Wenger on why he is confident of beating Man City

Arsenal travel up to Manchester to face a Man City side that beat the Gunners 6-3 on their last visit, but Arsene Wenger doesn’t believe that was a fair result, and thinks that we can get a completely opposite result tomorrow. “It was not at all a reflection of the game,” said Wenger on Arsenal.com. “If you look at the chances on both sides. They scored some of the goals in the last 20 minutes, when we were down to 10 men and had to go forward. We missed chances over there.

“Every game is different though. If you play 10 times against the same team, 10 times it will be different. So let’s just focus on the performance of the day.”

“How do we get it right? By defending well as a team, by getting the balance right in the structure of the team from the start, and by putting the effort in when you lose the ball to help each other,” he said.

“We played well against Man City this season and of course we want to play well again. It is vital for us get a win against a big rival and we have a chance to show that we are ready to do that. I’m confident that we can do it.”

Wenger is aware that Arsenal are struggling defensively this season, but he believes that we have one of our best strike forces ever assembled in his reign. “We have never had so many forwards of that quality together,” he remarked. “We have plenty of options and plenty of pace in the squad as well. It is about how we use that in order to get the right level of confidence in the side.

“To have that right is to get the right balance between going forward, being creative, creating goal chances and also stopping the opponent from scoring.

“The team is not only made of strikers, the team is made of a balance between strikers, midfielders and defenders and that’s what you want to get right until the end of the season.”

I wish I could share Wenger’s confidence, but Le Prof’s record away at Top Four teams has been appalling in recent years. If we CAN pull it off I, for one, will be ecstatic!

    1. I have the same feeling Aguero just back from long injury Yaya is in Africa Nazri is injured and we have nearly all our offensive players back and fit,
I think it’s time for Pablo Zabeleta to get the Red card his been asking for it a while now and hope the Ref brings his balls.

P.S Muff who,s the little boy your talking about? I thought you was married.

    2. My odds are 33/33/33. Maybe 34/35/31. With Wenger in charge i will never bet my money on Arsenal against top clubs. At best a tie. I have a good feeling about this match as well though, so lets hope i’m wrong!

  1. maybe he’s confident because its not an early kickoff on a Saturday, it won’t be a massacre like last time.

    1. We get thrashed against big teams because of the way Wenger approaches such games – he doesnt show respect at all. We gotta aknowledge that Man City are a good team (probably better than us) and are playing at their own backyard, we gotta stay disciplined defensively and absorb their pressure like we did at Liverpool because they’re obviously gonna come at us from the 1st second. If we keep throwing numbers forward like we always do against big teams, then we are gonna get caught on counterattacks and get our asses kicked….as usual.

  2. It 1st defend on who he picks in his starting XI, and then tactics, some key decisions include, both Ospina and coquelin keeping their places. And then there’s Bellerin over Chambers.

  3. szsny
    chambers mert kosc gibbs
    ramsey le coq
    walcott ozil sanchez
    giroud
this is the team to do the job. and yes, coquelin before flamini because flamini just claps and shouts. when the actual tackling is needed we all know we cant count on him plus arsenal players arent motivated by your clapping and shouting, but by you showing them the way like Alexis is doing and coquelin is currently excelling with the flying tackles, headers and interceptions. ozil over carzola because of walcott and sanchez, to give them a chance to run in behind or run in for counter attacks. giroud for hold up play to free up walcott and sanchez again. ramsey to sit back and support le coq. le coq to specially mark kinta kunte aguero. this will guarantee at least a point if not three.

  4. please wenger stick with cazorla
    coq as dm
    stick with ospina

we looked good last game, dont let your brain go all wacky races on us.

  5. @tomiwa, Ospina should keep his place in my opinion. Did he did anything wrong to be dropped?? Szczesny is off mood, and Bellerin too should start ahead of chambers because he’s faster and a better R B in my opinion. I think chambers is more sweeted to CB.

  6. Wenger shld start spending some money

even City do not give a shit about FFP and sign world class Bony

  7. Well we have the best squad we have had available all season

    Not in squad for match.
    Debuchy
    Welbeck
    Wilshere
    Gnabry
    diaby
    Arteta

Welbeck and Gnabry are just 2 weeks away

So with the likes of Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez, Giroud, Chambers, Bellerin, Mertsacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Monreal, Rosicky, Oxlade, Ramsey, Walcott, Campbell, Ospina, Szczesny we should have a good chance of Winning

    I hope we go for:
    ……………………….Ospina
    Gibbs…..Mertsacker…Koscielny…Bellerin
    ……………………..Coquelin
    Sanchez……..Ozil…..Cazorla………Walcott
    ………………………..Giroud

    1. Gnabry needs to go on loan. I don’t think he’ll get many games in the first team. Many teams will be scrambling to get him.

    2. Do you copy your lineups from a mirror or something? :-/

What are Bellerin and Walcott doing on the right wing? :-/

      ……………………….Ospina
      Bellerin…..Mertsacker…Koscielny…Gibbs
      ……………………..Coquelin
      Walcott……..Ozil…..Cazorla………Sanchez
      ………………………..Giroud

        1. So where do you think Ozil should go, on the wing?
He looks stronger than last season, is a world class player who simply needs fast runners (who can hopefully finish) around him and he can pull that wonder pass out of the bag at any time, of course he should play.

    3. Whilst that probably is our strongest first team 11 (that we have available at the moment), Ozil and Walcott aren’t match fit and I doubt they will start. Based on form and team cohesion, Rosicky should be next to cazorla and the Ox on the right.

  8. Why do I get the feeling Giroud will be dropped for Ozil tomorrow? I think the team that finished the game against Stoke will be the team to start against City.

    1. we’re going to have to absorb a fair amount of pressure and imo giroud offers an outlet as he keeps possession better in the middle and attacking third of the pitch, unless we’re looking to play counter attacking football I think he’ll start

  9. Im one of the first to jump on AW every time he gets it wrong. ( every time we play a big team). This season feels a bit different. Tho definitely not the finished article, it feels we are really two quality players away from contending for the title.
As a club we have secured ourselves financially as one of Europe’s elite, only to be let down by on field performances.
I have had enough of saying maybe next year but I really believe next season we will have a squad to challenge on all fronts. Plus AW only has 2 years left on his contract…

  10. You can shoot a nuclear bomb at Wenger and he would come out and claim something like , i am confident that i will survive this.

  11. Ospina
    Debuchy Mertesacker Koscielny Monreal
    Flamini Arteta
    Rosicky Cazorla – Podolski
    Giroud

    Szczesney
Jenkinson (Insert CB) (Insert CB) Gibbs
    Coquelin* Ramsey
    Walcott Ozil Alexis
    Welbeck

    Martinez
    Bellerin Chambers Hayden Ottewill
    Bielik Zelalem
    Gnabry Crowley Chamberlain
    Akpom

That’s not in order of preference but age. 3 generation’s worth. It’s a solid mix of players, but it’s not title challenging… we’d need upgrades here and there.

Van Dijk & Schar as our next pairing at the back?
*I’d stick with Coq for the remainder of the season, because realistically we aren’t getting a quality DM in January. If he continues to impress up until the summer then great, if not then Schneiderlin’s a must.

  12. Off-topic

Come on Qpr, Sunderland, Swansea city and Aston Villa. Make this an awesome weekend for us 😉

    Sunderland mash the Spuds
    QPR shovel out the Manure
    Swansea beatski the Chelski
    Villa beat the Liverfools

    Then obviously tomorrow
    Arsenal flush the Shitty.

    COYG

  13. I hope our Gunners are feeling just as confident as you people are because I’m not. But I believe if they put their minds into it, we can do it.

  14. NO love for Rosicky to keep his place? I think he’s played great these last few games, he’s certainly in consideration for a starting place at the moment.
