Wenger insists both Ozil and Sanchez are happy at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger claimed that he believes both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are happy with Arsenal, talking during his pre-match press conference this morning.

The Frenchman was talking ahead of the weekend’s all-important tie against Manchester City, where a loss could leave them little chance of earning a spot for next season’s Champions League competition.

The questions today were mostly about the heavy speculation regarding possible departures from Arsenal this summer however, and on the subject of his key men Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, he insisted they are happy.

“I personally believe both of them want to stay and I hope the club will find an agreement with them,” said Wenger.

His statement is a contradiction on what we have seen in the Chileans actions and emotions shown on the pitch for club and country, and the player’s recent statement will be cause for concern.

Alexis said he wanted to stay in London, but with a team who are challenging for the title, which is currently being twisted to sound like he is in want of a move to Chelsea, but that may not be his wish.

The star may in fact be urging his fellow players and his club to put the work in that is needed to challenge next season, or at least show him that they are able to make the effort needed, to convince him to stay and help fight for the title next season.

Despite the manager’s claim that the players are happy, there is no sign that a new contract is set to be signed by the stars, although the manager himself is yet to extend his deal as of yet either.

Could we persuade Alexis and Ozil to stay on beyond the summer? Is Wenger lying or does he actually believe the pair are happy?

  1. Hahaha yeah right! This from the man who said Arsenal are in great shape after being thrashed 10-2!

He lives in a world of his own. No point in listening to his opinions anymore. They beat no resemblence to reality.

    1. reality is 10-2 to bayern
      i dont blame him

come on lads theres two for one on magic mushrooms at portobello market!

  2. They are not happy with the lack of winning that is for sure but was it true as well, and there most recent statements seem indicative of that is they like London and Arsenal.
When you think about both of them they are in there prime and superstars. They want to win and that window for them isn’t a long one. They would love to keep going with Arsenal but they want insurance that they will have a good end of a season likely snapping up a UCL spot. At this point maybe win the FA Cup as it would have a special meaning when you look at the teams left and it is also the only trophy left anyway.

But and more importantly the message is that some work needs to be done in the summer and the squad (not going to mention names) needs to be broken down and assessed in a cold way be it Wenger or somebody else. If the man in charge next season is provided a similar amount than last summer and sells some obvious candidates that could stir the pot to a big big amount and in good hands would be used to better the squad in key positions (3-4 positions that can be upgraded). Because when they come back them extending depends on the fact that the contend from start to finish and can go further than the predictable last 16 exit.

There is nothing like having 2 or 3 more players at there level coming into the squad in the summer, winners and leaders around the squad that would share the load with them but also make Arsenal obviously better and stronger going forward!

  3. Sorry to say about our manager but I believe very little what comes out of his mouth. Wenger, Ivan and Kroenke have always said big things and done little. Why did we leave Highbury for the Emirates? Need more than an unhappy Sanchez and uninterested Ozil to sell the top class talent line.

Emirates only puts more money in Kroenke and Wenger’s pockets, haven’t seen fans benefits yet.

Get ready for big speeches and promises about new players, competing for titles, and Arsenal being top top club.

what we’ll get is 17 year olds, retreads, and excuses about referees and better clubs willing to spend money.

It’s a downward spiral, cue the flushing toilet

  4. He also said we are in great shape!

  5. Yeah I won the lottery 6 times in the one week, I woke up to find my hair had all grown back, the man on the moon just got married and season have turned to the best beer ever tastedone. Like wenger I have took truth tabs.

  6. i actually dont muff dive, i muff swim
    what does that mean?

    u know your swimming pool…thats right….no water…just muffs

front stroke , doggy paddle (oi oi).

  7. We’re gonna have to just go for it, all the seasons of trying with the least effort possible so as to look good on the books as well as the table, needs to stop. Players need to start being held accountable. Why would they concentrate fully on being committed, if instead they can enjoy their millions whilst being young instead of having to wait til their thirties. I’m sick of seeing the same old s**t from Walcott Ramsey Giroud Gibbs Jenkinson Ospina etc etc, fire the lot of them. I believe Giroud and Gibbs have their uses, but we’re well past that stage, so we need to get them out now ..disinfect the club by bringing in worthy players for those places.

    1. I will admit Theo has his bad seasons but this season he is performing well, he is getting back and defending and he is being a goalscoring threat from the right, his biggest issue is consistency.

26 games and 15 goals for us so far this season while also improving his defensive play.

I do fear he will have a bad season next season and I will not hide that fact but can fans not accept when he is doing well? Do people have difficulty giving credit where credit is due?

  8. If Arsenal was to be rebuilding the squad and Wenger told to build it properly this time with the funds required to do so…

    Why not?

People say Wenger can not get a big name player but he got Alexis and Ozil while talking Cech into swapping the blue for the red and white, Xhaka has pointed to Wenger as the main reason he joined us as well.

Yes we have imploded recently but I honestly do feel we are missing just a couple players from competing at the top and not such a massive gap as recent results would indicate.

We need a leader. Not a Incredible Sulk part 2 or the invisible man… I once thought Alexis might make a good leader but now he is showing that he is too childish to lead.

I do feel Xhaka was bought with this in mind along with Mustafi, they both appear to be commanding players but they are not leaders we need currently, they could become that but not right now.

If we had a Adams right now then I do not believe Ramsey would be as inconsistent as he is, Adams wouldn’t have allowed it… Would Vieira as well? To be fair I think Alexis wouldn;t be acting like such a child if Adams or Vieira was in the squad, they would have pinned him up against a wall in a dark ally and scared him into growing up.

I do think we are good at the back apart from LB, they can be a fierce defense with good CM ahead of them and this is a team sport.

We have plenty of choice in CM but we are missing 1 who can be relied upon to link up with the attack from deep. The def side of CM we have Xhaka, Coquelin and ElNeny but it seems that Ramsey can’t work with any of them to a level we need and those 3 are not the most attack minded players so partnerships don’t always flourish. Ox might and I am hopeful about him and even if he does do well, Cazorla is not a spring chicken, we need to think about the depth of the squad still and need another link up CM.

Our attack is prob the worst area though, only really Alexis who we can rely on to be a threat in every game and to be a player who will fight for it. Theo is having his good season and I really hope he has developed consistency but he isn’t the type of attacker to run the ball past people and as such able to drag the game forward like Alexis can. I think Theo can be acceptable though if we had another attacker who will drag the game forward, someone who will run at players and get past them to make something happen while also having the spirit to put their foot in and make a tackle to help the team defend.

Minimum transfers that will make me content (assuming we keep Ozil and Alexis)
    LB, 2xCM, 2xAttackers
    5 players.

Not bargain buys either, they have to be of the quality we need NOW with enough time in the tank to last a few years. Lacazette would be 1 of the 2 attackers for example. Rumors are that Wenger was desperate to convince Bakayoko to join and that is promising, Wenger after a player of that quality. That is what we need now.

More so if we want to keep any hope of keeping Alexis…

  9. The only possible reason for Sanchez and Ozil remaining at Arsenal next season, would be to run down their contracts and leave for free.
In that way they can claim a big wage demand at their next destination.

  10. Wenger is living in a little world of his own if he thinks Ozil and Sanchez are Happy at Arsenal.
The next thing he will come out with is the FAN’S are Happy with the way things are at Arsenal.
Wenger needs to go now not next week not the end of the season but right now. All he is doing by staying is disrupting the Players we have all see it over the years Managers hang on and get bad results game after game then a New Manager comes in and stops the Rot. This is what Arsenal need right now New Blood.
