There was obviously a fair amount of disappointment for Arsenal fans at the weekend, as we failed to beat or even score against the Premier League strugglers Middlesborough after putting six past Ludogorets Razgrad without reply in midweek.
As all the weekend action unfolded, however, there were plenty of other things for us Gooners to smile about, with EPL rivals Man City and Tottenham also failing to win their own games and punish us. The biggest for me though, was the humiliating and heavy defeat that Chelsea inflicted on Manchester United and their former manager Jose Mourinho.
We all know that our boss and the United boss do not like each other so Wengger must have taken pleasure in his rival’s suffering, as did I and every other Arsenal fan. But as well as enjoying United’s beating, does it mean much to Arsenal and Wenger?
I would have to say yes, because even at this early stage of the season it looks like Mourinho and United will not be the force that a lot of football pundits thought they would be. There are serious questions being asked about his negative tactics as well as the poor performances of big players like Pogba and Ibrahimovic.
They may well find some form as the season wears on but right now it looks like that will be too late for a title challenge. And hopefully United continue to struggle for a while because they are the first team Arsenal play after the next international break.
Inflict another Chelsea style defeat on them in a few weeks and not only will Arsenal be looking good for our own title challenge, we will probably have killed off Mourinho and United’s or do you think it is too soon to right them off?
