VAR decision Arsenal v Man Utd

Where does Arsenal stand in the league table without VAR?

Arsenal enter the international break second in the league table behind unbeaten Manchester City, who have won every league game since the start of the term. However, the standings could look very different if VAR had not been introduced into the Premier League.

The technology has become a major part of the sport over the past decade, changing the way important decisions are made during matches. Without VAR, numerous decisions would have been left to the officials on the pitch, potentially producing different outcomes across the league.

VAR has influenced the league table

Beyond the time spent checking and cross-checking footage, VAR has played a significant role in shaping the Premier League standings since its introduction. Decisions involving goals, penalties and other key incidents have all had the potential to affect the number of points teams collect.

Arsenal have benefited from VAR decisions at times, but they have also found themselves on the wrong end of some calls. The Gunners have experienced the impact of the technology from both sides, with controversial decisions affecting their matches during the campaign.

The difference becomes particularly notable when looking at where Arsenal could have been without VAR. Give Me Sport has revealed that the Premier League table this term would have been significantly different without the technology, with Arsenal moving into first place.

VAR

Arsenal would have led the table

According to the alternative standings, Arsenal would have been top and would have moved one place above their current position. That would represent a change from the current table, where Manchester City sit above them.

Brentford would have occupied second place in the alternative table after accumulating two more points than they currently have. Their position would therefore have changed significantly if the decisions affected by VAR had gone differently.

City, meanwhile, would have dropped to third place in the alternative standings. The champions would have four fewer points than they have now, showing how much the technology can influence the league table over the course of a season.

The alternative standings highlight the potential impact of individual decisions and how they can change the positions of several clubs. Arsenal’s position in particular would have been dramatically different, with the Gunners sitting at the top of the Premier League rather than second.

    1. Jax,

With it being the International break, I fear we’re going to get quite a lot of scraping the barrel for story’s in the next three weeks. 🤦‍♂️

      1. Derek, at least nothing more today on Vinicius, Alverez, or the BHA disaster. And of course, it’s free, which isn’t the same as some Arsenal blogs.

          1. Derek, it keeps getting better, but if (and when) we next lose, there’ll be a dozen Are Arsenal In Danger Of Relegation type stories.

        1. And when we win a game we will get the , why can’t we win the quadruple
We already had the we can not lose a game and can get the record amount of pointsb

  1. This 3 week international break was the most suitable time for the Panel to give whatever verdict on City’s 130 charges.
How many PMs did we welcome and see off since the commencement of the charges

    1. Amba,

What you say has merit. But what you forget is, we’re talking about Manchester City here. There clearly being treated differently to the Nottingham Forests and Everton’s of this world.

Now I know that people will say with the amount of charges that City face it will take longer, and yes that might be the case. But I can’t help thinking had it been the two aforementioned teams been in the same position, a decision would have been made by now.

I’m convinced that it won’t be settled until both party’s agree on the decided punishment. You just know that if City get a punishment they don’t agree with, then out will come their lawyers, and appeal after appeal will follow.

I’m curious as to what their punishment will be, and if I were Nottingham Forest and Everton, I’d have my lawyers ready to sue the authority’s, if city’s punishment is more lenient than theirs was for a lesser breaking of the rules.

      1. DEREK,
What a coincidence it was! Me raising an instinctive point with regard to City’s charges and the official story that followed later

          1. Jax,
i was really thrilled when i heard the story though physically unwell for sometime; though unrelated my next take on is Cas’ verdict on Afcon title. I believe Cas will decide to the worthy winner Senegal

          1. DEREK,
Whisper it quietly for I’ve close men who work in Abu Dhabi where City’s owners are lest my friends should lose their everything.
Are you ready for today’s Chelsea v Arsenal Women? BBC today has good story about our team and why the goal drought has gone long; also Sky

            1. Amba,

Yes I’ve read the article regards the women. and as for you’re secret Abu Dhabi connections, you’re secret is safe with me. 🤫😉

  2. amba, it’s a different “Panel”. The one you’re looking for is the Independent Commission, which seems to be stuck in some sort of legal wrangle with City.

    1. Yeah Jax you’re correct they now call the new no end product entity the Independent Commission. Thanks as you’re well acquainted with these structures as part of your libel career iirc.
As DEREK also wondered where is the beef? Everton TWICE, Forest and Chelsea got various punishments in this period. I can’t be convinced by the complexities of the charges for the delay. There must be something else.

    2. the previous one was an Independent Commission and this one which found City guilty is an Independent Panel.

  3. I would advise the bloke in Portugal who hacked a computer and sparked the investigations into Manchester City doesn’t visit this country anytime soon.

He’ll be as welcome as Christmas is, for Turkey’s.😂🤣

    1. Derek, “the bloke”, Rui Pinto, yesterday said on X:
A historic decision for English football, one that crowns the work I carried out through Football Leaks. Today, we all know that, through structural manipulation and financial maneuvers, Manchester City did not merely get around the rules; they turned them into a mere formality, challenging any attempt to preserve the integrity of the competition,” he wrote. “This meticulously orchestrated fraud will finally be subject to punishment, and the impact will not be merely turbulent, but truly devastating for the ‘Cityzens’. Ironically, I cannot help but remember Pep Guardiola’s words at his first press conference as City manager: ‘Fasten your seatbelts’.
      Great Stuff.

  4. DEREK Jax, why have you overlooked the role of the German newspaper Der Spiegel? They’re amongst the first whistle blowers.
The famous Stoke City manager today says on BBC he’s also looking forward to getting one trophy for his minnows Stoke which unknowingly was given to the big spending City

    1. amba, Der Spiegel published Rui Pinto’s revelations from his website, Football Leaks, where he published hacked documents from Manchester City’, so I give him the most credit.
