West Ham’s Payet keen on Arsenal move

With January soon approaching it means that the transfer window will once again open up for teams across Europe. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Arsene Wenger has already began thinking about possible options and moves he may want to do in the market, but as with many previous January transfer windows, I’m personally not expecting much movement at the Emirates.

We’ve heard plenty of rumours surrounding the possible interest in Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler and supposedly the winger-turner striker would be very keen on coming to the Premier League with Arsenal. However now it’s a different player who may be issuing a ‘come and get me’ plea to Arsene Wenger, with West Ham’s Dimitri Payet speaking to the media about Arsenal today.

Payet reportedly told French outlet RMC “I read that Wenger considered me as the missing piece of Arsenal’s play, but he said nothing to me [laughs].”

“When you see them play, as a ball playing footballer, one could only enjoy oneself playing in this team. They are candidates for the title every year.”

Payet has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past and there were a few rumours flying around last summer after the winger had a fantastic debut season in the Premier League. This season he hasn’t quite had his same spell of form, much like his team West Ham who are struggling in the league since the move to their new stadium. Payet is supposedly now considering whether his future still lies with the Hammers after a number of top European clubs have reportedly shown interest in his availability.

Personally as good as Payet was last season and although he’s shown glimpses of the same promise this campaign, I don’t think he would be the best fit for Arsenal. Much like the Draxler situation, Arsenal already have a number of wingers and midfielders on the books and I don’t think Wenger really needs to bring in any more additions in this area. Payet also isn’t getting any younger and with just one good season in the Premier League it may be a big gamble for Arsene Wenger to make. West Ham are also in no real need to sell the player either and so could most likely demand big money if that’s what they desire. Having Payet amongst the squad would of course strengthen the side for sure, but is he really the right man to recruit during a transfer window where we need to address our top concerns and main priorities?

It was a comment from Payet that was sure to get plenty of media attention, but I don’t think there’s anything more to the rumour I’m afraid.

  1. I agree. With Perez waiting for opportunities on the bench and Welbeck close to returning it will be confusing to add another attacking to the squad. Unless he was world class, I wouldn’t want to disrupt player morale. We just need to little change of system. Maybe a 4 4 2? Wenger already spoke of how this formation covers most ground on the pitch and would suit our pass and move ball play. We need ideas when we are playing top teams. Wenger needs to do serious thinking and start winning PL games. COYG

  2. “They are candidates for the title every year.”

We are not title contenders, we are title pretenders! 9 points behind and we aren’t halfway through. Until something drastic happens to Chelsea, this season is done and dusted.

  3. Victor Lindelöf from Benfica anyone? Mertesacker is done, Koscielny turned 31, Holding is very inexperienced and Gabriel.. well he’s a squad player really.

  4. “Much like the Draxler situation, Arsenal already have a number of wingers and midfielders on the books and I don’t think Wenger really needs to bring in any more additions in this area”

But he’s arguably better than any of the midfielders we have. He’ll also help us with dead balls. However, considering we have Welbeck and Perez, we might not really him.

  5. fellow Gooners fans. after seeing this video my heart goes to ALL THOSE LIKE THEM WHO SUFFERED SO MUCH FOR OUR BELOVED TEAM

IT IS TURE. THE PAIN OF 12 YEARS OF SUFFERING, SEEING SAME FALLS AT THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON AND NOTHING CHANGES turn us against each other.
i do stick to my choice. let’s get DRAXLER as he’s 23 years old and can be converted to a RVP. Even though , PAYET is a good player he’s in his 30 and we need to look for the long term. OX and THeo has not improved as we expected after many years ( let alone the injuries ) so why not spending 25 millions on DRAXLER. ( he addmited , they mistake to go to Wolsgburg was due to his previous team need of financial issues not cos he wanted to be in second tier team ). He can cover Alexis place when need of rest of playing him behind as the pace is shocking also he’s a good header of the ball. Forget about he’s not scored enough lately ( why would you when the team is so average if anyone has watched a game ). this will show bit of ambition to fight for the second part of the EPL and he can add some pace to UCL when Bayer comes. Just my views

  6. Beloved arsenal fans, Please let’s unite and find the solutin to our TEAM DECLINED. we do not want to spend 20 plus years without trophy from the likes of POOL or SPUDS.

we got the stadium, we got ” the financial resources ” , we got one of the most LOYAL fan base. what we need? what can be do to be heard? we are turning our backs into each others. sos

CHANGE IS NEEDED IN MY PERSONAL OPINION. I had one of the saddest weeks since the Everton lost but The NO SHOW against SHITY is killing me deep down. we can bounce back ” apparently easy games ” but when it comes to the big games we always FAULTER.

  7. I would take Payet in a heartbeat! In terms of quantity, we have lots of midfielders, and attackers. In terms of quality, not so much. Ozil has been poor for most of the season, so Payet would be a great option, but Wenger will never bench Ozil. Maybe they could play together?

West Ham won’t sell Payet on the cheap, and given his age, maybe not the greatest investment. Although I would still take him. I think Draxler is a more realistic option. Squad player Welbeck will be like a new signing anyway, so that’s our January sorted then! Haha

  8. Thinking about why Monreal is so poor this season compared to his consistent best last season. I think it might have something to do with the speculation we had about Rodriguez, fans wanted him and the rumours sounded genuine. When all the talk was on Arsenal needing a striker, Henry agreed, and Giroud took that very badly. I think similar might have happened with Monreal, he’ll be listening to people say we need someone with more pace and is better attacking than he, sort of what we have on right wing, also his age. It must have gotten to him, he’s hurt our chances quite a bit this season.

  9. Is it any wonder we have been linked with players who have something to do with the wings?

Who do we have for the left?
    Ox the inconsistent?
Iwobi running like a headless chicken?
Theo plays his best on the right
Campbell hasn’t been shown the trust and loaned out AGAIN.
Perez could do with a chance but he looks best on the right and Theo is better ATM there.

I am now at the point where I want to see Willock play until Welbroke is fixed.

  10. Arsenal would secretly ask his price valuation and then run away when they realise how he would cost. Stan and the board don’t really care about the club winning trophies, that’s the first mental block, passed down to Wenger, who left his tactical onus in the early 2000s and then sadly to some players.

  11. I think a team, any team, should continuously look to improve it’s squad. Having said that, in our case, I don’t think signing any player will make a difference.

We need to fix our mental problems before thinking the signing of a new player will make a big difference.

Simeone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Let the next manager spend the money on players he rates.)
