Who else needs to score for Arsenal? Ian Wright has the answer

Ian Wright has called on Arsenal’s midfielders to contribute more goals to the team as Emile Smith Rowe starts to add goals to his game.

The Arsenal legend was impressed by the midfielder when Arsenal faced Aston Villa last Friday and said, as quoted by The Sun:

“You could see how disappointed [the fans were] when he hit the post just a couple of minutes earlier.

“He’s somebody that he’s been shooting from some crazy places, so he was desperate to get his goal. I’m quite pleased that he finally got it.

“I would like to see him getting more goals because Arsenal are going to need more goals from the midfield.

“We’re seeing with Emile Smith Rowe, we’re seeing with Saka, there is going to need to be more goals than just the dependency on Aubameyang.”

Just Arsenal opinion

Relying on our attackers alone for goals is not working for Arsenal and Wright is right to ask the midfielders to step up.

The ideal situation is that Arsenal wins every single match they play and the strikers rack the goals up but we are not in an ideal situation.

One of the side effects of relying purely on the attackers is that the opponents will have done their homework on them and neutralised them, which has been happening far too often.

At other times, the striker may be having an off-day.

In either of these situations, the team needs to win and that is where the midfielders’ goals come in.

The defenders could also chip in with goals, especially from setpieces, and this would help the team make progress together.

Thomas Partey was in fine goal-scoring form for his country in the last international break and could add more goals to Arsenal’s game from midfield as well.

  1. every single player that sees any time in and around the box needs to sharpen their scoring boots, as we’ve relied for far too long on Auba for a large bulk of our offensive production…of course, none of this can be remedied unless the handbrakes are removed on a far more regular basis…just look what happened when we adopted Arteta’s Xhaka-centric sideways tactics last season and Auba, when available, was starved for service, our offensive output was dire…in order for this current roster to raise it’s game there must be considerably more balance when it comes to the tally sheet

  2. I am keen to know whether this new section now called JA OPINION , which appears about half way down many articles, is the shared opinion of ALL in house writers OR only the opinion of the writer penning each particular article!!
Otherwise we fans might well be misled and that would never do, would it?
    So please do tell !
In the absence of any meaningful reply, I will regard it as a joint opinion of all of you and reply accordingly, in future.

  3. Wright is absolutely right. We need goals from the midfield and reliance purely on Auba or Laca is not correct. However, for this to happen MA will have to encourage the midfielders to get into goal scoring positions and shoot when they get the opportunity.
