Who should replace Ramsey for Arsenal v Besiktas?

Because of the importance of the Champions League to Arsenal, Wenger and the players, the second leg of the play-offs against Besiktas on Wednesday is probably more important than the Premier League away trip to face Everton on Saturday.

However, the Gunners have a big problem after our star player was rather harshly sent off in the first leg. The Welshman would have been a nailed on bet to start, but who can replace him? If he was fit, I would suggest that the job should go to Abou Diaby, but he seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.

We have not been told that he is injured again, but he has not been included in any of the recent matchday squads. And with his lack of football over the last few years, you would have to say that he needs to play against Everton to be considered for such an important game as Besiktas.

So that leaves us with the double pivot of Flamini and Arteta, if the Spaniard recovers from his ankle twist in time, or one of the two with Jack Wilshere or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Ox has really caught the eye with his limited appearances so far, but I think that Wilshere is the best option. He already looks better this season than last and it is probably his best position.

But Arsene Wenger must make it crystal clear to the Englishman that he needs to be disciplined and curtail his attacking instincts a little bit. Do you think that Jack should be the one to replace Rambo?

  1. So Loserpool are getting Mario. All the big and small fishes are taken, and in the end we complain that there arent any good players to buy from. Consider that Ozil and co will be back there wont be any problems to replace Ramsey. The problem actually is, IF, we are going to buy any new Dm, Cb and striker?

    1. balotelli is overrated either way, and would just disrupt the unity in the lockerroom thats has been around the past few seasons. Hopefully we do buy a striker, but i have no regrets that we passed on Balo. He’s probably just as unreliable as Giroud.

      1. Please f#%k off with the unity/harmony bs. I see that so much with Balo, and it’s such nonsense. Anelka, Nasri, Adebayor, Song all have personality issues and did great for us.

He can win games and he has a scoring record of 1 in 2. He would have been an upgrade on Giroud, however there are better players on the market in the shape of Reus/Cavani/Falcao.

Question is whether we will get one, Reus seems most likely. Please God…

        1. The ppl you compared balotelli with arent comparable. None of them have fought their managers, or let their attitudes completely dictate how they play. Yes, Nasri is a pretty crappy person, but he still gives it his all on the pitch, whether that was for City, Aresnal, or France. I have seen so many matches where Balotelli is just walking around, not caring, throwing a tantrum in important matches as well. No fan has time for that or wants to deal with it. And dont be fooled by Balotelli’s scoring record. he takes a huge chunk of penalties, and a lot of those decisions are controversial calls. And he seems to get a yellow every other match or so. That means he’ll be suspended a lot, and then you will probably end up complaining about why we bought him.

          1. Yep adebayor and anelka were absolute workhorses, no attitudes there. You’re delusional and clearly just have a massive chip on your shoulder over Balo.

He fights managers? How dramatic, he had an argument with Mancini…Mancini is a headcase too. Hardly means he actively fights managers.

“He takes a huge chunk of penalties and a lot of those are controversial calls” you clearly have something against him because you’re even having a go at the decisions to award the penalties he scores.

All his antics happen off the pitch, I think you’ve just been too happy with our timid team that you forget the strong characters that are sometimes needed. Vieira got suspended for fun, but he was class.

I’ll stop, you’re one of these guys who lambast players when they go elsewhere but rejoice when they join us. Balo is top drawer, and streets ahead of Giroud. There’s your bottom line.

            1. i have nothing against balotelli, you just believe the hype that surrounds him and its hilarious. He’s a media magnet, thats about it. Average player everywhere else who can occasionally score a wonder goal. And I’ve ALWAYS been against Balo joining us, even when he got linked earlier this summer, so might want to shut that trap of yours that cant seem to stop spilling out nonsense.

              1. I don’t believe any hype, he’s a top striker based on watching the guy. He’s not at cavani/falcaos level as I’ve stated…but he’s far above Girouds which is the whole point.

And yea I compared his yellow card accumulation to Vieira…not exactly comparing talents is it.

It’s a redundant topic, because most folk say Balo would be great for us, just the type of talent we need….then another team agree a fee and all the vitriol comes out “he’s a headcase”, “overrated” etc. Same people will say Khedira isn’t what we needed if he joins Bayern

                1. I would rather have remy and from what I hear that is well on the cards. Qpr enquired about coquelin, on loan arsenal.said yeah let’s have remy on.loan, so qpr said ok, but can you back off from vargas. Deals could go through next week, so will Alderweild (miquel going the other way) and khedira.

We get 3 world cup players in the positions we need and spend only £15m.

                2. Most folk do NOT say he would be great for us.
Most do NOT want him and never did.
Problem is, most want ANYBODY rather than Giroud, at least on here it seems.
Lets just see how Pool get on with him.

            2. and you seriously comparing him to Vieria? Everyone put up with him because he was world class, if you think Balotelli is world class, you’re living in a fantasy.

        2. I give you that Cavani and Falcao are better and def an upgrade.
Balotelli is a marquee signing, a “statement” if you will, but sorry to those who hate Giroud, Balo’s stats are not that impressive.
If they say he is a better forward because he is scary yeah, he is!
But I prefer scary in a defensive midfielder type

      2. wait seriously? A 24 year old international for 20 million in the age of hyper inflation for strikers is overrated? You are so unbelievable biased against him, most of these facts you listed aren’t even true.

        1. I don’t care about his actions off the pitch. The fact is Balotelli has a very low work-rate when on the pitch. We need a striker that’s willing to put their body on the line and work hard for the team. Balotelli doesn’t put the effort in.

No regrets that we didn’t sign him.

          1. Giroud does all you just listed….satisfied?

A striker needs star quality, finishing ability and an element of fear. No amount of ‘hard work’ will give Giroud that I’m afraid

          1. Really? Overrated : ‘exaggerate the worth of’

How is worth quantified? By putting a price on the player based on talent, age, potential, etc. and that brings us back to whether or not he is worth 20 mil and he is, especially to a team that doesn’t have many good striker option for example Arsenal or Liverpool.

    2. Balotelli last year, 14 goals for Serie A mIlan AC.
I like the guy, wouldnt have complained if we got him, but he is not an upgrade.

      1. You realise AC Milan was a mid table team last season… the season before he scored 12 goals in 13 matches when AC Milan was actually challenging.

        1. exactly, we would be buying the “star” of a mid table team…
          and I get thumbed down.
Man, I would love for us to buy Balotelli for all of you delided people that dont see facts in front of your face…

          1. This site has become a negative merry go round.
And I am one that hasnt been positive, hell I even ranted for about an hour when we were going 2-0 in that FA cuo final!!! but i know and enjoy when things are ok….
Jeez you guys….stop it! its nonsense!!!!
Balotelli is great because he was in a mid table team hahahahaa FFS!!!

          2. I love how you conveniently ignore the second part of what I said, the part where he scored 12 goals in 13 matches when AC Milan finished 3rd. What were the other teams he played for again, o thats right Man City, Inter, and the Italian national team.

  2. The ox and flamini as arteta is also out…

A double question for all: who would you like to see the most lars bender, khedira or carvalho

Press up for reus and down for cavani..

Im for reus and..well i have no idea about cmd…
    Try and elaborate your answers..

    1. Reus any day. When Walcott returns Sanchez could be shifted to the middle. With Reus on the left and Ozil behind, we will hammer the sh*t out of the opposition. Reus can also play as striker when Sanchez is not available by playing Ox on the left. So much options and flexibility this guy will give. Cavani will play only in CF role and though he would be a massive upgrade on the existing CFs, if I have to choose between the two : Reus all the way.

For CDM : Carvalho. We do not have any derth of talent for attack minded/box to box midfielders. I would prefer a big strong orthodox CDM over Khedira.Someone like Matic who has one and only one job i.e to bully the opposition MF cleanly(not like Flamini) and provide a permanent 90 min cover to the back line. Though Khedira would bring a lot of Swag to the team, Carvalho would be much more practical choice.

    2. It’s Manolas, Khedira and Reus for me.

I think the Khedira deal is a blink first scenario, Real know he won’t be their player this year so they’re holding on until someone gets desperate (maybe us with artetas injury) and pays top dollar….but I think we’ll wait until they fold and get him for a more token fee (10mil?) as he walks free next summer.

The deal I’m most concerned/hopeful over is Reus (or alternative). Wenger has been talking up defensive reinforcements but we’ve been solid, and were 2nd best in the league last year. Wenger acknowledged that it was scoring potential that saw us miss out, so I just hope another offensive player comes on board and he’s doing his usual transfer bluff strat.

God help us if he’s doing is “I’m a frustrating tit routine” and we get nobody.

  3. Debuchy-Mert-Kos-Monreal
    Flamini-Wilshere
    Alexis-Ozil-Ox
    Sanogo

Giroud, we simply cannot afford another of his rubbish performances or we are out of UCL, so no risk taking there. Sanogo has pace simply, and that should be enough, even if he doesnt score.

On a side note, I’m ashamed to have ever felt sorry for Malky Mackay. Disgusting person.

  4. Ramsey injury aside, two players who should not be in first team should be Giroud and Wilshere. They take the most valuable central space on the pitch but they are hardly effective. You can easily see their not so good play in the final third. They lose the ball very easily and undo the hard work done by other 9 players. Arsenal has little chancee of winning any significant title with these two in first team.

Giroud should be replaced by new striker or by podolski. The combination of sanchez and podolski , who have speed and high accuracy, and creativity of Ramsey, Ozil and Cazorla would terrorize the defense of any PL team. Similarly Wilshere should be behind the Ramsey, cazrola, Ozil, Rosicky, Cahamberlian in packing order until and unless he improves his game.

  5. Could also put jack on b2b santi on nr10 and ox on the left…ox left and sanchez right could be lethal

  6. easy: wilshire is backup for ramsey so he should play the b2b role.
flam as DM (better than arteta anyway so no big loss)
i’d like sanchez at CF so we can put 2 fast wingers (ox ,campbell)
and get rid of the plodding giroud: watch replays and how he labors to get into position
to receive sanchez’s pass: usually the defender is a step or 2 ahead .

neither giroud nor sanogo give me much confidence right now.

  7. How about starting Rosicky for a change. There is never a dull moment on the field when the Mozart is there. Attack, Defense, Accuracy, Work rate , Passion you name it and he has it all. What other traits we look for that position ?

    1. excellent idea,
      our Mozart is just class.
(I worry a bit about him being a lilttle older, but if he gets the work done then he can be substituted)

      1. He’s a little man for the bug games and they don’t get bigger than Wednesday. Crash out of Europe and we can probably kiss any hope of Reus, Kedeira, Carvalho et al good bye.

  8. Assuming we’ll be playing 4-3-3, our attack & midfield should be like this:-
[Willshere, flamini, cazorla (in front of them), OX, sanchez, giroud.

    1. Evening mr lean

Hope your keeping everything x come the 31st if you know what I mean..?

  9. Just read an article that Wenger is prepared to offer PSG our best striker + £35m for cavani..
Personally I’d give them £50m just to get him as far away from us… as possible..!!!

        1. Leano

          I’ve got a top article/comment ready for the 31st..

Keep a look out.. Although it could be the 1st of sept.. Lol

          How’s andrew AFC?

    1. well i dont agree that Giroud is that bad ,
but I would give the 50M for Cavani and keep Giroud as a sub.

    2. can you send the link to that article? I surely want to read it, I am a big Cavani-to-be-bought fan

    3. @phil-thompsons-nose
It’s all over the place. Apparently “caught offside” is running with it. Still sounds interesting…

      1. Ny G

        Everything x and ..
Every negative comment against Wenger would be ultimately withdrawn.. FOREVER!!!
Only rumours .. Salt and pinching eh..???

        1. Wenger will only be great when he has won us the UCL. Two trophies in nine years most EPL managers would have been long gone.

  10. Wilshere and Flamini will do with ox and Cazorla on the wings, Ozil in centre behind our new striker Sanchez.

    More realistic
    Wilshere…Flamini
    Sanchez…Ozil….Cazorla
    Giroud

  11. AFC accounts out in early September and if Wenger has not spent the 70m he has left I’m sure a lot of unhappy gooners will be asking serious questions about why the 3% rise in ticket prices !

    1. exactly, ths for the info. A while ago I asked in this fórum how much did we still had, if its 70M man lets go for Cavani, AND a defensive midflieder!!

  12. Sometimes I do wonder if we just deserve the results we have been getting for years now… Basically not much to celebrate about…!

I just watched (30 mins ago or so) on Canal+, Wenger been interviewed by “proper” sports journalists (not those idiots here afraid to ask the tough questions) and he said (and I am just quoting the deluded guy):

“I am happy with my squad and we have, unlike last season, more options and more quality”…!!

Then he said “Arteta injury needs to be assess. We are a bit short at the back and if something positive comes up we will reinforce, but I am really happy”

To that, the journalist asked ” You have less defenders than last season! How can you be confident?”

To which he replied ” We brought Chambers and he can play in 3 positions. He is also very promising and improving everyday”

Again the Journalist asked ” Don’t you think you might need a DM? Teams seem to play with 1,2 or even 3 players defence minded in those days”

To which he replied (delusion as a plus) ” Diaby is ready… Diaby will be ready to step up and he is very motivated”

I could go on as the interview went for 25 mins or so… I just could not stop laughing… I was not even disappointed because, by now, I almost know how the guy thinks and we basically can guess what is next will be (Ozil was a surprised, I must say and I hope he will perform this season because last one was sh*t).

This club is not made for the “big honours” because we have a manager with less balls than a coq… He is not even a good manager (proven) and tactically weak.

Liverpool will sign Balotelli and some Arsenal fans are laughing… Those are the same “idiots” who said that Wenger was right let Fabregas go to Chelsea…lol

When you look at our squad and who Wenger is prioritising (ex:Wilshere… May be one of the worse number 10 in the league), you wonder what are the objectives and how long before we look ridiculous again.

    1. LocAy
Your criticisms of Wenger & the team comes across as very very harsh, negative and at times OTT but its the friggin TRUTH!

        1. oh come on….
what is it now? a draw in a very tough field?
Alexis joining us instead if Mvila?
or two trophies in less tan 3 months?

              1. The frustration of Wenger brings delusion to us all.. And the double jack D’ I’ve just had…

    2. AW in the official site:
“[If he is out for a while] we will be a bit short of course,” he said. “If it’s a long-term injury, that puts us in a position where we have to be creative.”

    3. you are just unrealistic and think we can throw money on everything. if you were manager, ramsey wouldve been gone a long time ago. wenger doesnt always get things right, but stop acting like you know better or someting. And btw, transfer window STILL isnt closed!

  13. Evening mate, hope you are well, big week ahead and will make or break our ambitions.im worried about Wenger and think he will not spend on the players and positions we all know we need, hope I’m wrong though

    1. I am great thanks, lets hope Wenger pays the money for the players we need and doesn’t revert to shopping in the bargain basement.

      1. I’m sure by this time next week we will have a better idea of Wenger and the boards ambition.fingers crossed

      2. Andrew Andrew Andrew..

We all know.. No.. Sorry.. HE WILL SPEND… Andrew he will spend..

        Positive.. Right..???????????????????????????????????

          1. We were reportedly after Vargas – yet now goes to QPR!?!?!
            We getting remy..???
            Or remy Moses..!?!?!?

        1. @phil-thompsons-nose
Wenger and Arsenal reminds me of an ABBA song, the history book on the shelf
is always repeating itself but he is French what do you expect 🙂

          1. Ha ha nice one .. There’s plenty of songs we could do about uncle Arsene and his transfer dealings..
How about..edge of a revolution “nickleback” true colours cyndi Lauder.. What are you waiting for “the Saturdays..

            Bored…

O.T anyone fancy a punt on the next Huddersfield manager..?
Got a top tip from the managers best mate….

            1. @phil-thompsons-nose
If Wenger spends money on the right players, Huddersfield’s next manager will either be Mourinho, Rodgers or Gaal 🙂

  14. Will prefer Mozart to Wilshere. Jack gives away too many balls, his dribbling is just around his space without the dribble going forward or far. The one two touch passes he attempts, result mostly in failure and all defenders know about this. His commitment is true but he really needs to take a break and work on some of the skill set. He could learn a lot from Sanchez. When Sanchez goes past a defender it is lightning fast and he alway gains two or three yards going forward, not sideways, not behind but going forward. Jack needs to learn!

  15. Ozil / Ox / Rosicky will replace Ramsey for Besiktas Pt 2.

Balotelli is a massive gamble for Liverpool. I believe he could make or break their season.

It wouldn’t be difficult to disrupt a dressing room that has lost its best striker. I can see Sturridge and Balotelli coming to blows at some point. Sturridge has a point to prove and so does Balotelli.. strikers are known for their ego’s. Oh dear, that would be hilarious.

Even if they get on, it’s likely that Balotelli will p*ss somebody off at LFC.

  16. Szczezny
    Debuchy Mert/ Chambers Kos Monreal
    Flamini
    Özil Rosicky
    Ox Sanchez Campbell
Pace, accuracy and great finishing. Flamini gives that bit of bite in midfield that we need against a rough Turkish team. Rosicky offers vision and work rate. He’s in before Cazorla because Santi has looked lazy of late. Mozart can never be accused of that. I’d put Özil in ahead of Wilshere because even a half fit Özil can find a couple of killer balls a match. Jack has been working hard but he doesn’t seem to possess any vision and just passes the ball side ways. I’ll be angry if we see Giroud played from the start again. He offers so little to the team and you could physically see Ramsey, Cazorla and Wilshere getting annoyed against Besiktas. Play Sanchez up top and we will bang a couple past Besiktas. I’d play the same team against Everton as well.

  17. Debuchy-Mert-Kos-Monreal
    Chambers-Wilshere
    Cazorla-Ozil-Ox
    Alexis

This tells us all of the weakness of the team and we lack depth when we are all scratching our heads to try and replace Ramsey!

  18. V everton

Dreams will never cease! How I wish!!!!

  20. Arsene Wenger I think had concluded his transfer business. I think he will maybe sign one more player if we lucky. Don’t hold your breath gunners it will be a long season.

  21. Rosicky will do quite fine in Ramsay spot on wednesday. I actually think we playing this everton team at the right time and a great time for campbell and sanchez to be used as the wide players, I do not think everton defense is strong enough to stop our attack it would be even great to put wilshere in that role behind giroud, its a role ii think he may perform better in
