Which forward should Arsenal be concentrating on this window?

Arsenal have already moved to bring in Alexandre Lacazette this summer, but are supposedly eyeing an attacking player who can play off the striker.

Alexis Sanchez is heavily expected to leave the club in the coming weeks, with Paris Saint-Germain looking his most likely destination at present. His exit will leave us shy of top attacking options, and a replacement is being lined up at present.

Thomas Lemar of AS Monaco appears to be Arsene Wenger’s first choice to take Alexis place in the squad, after a thoroughly impressive season with the French champions, but the £55 Million asking price may prove a stumbling block.

Riyad Mahrez appears to be awaiting Arsenal to complete their move to sign him, although the club appear to be keeping him as back-up should they fail to bring in the above. The Algerian was amazing in helping Leicester City to win the Premier League in 2016, but was inconsistent in the following term.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Arsenal is Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio. The young Spaniard earned a more regular role in his current side’s first team last term after a number of impressive displays, but could be tempted to switch with the guarantee of first-team football throughout the campaign, with competition for places at Real very strong.

We do of course have our own options already in the squad who could well be ready to take up a first-team role alongside Mesut Ozil in the starting line-up.

Two players who are linked with exits that would be happy to take over from the Chilean in a first-team capacity are Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The duo are both linked with the exit door at present, with West Ham, and Chelsea and Liverpool interested respectively, but both enjoyed what would have to be considered their best seasons in the previous campaign.

Theo scored an impressive 19 goals in all competitions, his best return in his senior career, and now would be a strange time to quit on his progress, after years of patience on his potential.

The Ox also enjoyed his best term, impressing largely in many outings in various positions, but I’m not sure his best play is seen when is placed behind the striker, and looks much more competent playing as a wing-back or central midfielder.

Lucas Perez is another highly expected to leave, but impressed on a number of outings last term, and was unfairly left to stew with very limited outings, and I for one would liked to have seen more of him in an Arsenal shirt.

If/When Alexis Sanchez leaves, which player would be best to replace him in the squad?

  • Thomas Lemar (62%, 306 Votes)
  • Riyad Mahrez (16%, 77 Votes)
  • Marco Asensio (12%, 61 Votes)
  • Lucas Perez (7%, 34 Votes)
  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (3%, 13 Votes)
  • Theo Walcott (1%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 494

Alex Iwobi will be staying with the squad this term, and won’t be included in the poll, but he would be an exciting option to take over from Sanchez in a first-team capacity also.

  1. Same old same old. Arsenal just can’t get deals done anymore it a shambles. We track 2 players all summer from Monaco and of course get none of them. Lamar and mbepe I’m talking about. Man City want 2 of there players and guess what they get them both. I’m fed up of us pissing around over a few million quid as Wenger always does. Please God just get a couple deals done. The defence is still stumbling we need a tough no nonsense centre back. Van Djik would be nice but we would bid £45 million when they want more. The hole mbepe thing was to get fans believing……… REMEMBER Suarez???? Guys we are miles away from winning any title why do some of you guys believe in Wenger so much???? It’s a fight for top 4 at very best next season.

  2. Nice and up to date Article, with the latest transfer gossip ?
Well, apart from Sanchez demanding £500,000 a week from PSG, it sounds as if the little square head LEGO man is still trying to force the move to City. ?

Oh and Leicester City have given a deadline for the sale of Mahrez. Interested clubs have until the start of the new season to cough up £40 million or forever STFU! ??

    1. I saw a crazy figure somewhere of £650,000 per week

Alexis seems to be another Ashley Cole or Nasri. His dream is to play Champions League my A*** lol

  3. I still think Mahrez will do a good job. He is experienced enough to give us some goals and assists.

    1. Asenso is far better than Lemar. I am a fan of league1, I had an opportunity to watch about 90% of Monaco played matches in 2016/17, Lemar is not such we think, he is average.

Mark my world. I will go for Asenso or Mahrez all the day.

      1. Nice spot mate. Asensio is my pick also but no way real are selling him that guy is good and for the future for sure

  4. We will never get the Madrid player real talent and big future if Madrid let go prop be buy back clause same script with arsenal please get us a big name and if Sanchez goes haha lego man den we need a big name we need lift mertens of Napoli would do thanks swap for Sanchez he gets champions football we get him out country

    1. Arsenal should consentrate on there midfield before even considering a forward! Our midfield is like butter even with alexis in the team we can’t make 4th bcoz xhaka is the new Arteta and Ramsey is the new wilshere while arsenal fans have been waiting for the new viera and gilberto! When u go a whole season unbeaten in pretty sure that’s the team u try to emulate not the trophyless midfield that made Ross Barkley look world class! Wake up wenger this is the prem not the Dutch league! we need big mobile imposing beasts in midfield and up top not lemar or mahrez but a mane type let’s learn from the Chelsea beat down for once

      1. I agree with you, we have more serious issues in our midfield than is talked about all players there are average, we need a decent addition and may be offload one because the problem is quality not quantity

  5. “Theo scored an impressive 19 goals in all competitions, his best return in his senior career”

This is not factual. Walcott’s best season was in 2012/2013 when he scored 21 goals in all competitions.

  6. I’m sorry to say it but the whole club is rotten to its core

Everything is tapered to making money, every season we are given promises remember

We can but anyone in the world, or there’s 200m kitty boll£&#
    RVP won’t be sold
    Nasri won’t be sold

We cannot blame wenger, Gazadis or Kronkie we have to blame everyone and everything
That includes the fans, every year they spin a line and fans go doh ok let’s buy tickets let’s buy a shirt because they will spend now.

This years lie kronkie we want to win the PL and the CL
And yes people fell for it, one decent signing and hey presto here comes the CL (not they we are in it)and PL.

We should all take the blame but the AKB who keep chirping on and on about wenger please stop you only fool yourself now

I said two years ago I would no longer put money into the club until it completely changes

I stand by my words, if you wish to continue to support the money making scheme that’s fine it’s not my place to correct you it’s your money enjoy

    1. We are the most incompetent club when u think we was playing 4-2-31 and we needed a lacazette type striker to complete the team then we change to 3-4-3 which ment we needed a welbeck type that’s got finishing but instead brought lacazette lol it’s a shambles welbeck is are best CF in a 3-4-3 it’s obvious so unless wenger is gonna go back to 4-2-3-1 lacazette was a waste of money for a club that hates spending money

    2. yet you are spending time and effort criticising Arsenal all the time… why not let it lie and come back in 2 yeara when arsene may have retired… no point being miserable all the time

  7. I would have loved Martial to be included in the list of options. Of all the possible external replacements for Sanchez he’s the closest like for like. Fast, strong, dribbles and scores playing a forward role attacking from the left wing. Lemar is more of a midfield winger than a forward winger. Likewise Mahrez (though from the right wing).

For internal solutions you should have included Welbeck. Though he doesn’t score much (Chamberlain doesn’t either) his workrate, dribbling and ability to take on defenders is the closest to Sanchez.

For me I would say go all out for Martial. He’s lost his place in the squad because of lack of game time at Manchester United and may miss the world cup if his situation doesn’t change in the coming season (he’s not been called up in the last 3 games by Deschamps). With Lukaku and possibly Perisic arriving this may be so for him. Coming to Arsenal would guarantee him game time and if he performs will make the French world cup squad. This motivation to make the world cup, together with his undoubtable talent would spur him to perform. He’s my best option.

Would Manchester United be willing to sell him to Arsenal? That’s the big issue. However Martial has 2 years left on his contract and by next summer would only have a year left on his contract. Manchester United would not able to receive a sizable fee should he refuse to extend his contract (should his situation not change he is unlikely to extend). Given the scenario above Manchester United may consider should we offer them a sizeable bid.

    1. Can someone tell we’re ozil fits into Chelsea’s team?? If he’s world class and getting 280k a week we’re would Chelsea play him? Or would he get into Man utds team? Or even Liverpools team? Is wenger not bored of trying out systems to fit ozil in the team formation and selection is a mess and buy players that don’t fit the system we play coz wenger takes the cheapest option or third choice target! Higuin was the target when he signed ozil! I want 4231 back with ozil at no.10 behind lacazette with alexis left and iwobi right then buy 2 CM’s like carvalho etc I’m sick of the mess the team is in with players out of position or not having the players that suit to system Xhaka is wenger latest mistake bcoz he can’t defend and is to slow and that’s why wenger went with 3 at the back! Any other club would sell xhaka and buy the right player in after surviving the last 10 games! Xhaka would not get in any top European clubs midfield and I’m sick of accommodating his slowness

    2. Mourinwhore wont sell any good players to us EVER…Cech was an exception as he thought he was past it and had newer, top model ready to come in. He HATES AW and Arsenal FC and will NEVER sell us Martial…watch this space! ???

      1. Moanihoe didn’t want us to have Cech, it was Abramovich who sanctioned the move as a thank you to him for his years of service, and no, moanihoe won’t sell to us if he has his way.

  8. HOW YOUR VOTE BEST DESCRIBES YOU! ?

Lemar: You’re a Typical Lemming, You probably haven’t even seen the kid play, yet you’re following the crowd, like the good little Sheeple that you is. ??

Asenso: You’re beyond delusional if you think that Real Madrid will sell us this future Star, not to mention his got a ridiculous sky high release clause.

Perez: You’re too sentimental for your own good.

Walcott: You have a great sense of humour and you probably got the lads poster stuck on your bedroom wall.

    The Ox: See Above. ?

Mahrez: Congrats, you obviously know your football, this player is already premier league proven and has a trophy that says so too.?

  9. Iwobi will never be a winger. He needs to play in the center i dont see him changing to a world clas winger but a midfielder maybe he can he has all attributes to be a awsome central midfielder.
To ox and walcot i say sell them. Theyare bang average theo is done. If you say he had a good season last year am certain you are fooling yourself. Ox lacks final balls and this is very hard to learn i dont thinkhe will ever reach sanchez level even when on top form unless he decides to work very hard. That means we need to wingers if sanchez goes and one if he stays.

    1. If we go back to 4-2-3-1 we can have
      —————–lacazette
      Alexis————— mahrez
      ————Carvalho ?????
      Kolansinac koscielny mustafi Bellerin

      1. I forgot ozil lol
        —————-lacazette
        ——alexis—–ozil——mahrez
        ———carvalho—?????
        Kolansinac koscielny mustafi Bellerin

  10. Jodie Taylor as our back up striker and Fran Kirby as our Cazorla replacement lol

Seriously though nice to watch the englabd women the other night without all the rolling around and cheating that goes on in men’s, I know not as much money involved. The women’s game had got better though the hatrick heroes goals I don’t walcott would have scored the 2nd or 3rd one!

  11. On a serious note we should be raiding Napoli!
Go for a package deal of 2 players that know each others game inside and out,(offer one of ours in exchange).
Ozil would click these two signings and hopefully the rest will follow.

Funny though it’s best of a bad bunch I really like ox but he’s not good enough well not within arsenal anyway. Watch him become a beast if he goes to any of the sides he’s linked with though.

  12. People just come up with new names every week .we will not buy anyone great or even remotely good. There will be couple of panic buys after we lose to either Leicester or Liverpool. Board and stan are thinking how to divide the 70 million they get from Alexis sale.

  13. Well if Alexis stays then Lemar and/or Mahrez will do

If Alexis leaves then we need Lemar and a top player to replace Alexis like Draxler, Marco Reus, Shaarwy, Gotze, Koke, Turan, Lewandowski, Coman, Shaqiri, Martial, di Maria, Muller,

    1. The best option would be usamanov buying his shares sacking wenger bringing in a coach that knows what formation he wants what players he wants then buys them and sells half the arsenal squad THE END until then it’s a complete mess

  14. @arsenalgirl.
If we want one of those top players we need to get a March on and sell sanchez or confirm for sure what we’re doing. Tick tock…..

  15. like I said bfor folks, don’t get ur hopes high.is still Arsene we talking about. same old…same old.

  16. Xhaka16.
‘This club!!’ Don’t mean my beloved arsenal?
No one is twisting your not to switch clubs?
Yes it’s frustrating but Wenger bless his cotton socks isn’t immortal, how old are you and have you the patience to wait?
