What should be Arsenal starting XI at Everton and why?

With some Arsenal players still not looking quite ready after the World Cup finals this summer, the three German Gunners still to be included in a squad after an extended summer holiday and a slightly worrying injury list, Arsene Wenger is probably already looking forwards to the two week international break in order for him to get his team ready for the rest of the season.

But the next five days sees Arsenal face two games that could potentially have a huge effect on our season. We definitely don’t need another heavy away defeat like we got at Goodison Park last season, because it could have long term effects on team morale. And we simply cannot afford, in more ways than one, to not beat Besiktas on Wednesday.

So with both games in mind, what would be you starting line-up for Everton later and the reasons behind your pick. Here is mine, with the assumption that Mesut Ozil will not be in the squad as he was not training with the other Arsenal players yesterday, at least I did not see him on the pictures.

Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
Flamini, Ramsey
Alexis, Wilshere, Podolski

I have dropped Cazorla for Podolski because the Spaniard has been off the pace and Podolski should be fresh and will also give Monreal more protection. Chambers has done well but I think we should get our first choice defensive pairing going again as soon as possible. And putting Wilshere in the number 10 role should giove us more bite in midfield as well, because we will be put under pressure from Everton. Hopefully Sanogo is fit, because Giroud was frankly awful in Turkey. What do you think, Gooners?

      Perfect against everton!!

      1. ozy says:

i would go for this line up if BFG is fully fit:

but i don’t think wenger will start Cambpell, and i hope he will at least play Sanchez in the middle

        1. karansagar says:

          FLAMINI … RAMSEY

    2. ArnSam says:

I would replace flamini with chambers and then wilshere with Carzola since that’s were Carzola is best suited.

    3. Budd says:

Diaby is in the squad going to Goodison. Who knows …

    1. Wazzzimbo says:

I would rather the 3 Germans make substitute appearances.

      Debuchy – Chambers – Koscielny – Monreal
      Flamini – Ramsey
      Chamberlain – Rosicky – Campbell

Campbell is a hard worker offensively and defensively and will aid Monreal a lot more than Santi, having said that Nacho looks much better physically this season.

      1. Dee@ease says:

Good team Rosicky to provide that energy we need in midfield

        1. Wazzzimbo says:

Precisely, and in the process Santi can have a rest

  3. georgie b says:

I was wondering also why in God’s name isn’t Podolski playing. He is our best finisher.

  4. gmv8 says:

Debuchy Merteacker Koscielny Monreal (Wish Chambers could play left back)
    Ramsey Flamini
    Campbell Ox Ozil/Podolski

  5. Greg says:

Joel campbell should be in the starting lineup coyg!

  6. Greg says:

“Little mozart” should also start, his creativity and experience will be a big plus on the field for us!

  7. Greg says:

I must say i am impressed with calum chambers he has really stepped up!

  8. CrimsonTide12 says:

My only change to your line-up would be to get Campbell in there for LP. He played well with Sonogo against Benfica. Of course he also had a goal of great quality in that fixture. If Sonogo is not fit, then push Campbell up front and put Ox in where you have LP. Giroud should be benched for his embarrassing effort on Tuesday.

  9. mohawk says:

    1. To avoid over-use of players and to get some fresh legs on the pitch some changes MUST be made. Should not keep the same lineup as the recent games.

    2. Some players are easier to decide. Sczez. Monreal, Debuch, Kos, and Mert (if fit).
Flamini is an easy pick with Arteta out. Ramsey cannot play Wednesday so he will be used.
That is 7 out of the 11.

Giroud, Alexis, Cazorla, Wilshere have all been used recently so at least 2 or 3 of these players should sit out.

They should be replaced by the any of the remaining attackers with fresher legs – Ox, Rosicky, Campbell, Ozil, Poldi, Sanogo are all candidates.

Solid starters = Sczes. Debuch, Mert, Kos, Monreal
    Flamini, Ramsey

My optional front = Ox, Rosicky, Ozil

But I can see many other options also.

  10. Dee@ease says:

The Everton game will be a really good gauge of where we stand in terms of this season

  11. Toni balle says:

Umm, Ozil was pictured training on the Arsenal website. IF any German is likely to start, it’s him.

    1. Twig says:

Just because a player is training doesn’t mean he’ll play, duh

  12. mesuts eyes says:

    Debuch Mert Kos Monreal
    Rambo Wilshere
    Sanchez Ozil Chambo

Its a very attacking lineup, but I’d bring on Flamini early into the second half if we can get the lead. I also really think that Chambo has deserved the start over Santi. Give Giroud 65 minutes, if he can’t affect the game, then bring on Joel.

  13. ronniec says:

Isn’t Poldi left out of the squad against Everton?
    He is leaving.

    1. ChristopherHWinters says:

All three Germans might be included. Plus he is also in the squad for Besiktas! Check before you comment.

  14. Don King says:

I’m going to punch the person next to me if I see Giroud in the starting line up tomorrow.

    1. Prince says:

Where are you going to watch the game? I wanna make sure that not to sit beside you. Its Wenger dude, of course Giroud will start.

  15. Chima says:

Ozil is there in the pictures. Check picture number 16/18…

  16. Twig says:

    I’ll go for:

    Reus Rosicky Alexis
    Ramsey Carvalho
    Nacho Kosc Merts Deb

We need to get Reus playing with his mentor ASAP. Rosicky will also offer us more energy than either Ozil or Santi. Ahhh… Good morning guys!

  17. Adhi_gunner says:

With Giroud’s aweful finishing, and sanogo not the final product, i EXPECT AND WANT PODOLSKI to start. He has a hammer of a left foot, and the one chance he gets in the game, expect him to score.

    1. almostawinner says:

pod’s better as a power sub (he’s also not good as CF)
      but, giroud shouldnt start.
in general, i think , rather than sticking with players, wenger should reward those that produce and bench those that have bad games.
that will encourage competition and performance.
giroud stank: so he shouldnt start.
give sanchez a chance at CF

  18. Adhi_gunner says:

    Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
    Flamini, Ramsey
    Oxlade, Cazorla, Podolski

I no wenger wont choose 3 out of the above lineup. wilshere,giroud/sanogo WHY -_-

  19. B.R.94 says:

    Second half:
    Giroud in , wilshere out

  20. kanaka says:

    Deb – Kos – Per – Mon
    Calum – Rambo
    Alexis – Ozil – Campbell/Ox

  21. Wilshegz says:

Why is everyone calling Monreal? Really? Did you all forget what happened the last time Monreal faced Lukaku?

    A team with NO weakpoint.

  22. Enygma says:

If there is anyone who should have come back early for pre season training,it should have been Podolski. He is fighting for a starting berth and did not do much in Brazil. But he was also on holiday for four weeks!

  23. lupe says:

    debuchy mertasacker koscielny monreal
    flamini ramsey
    campbell cazorla chamberlain
speed and creativity. Campbell would want to prove himself
