Which team will Wenger pick to face Koln?

Arsene Wenger said after Saturday’s win over Bournemouth that he will be picking a strong Arsenal team to face Koln on Thursday. He told the media: “It will be a Premier League team. Some players will come in of course, because many players played twice for the national team, and then again today. So two or three will not be in the squad, but most of them will play.”

So this is the team Wenger chose on Sunday….
Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal
Bellerin, Xhaka, Ramsey, Kolasinac
Welbeck, Ozil

So which changes will he make? First of all I am pretty sure that Ospina will be our keeper for this competition, which will keep him sharp in case Petr Cech gets an injury this season.

I have a feeling that he will give Lacazette and Welbeck a rest and play Alexis and Giroud up front, to give the Chilean a bit more match fitness ahead of Chelsea, and to reward Giroud for staying.

In defence Wenger may pick Holding and as he can’t pick a banned Koscielny he can keep him fresh for the Premier League. Coquelin is out injured so I reckon Ramsey and Xhaka will stay in midfield.

So this is what I think the team will look like on Thursday….

Holding, Mustafi, Monreal
Bellerin, Xhaka, Ramsey, Kolasinac
Alexis, Ozil

What do you think Wenger’s team will look like?

Keep it short maybe I’ll read or never mind I’ll skip whenever I see this name.

    …………………….. O spina……………..
    ……. Chambers… Per…….. Holding
    Nelson.. Willshire…. Ellneney.. Sead
    ……… Iwobi…… Sanchez…
    ………………. Giroud……..

    1. vish says:

      Chambers Mertesacker Holding
      Wislhere Elneny
      Walcott Iwobi Nelson

this should be our F A CUP , League Cup and Europa team with the EXCEPTION OF ALEXIS . once Alexis is match fit then Welbeck can drop into his positon . it will be a good way to keep the players sharp and allow our 1st time ample time to prepare for Premier league games .

      1. Kostafi says:

Walcott as a right wing back? Really.

        1. X Wing says:

          I concure
Theo must accpet he does not have a guaranteed sport for him, hence he must learn the hard way even with a rwb slot

Nothing much he had done as a forward either way

    2. Atid says:

I would like to see the team very close to this, however, I would try and fit in walcott somehow. I would also.like to see Debuchy, akpom, willock, nketiah and Da Silva, fill some bench space, however I think their chance will come again Doncaster

    3. Kostafi says:

Kolasinac starts against Chelsea on Sunday, so probably Maitland-Niles?
It begs the question why Bramall went on loan. I know he’s still raw but could have learnt his trade in the Cups.
Sanchez maybe to get match ‘fitness’ or shake off the fat jibes. Otherwise it’s Welbeck. But since Welbeck banged 2 in last week, he’s earned a start against Chelsea. My guess is AW will start Walcott with Sanchez getting 30 minutes in the 2nd half.
      Reiss.El Neny.Wilshere. Maitland-Niles

No Admin, Our beloved darling Arsene will start second team:

Don’t indulge him anymore mate, because I won’t be. He’s definitely a troll, and not an Arsenal fan. I’ve asked him many simple questions, that even a small child could answer, and yet Jembut couldn’t answer because it would have been an admission of how bad Wenger is, thus screwing up all of the intended trolling.

On the complete off chance Jembut IS a real fan, there’s still no point, because you cannot have a serious educated debate on the issue of Wenger. You’ll offer a fantastic argument, based on factual information, exposing Wenger for the fraud he is, and return you’ll get…ONE ARSENE WENGER! Brilliant, well thought out, counter argument. Jembut just reminds me of one of those religious nuts who believe in things made up thousands of years ago! Let me guess, the earth is about 6000 years old Jembut? Hahahahaha

        2. JembutArsene says:

Have you ever been so worried about something that just being around an upbeat person really pissed you off? How can they be so positive when things are going so crappy for you? What do they have to be so happy about? It does appear that some people are born optimists. The world can be falling down around them, but they still have a smile on their face and a spring in their step. Just a bit more optimism can make you healthier, wealthier, and happier. It’s well-worth taking a good hard look at yourself and taking action to tip the scales more in the favor of a positive attitude. The hallmark of the fully mature, fully functioning, self-actualizing personality is the ability to be objective and unemotional when caught up in the inevitable storms of daily life. The superior person has the ability to continue talking to himself in a positive and optimistic way, keeping his mind calm, clear and completely under control. The mature personality is more relaxed and aware and capable of interpreting events more realistically and less emotionally than is the immature personality. As a result, the mature person exerts a far greater sense of control and influence over his environment, and is far less likely to be angry, upset, or distracted. Look on the inevitable setbacks that you face as being temporary, specific and external. View the negative situation as a single event that is not connected to other potential events and that is caused largely by external factors over which you can have little control. Simply refuse to see the event as being in any way permanent, pervasive or indicative of personal incompetence of inability. Resolve to think like an optimist, no matter what happens. You may not be able to control events but you can control the way you react to them.

Have you noticed how strong-willed and determined some of us are, and that they would not let anything get in their way? On the other hand, have you noticed that some people are constantly complaining and making up excuses for their lives? That is the difference between a person that is mentally strong and one that is weak, and here you will get a deeper insight into some of the most notable signs that may indicate you are UNGRATEFUL MOANERS are mentally weak, you Tend To Complain More Than Other People, Mentally Weak People Do Not Want To Step Out Of Their Comfort Zone, Mentally Weak People Do Not Take Different People’s Ideas into Account, Quickly angry, You Tend To Be Overly Dramatic (drama queens). Some people do have short memories, while slating 3 out of 4 FA Cups Trophies compared to zero nothing your Poch spuds that you banged on about a great team, with zero trophies.

  5. gotanidea says:

Yes, I think Wenger will use some of the players you mentioned, but he would also give chances to other players. Because this match is going to be at the Emirates, he could ask the players below to start:

    Holding, Mertesacker, Mustafi
    Nelson, Wilshere, Elneny, Kolasinac
    Iwobi, Sanchez

Arsenal has a UEFA coefficient of 105
    Koln coefficient is 15.9.!!!
    The mighty Koln are actually
    last in the Bundesliga.
They are 0 and 3 having scored one goal.
They are about as good as Palace on a bad day.
Arsenals “Cup” squad should beat Klumsy Klueless Koln easily.
Besides our “B” players are paid mega millions
in salaries so they should be play.
Sanchez may start as he needs the game time.
    Ospina 40k per week
    Debuchy 70k Holding 40k Mertesacker 90k Monreal 75k
    Chambers 25k Elneny 55k
    Walcott 110k Wilshere 90k Sanchez 140k
    Giroud 110k
Bench: Macey Niles Bielic Mcguane Nelson Iwobi Asano.
    Score prediction 11- 0

I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and dump out a smarter statement than whatever you just said. If under the guidance of Le Prof Arsenal wins the quadruple titles of the Carabo Cup, the PL title which is the main big title win the teaming Gooners are after. Then also wins the FA Cup again and the Europa League Cup too all in a single season. Which I don’t think any club in the European football leagues has managed to achieve. I believe with these such a remarkable 4 title wins, I think the Arsenal board thereafter will offer Le Prof an immediate extension to his current 2 years deal at the club by a year. But Le Prof will likely holdout for 2 years extension which I think the board will consent to and keep him as Arsenal manager for the next four seasons to come beginning from this current ongoing season campaign.

Sing with me now. ONE ARSENE WENGER.

I’d like to see Nelson play at some point but he is not a wingback as some people seem to be placing him in their preferred team.

    1. Kilted Gooner says:

Totally agree, there is a rightfully lot of hype about him just now and there will be a lot of eyes on him if he is selected.

For that reason he should be played in a position he is most comfortable in, somewhere where he can express himself and concentrate on what he is good at.

Putting him at wingback in his 1st competitive game for the club would put him under unneeded pressure in my opinion.

  14. Gooner Craig says:

Ospina is defo in goal., Chambers-BFG-Holding is an interesting and popular choice. Bellerin and Kolasinac at WB as. I like the idea of them playing there. CM I’d like to see one of the young guns have a go, like Niles, Jeff, Willock, Bielik, etc, we have quite a few decent kids there and probably just partner Elneny as he needs game time too. Nelson and Alexis would be nice in attack with either Giroud (rotation), Lacazette (Europa experience) or Welbz (scored last game) up top

Or Wenger will go with same team but with a couple of swaps, like Ospina for Cech, maybe a Nelson or Niles in there somewhere too? Depends on how serious he is taking it and how much of a threat he thinks Koln will be pose
