Wenger confirms Arsenal will continue with 3-at-the-back next season

Arsenal had a phenomenal run at the end of the season after changing to the new formation of 3-at-the-back (or is it 5?) and won 9 of their last 10 games. Arsene Wenger is keen to carry on that momentum into next season, and promises to have all his players fit and ready on the opening day of the season.

He was asked on Arsenal.com if he intended to carry on with these tactics in the next campaign, and he replied: “Certainly, I will have the continuity in the system at the start and adapt as well, because the system has to be the system that reflects the best qualities of the individual players and is efficient as a whole.”

“Looking at the moment where I installed the system and the results, you would say yes it has a positive impact, basically because it gave us more defensive stability without diminishing us too much offensively. As well, maybe because every player was in a position where he could express his strengths. That has had, of course, a positive impact on the results.”

That statement obviously begs the question as to why he didn’t change to this system earlier when we were going through our awful run of form, but there is no point in talking about ‘what ifs’ after the event. We just have to hope that we can keep all our best players and carry on playing them in their best positions!

Where was the Italian defence today that caused problems to zidane as player. Real Madrid just raped juve! Buffon just retire

  2. yagoonersya says:

Allegri not good enough just dominating the weak Italian league.

    1. Quantic Dream says:

Real were simply outstanding..doesn’t make Allegri rubbish to lose in the final to the best team in the world.I’d still take him right now.

    2. Elliot says:

Not good enough? If reaching the champions league final, not losing a game and only conceding 3 goals is not good enough, I wonder what losing 10-2 on aggrigate and finishing 5th is like… oh wait

  3. McLovin says:

Isco now has the domestic title, cups and 3 CLs, but he hasn’t started many matches for Real.

One year left in contract, can we persuade him for new sdventures?

  4. yagoonersya says:

Madrid didn’t use three at the back today ! it’s all about quality not formation.. Arsenal always finish the season strongly under wenger

  5. yagoonersya says:

Benzema didn’t do anything today. Isco 10 times better than Ozil

  6. ArseOverTit says:

Didn’t get to watch the match but it seems RM were on fire.
UCLs back to back. They have an air of invincibility about them. 12 Champions Leagues is an incredible achievement.

Perhaps Wenger and AFC can groom Sudanese for the role after AS retires in 2076.

  7. yagoonersya says:

What Zidane can do Henry can do better! Barca and Madrid giving chance to their ex-players to manage .Arsenal only mistreating it’s legends.

  8. ramterta says:

penaldo is all what an all time great is.Even at 32 he hasn’t hang up his boots.he still miles above great players at their peak.Even henry at his peak wouldn’t match penaldo now

    1. Fatboy Gooney, Too Fat to track back. says:

He wants to play on until his 40 ?? maybe Wenger will sign him when his 35 and give him a 5 year contract + sick pay lol

      1. Twig says:

        Could work.
Ibrahimovic was bossing defenders at the ripe old age of 55 last season, lol

  9. onerutto says:

Hope Arsene watched this game today and has learned something. Bring us Osmane Dembele, Lacazette and that Isco guy better than Ozil

  10. i always say giroud is arsenal second best player but we don’t have the quality players to provide him with the kind of service he requires to shine we need prayers who can get behind the defence and put the ball in area where he can attack it

  11. Fatboy Gooney, Too Fat to track back. says:

Wenger to up his bid from £87million to £95million for Mbappe, when he could of signed this kid for £230,000 last year lol & lol again ?

    1. ArseOverTit says:

Does anyone seriously think AFC are gonna bid £87 million for 1 player?

Think there is more chance of Stans wig winning krufts!

  12. henry my foot can never coach a feeders team talkless of senior players, henry is not good coaching role just good in making mouth.

  13. ArseOverTit says:

So , I know many still think Wenger is a master tactician and stuff but why exactly did it take him 20 years to try 3 at the back?

Next thing you know he will have them practicing penalties;)

  14. Ronny says:

Modric and Kroos just bossed that midfield.
James Rodriguez not even on the bench, (he’s sold then, MU?)

    1. RSH says:

another player Arsenal should’ve fought for instead of begging for useless Ozil to stay. Unless were getting a world class front 3, Ozil is useless.

  15. Ronny says:

Wenger take note it’s expensive but real Madrids wiring business model ‘buy ready made full fledged quality’. Across every position as well.
    # buybigwinbig.

I’d love to bring bayern and real into the pl for one season and see how they’d fare.

  16. Janssen says:

3 at the back lost to 4 at the back. I wonder if that made Wenger think. We know how much he loves attacking football.

It will be interesting to see if us playing 3 at the back next season will keep yielding great results or if teams adjusting they way they play us will see us draw many games instead.

  17. john says:

I think it the right decision to stick with a3-4-3 formation but he needs to sign a quality centre half as Gabriel is not good enough and holding is still learning, i also sign a defensive midfielder as coquellin not that good, also a winger, attacking midfielder and a forward too
