Which of the two £22m transfer deals is better for Arsenal?

If I asked this question a few months ago I expect there would have been a unanimous answer from the Arsenal fans, but the further improvement and current excellent form of our France international striker Olivier Giroud will probably have eased the need for a player like Cavani in many of our minds.

Amazingly enough though, a report in The Express claims that £22 million could be enough to sign the PSG and Uruguay star this summer, as the French club are under pressure to offload one of their star men to help them conform with the FFP rules and Ibrahimovich is still clearly their first choice front man.

If this is true then there are likely to be many clubs after the former Napoli striker, including Atletico Madrid and Liverpool. The Merseysiders are said to be our rivals for another £22 million priced player as well, the Inter Milan and Croatia international youngster Mateo Kovacic.

This talented and promising deep lying playmaker could actually be a better use of the money for the Gunners, not because he is the better player but because central midfield is one of the areas more in need of strengthening this summer, although rumour has it that Morgan Schneiderlin is our main target for that role.

Assuming that Wenger is given a decent transfer kitty, should Arsenal try to sign Cavani as well?

  1. I think the signing of both of these players would be a great boost for us for the coming season Cavani has undeniable class but can’t see Wenger going for a striker this summer considering that we only bought Welbeck not even a year ago, I think we should go for Marco Reus as our now customary (or so they would have us believe) marquee signing of the summer and promote from within to fill some of the other gaps in our squad, except for maybe CDM as we lack rotation in this area, but our very own Le Coq shows what promotion from within can achieve, he is just one of many players to come through the ranks to command a spot in our starting XI, such as Bellerin those 2 seem like almost the first names on the team sheet nowadays who would have thought that 1 year ago or even 6 months ago? What I’m trying to say is I think we should make 1 or 2 key marquee signings then promote from within, would love to see Zelalem get some game time next season!

  2. Kovacic any day. He’s 6ft. Still very young and probably one of the best talents in Europe. He can play deep or as No. 10. His vision and dribbling is exceptional and he’s very agile. Would be a great investment. We should’ve bought back in 2011.

    1. If we were after him it would mean that Wilshere is on way out along with Flamini Diaby and Arteta?. We have Beilik Coq Chambers and i can see Wenger getting another DM but going for a guy who isnt dissimilar to Wilshere… hmm i dont know.

Im not saying Jack is better player but Arsene has patience and belief even if/when we dont… and hes usually right as with Coq.

  3. If we really want to sign Cavani, then £2.2m should be enough. It’s not like he’s 20 years old or something. For all we know, he might be completely finished as footballer within the next 2 years. Why waste such huge funds on him??

    1. Really? He’s in his prime. He’s 28 dude. He’s a 30+goals a season striker if played there- £22 million would be an absolute steal – no chance of getting him for that money.

  4. If we have the believed 40 million to spend then I would say Morgan is a must and another solid CB. Depending on who leaves, Rues would be a better option than Cavani. I really hope we can keep Cazorla, Rosicky and Walcott though Rues would ease the pain if one of them did leave. The most interesting prospect is if Wilshere leaves and I would let him go to Man City for 30 million.

  5. Poldolski
    Campbell
    Flamini
    Arteta
    Sanogo
    Theo

All players can go and we get Dyabla and Morgan or as many say, “that kongo kid”.

  6. Lacazette, Dybala, Cavani, Reus. I would be happy with any of these.

Schneiderlin, Kondogbia, S Bender, Gustavo. I would be happy with any top DM.

With a top DM and top striker we will compete for 1st and CL. Just two players needed

  7. I don’t get why it seems loads of gooners have gone off Walcott??

Have you forgotten all the goals he scored in the last 2 seasons and before his injury? The poor kid gets injured and it’s like let’s all turn on theo again.

He’s lively and gets chances every time he plays. Last season his finishing was brilliant and he’s still quite young. Why would we want to sell him?!

    1. I cant believe rational minded Arsenal fans wouldn’t advocate improving the squad @ the possible expense of a current back up.
Even when fully fit, Walcott isnt just waltzing back into the 1st team.

If Reus is available and desires a move to the Emirates you do WHATEVER it takes to sign him, including waving goodbye to #14
