Which Arsenal star will shine brightest until summer?

I wrote an article not too long ago about which Arsenal players would be our second best performer of the season, assuming that our Chile international Alexis Sanchez was absolutely nailed on for the award at the end of the season. Since then, however, Alexis has gone off the boil a bit while a number of his team mates have been grabbing the headlines.

I still think that our summer signing will get the vote because it is his first season as well as what he has achieved in it. But if soeone like Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil or Aaron Ramsey can put in an outstanding couple of months, you never know. But which of these Gunners is likely to be the brightest star between now and the summer?

I think the Welsh midfielder has left it a bit too late and a lot of what Ramsey does goes a bit unappreciated as it is not as eye catching as the more attacking side of the game. We don´t want Ramsey to be chasing goals all the time either, but if he can find the scoring form of last season and keep doing his defensive duties, Rambo could be the most important player for us in the next two months.

Both Cazorla and Ozil do catch the eye and will hopefully continue their excellent form. Either one could push Alexis close but they would need to add more goals and assists on a regular basis I think.

The one player that I feel is most likely to beat Alexis to the award is Giroud. The boy is on fire and scored another goal for France last night to emphasise just how good form he is in right now. If he keeps that up for the Gunners the Frenchman could well end up our top scorer and after missing a massive chunk of the season, that would be remarkable.

It is the quality of his goals as well as the quantity though, and his strike against West Ham that just got the goal of the month award is becoming the norm for Giroud rather than a rarity.

But can anyone really stop Alexis being Arsenal´s player of the season?

    Hey hey hey Girouuuud

    The most underrated ST.
Love for him to record his 1st hattrick against Liverpool…

  3. Last season it was a case of ‘if Ramsey and Theo hadn’t got injured, we would’ve won the title’.

This season it’s a case of ‘If Koscielny wasn’t injured and Coquelin had been there since the start, who knows where we’d be…’. Not to mention Giroud and Özil being out for months. Chelsea can’t really say the same about any of their players, they haven’t had the long term injuries we have, and if they did, I don’t think they’d be cruising to the title. In November, we didn’t look anywhere near Chelsea. Now, I think we have just as good a starting 11 as they do. It will be a very interesting game at the Emirates in a few weeks. If José doesn’t come scared like last season and park the bus again that is. But of course he will.. We all know he will!

Attacking-wise we haven’t scored as many as Chelsea, but their main striker wasn’t out for months with a broken leg.. So I don’t think there’s a big issue there. Defensively, we’ve conceded more too. I’m still not happy with Mertesacker, but now we at least have Gabriel who can hopefully nudge him out. Next season, we’ll have Koscielny 100% fit again, so that should further strengthen us. Not to mention the solidity Coquelin has brought us, having him for the whole season will make a big difference. Not entirely convinced our defensive problems have been solved, but there’s been a big improvement.

Coquelin will stay in the team, no doubt about that. But what if he gets injured? We need to buy another DM in the summer. After that, I think we have a squad that can win the title. Any more quality signings on top of that and we are in a really strong position to go and win it.
