Which seven Arsenal players are holding Arsenal back?

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he needs to rid his side of up to seven weak squad members, while bringing in three big signings.

The Frenchman is believed to have been tasked with a fast and effective transfer window, with the board said to have been unhappy with the saga which ran until deadline day in the previous summer.

Arsenal are currently linked with a large number of players, and are supposedly working hard on strengthening the team, and Charlie Nicholas has now claimed they need to replace as many as seven players.

He said: “Wenger needs to unload six or seven of the weaker players.

“And, rather than signing more squad players, he must bring in another world-class defender, a top midfielder and a 20 plus goal striker.

“He needs another top midfield player with Santi Cazorla out.

“Raphael Varane or Virgil van Dijk would be ideal at centre-back and Alexandre Lacazette is the striker I wanted and hopefully the Atletico Madrid transfer ban means we’ve got a chance.

“We need a solution to Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil now.

“I think Ozil will stay but Sanchez will probably go and losing 30 goals is really damaging.”

Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny all look set on leaving the club, while Hector Bellerin looks increasingly likely to push for a switch to Barcelona. The Spaniard would surely not be included in that ‘weaker’ bracket, but who could he mean?

Which players could Nicholas be thinking of when he says ‘weaker players’? Would Coquelin have to be included in that bracket?

  1. I’ve only just seen Jesus Navas was released by City too… would he not be a good option to cover wings? Pushing Sanchez up field more? Free transfer 100k a week paying same as Walcott for a better player and he’s Spanish lol

    1. Sorry to bust your bubble mate but navas is very sorry excuse of a footballer. There’s a reason pep pissed him off day after season finished ??

      1. Haha was just a thought I’d never really watched him play fully was just a name which a lot of people used to mention on other sites, can see alot of people disapprove lol

    1. He is the biggest dead wood of them all but he rules the club so he won’t be going anywhere unfortunately.

  2. Being realistic we won’t sign James mabappe isco asenjo augero varane and abumeyang. I want Walcott welbeck Gabriel Gibbs debuchy jenkinson out and new contracts for ozil Alexis and ox. The biggest asset would be holding on to bellerin ozil and Alexis. Sign lacazette/benzema , henry onyekuru , lemar , cover for bellerin Thomas meuiner and bring back Wilshere cambell and chambers back from loan. Might not be the best of transfer Windows but still good enough for tittle challenge.

    1. What!

Are you really an Arsenal fan? I don’t think so mate. I think you are only trolling us real afc fans on here with that ridiculous comment of yours.

  3. Sell Gibbs, Wilshire,Jenkinson, Le Coq, Campbell, Walcott, Ospina and Elneny they are good but not good enough.
Bring In Belotti, Lacazette or Aguero as Striker
    Douglas Costa Wing
James Rodriguez , Isco or Tolisso for Santi role and no 10 cover.
Idrissa Gueye, Fabihno or Bakayoko as Dmf and we will be challenging again.
I think with Kolasanic coming in and Chambers coming back added to who we already have in defence is strong enough as it is so we need to sort out futher up the field.

  4. Ramsey, Walcott, Debuchy, Gibbs, Coquelin, Gabriel

Coquelin – His worst season. Won very few tackles. We need someone like Kante. By being our number 1 DM, we are being held back. Eleney isn’t good enough either

Ramsey- is simply not good enough. Played below average most of season

Gabriel – is not improving and bringing down Kane for penalty was final straw. Silly challenges

Gibbs-Monreal is better and now we have Sead. We could use a Top player in this position considering Montreal age

Walcott – Is not bad at all. But for his salary we should have a better player like Mahrez or Draxler. He is also injury prone

Debuchy – Injury prone, we need another backup RB

    1. Add giroud or welbeck .. And that would do for me … Bring in 3world class players 2 in attack and a creative midfielder, as sadly carzola is probably done for, and a couple of hopefuls and we shuld be ready to go … What will the delusional one do? … No idea

  5. Mmmm 7 things holding our club back…

    Let me think..???

    1. Stan Kroenke
    2. Ivan Gazidis
    3. Arsene Wenger
    4. Yes men on the Board
    5. Exceptance of mediocrity
    6. Abscence of true desire/intent to be the best (see points 1-4)

    7. Fans with 10 sec memories and misplaced loyalty

  6. six or seven is an exaggeration. We definitely need the squad to be smaller though. Gibbs/Wilshere/Jenkinson/Debuchy are the obvious four. Ospina leaving looks inevitable. From there, I guess you could say Perez only because he’s clearly not happy and Wenger doesn’t appreciate him. Huh, guess that does make six. Coquelin is a name that can be thrown around but he’s still a decent squad player in my opinion and you need that in a team. Walcott, is not going anywhere any time soon so not even worth debating that.

  7. I Couldn’t care less right now, I’m more concerned about who the players are that are coming in?
Let the so called hold – backers play in the Europa league, while the rest concentrate on the premier league.

  8. >hot and cold Ozil
    >wants to leave Sanchez
    >not always on target Welbeck
    >wastful ramsey
    >inqury prone carzola
    >immobile geroud and
    >unspending Wenger

  9. Wenger is busy,alright.. Busy racking the money in, before he starts spending it.

Speaking to Polish outlet Laczy Nas Pilka, Bielik said this:
Probably I will play Norwich City on loan next, talks are close to finalization. Certainly, I hope that after I go back to Arsenal on a permanent basis I find myself in the first team and get a chance in the Premier League

  10. 1. Yaya Sanogo (Already gone)
    2. Jack Wilshere (Always injured)
    3. Mathieu Debuchy (Just didn’t work out)
    4. Santi Cazorla (Always injured)
    5. Kieran Gibbs (Now surplus to requirements with Kolasinac signed)
    6. Per Mertesacker (Said himself his body can’t take it anymore. Make him a coach)
    7. Carl Jenkinson (Surplus to requirements)

IN: Top Central Midfielder, Top Centre-Forward, Top replacement for Alexis

New Alexis – New Striker – Ozil
Kolasinac – Xhaka – New CM – Ox
    Holding – Kos – Mustafi
    Cech

    1. I would want to see a much better defender in place of holding. And in my opinion, i would rather give Alexis what he wants and cost me an extra 5-10 million that try get someone else who will cost 60mil and still wont perform as well. Right now, whether we want to acknowledge it or not, Sanchez is Arsenal. Just get him a better CM and striker to work with.

People might disagree but i would sell Ozil ( Just not to a rival in the PL).

Walcott must just get a permanent injury. Wenger loves hom to much. For his contribution, the club is paying to much. Compare his salary to that of Willian or Mahrez and compare contribution. Who would you rather have??

  11. 1 Aaron Ramsey
    2 Aaron Ramsey
    3 Aaron Ramsey
    4 Aaron Ramsey
    5 Aaron Ramsey
    6 Aaron Ramsey
    And…
    7 Aaron Ramsey
All the other glaring candidates don’t even get game-time so they’re not exactly holding us back.
Ramsey on the other hand will be on the team sheet no matter how sh*te he’s playing. I’m sure he has something over Wenger, must be a sex-tape or something…
Ramsey is useless, can only pass sideways and backwards. Took him an entire season to score one goal. Oh and the Fa Cup just to secure his first team spot for entire next season.

    Wenger out!
