Why are Arsenal sending Calum Chambers out on loan? Please explain….

This is one move I really can’t understand as Calum Chambers has looked much more assured for Arsenal in pre-season, and also performed admirably in the last few games of last season while Emery was watching. But apparently it is very likely with both Sky and ESPN both reporting it as fact. The ESPN report says……

Defender Calum Chambers is in talks with Fulham over a possible loan away from Arsenal, sources have told ESPN FC.

Fulham are one of a number of Premier League clubs to make enquiries about Chambers’ availability, including the likes of Leicester City, Watford, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal are open to the idea of loaning out Chambers, 23, as he has fallen down Unai Emery’s pecking order, and Slavisa Jokanovic is keen to bolster Fulham’s defensive options before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.

I know Arsenal have brought in Sokratis to steady the ship in central, and Mavropanos could now be a candidate along with Mustafi and Holding, but UNLESS we are bringing in yet another centre-back then surely we need the ex-Southampton star. Last season, Wenger used Holding and Chambers in the Europa League games and League Cup matches, and they are supposed to be our pairing of the future. Surely they should be playing together as often as possible.

Can anyone explain to me why this is a good idea?

  1. Not a clue
IMO him and MOVO are the best 2, yet one isnt paying much and the other is going on loan

  2. The following players will leave Arsenal this week before the window closes:Welbeck,Ospina,Lucas Perez(£5 +£3m in add-ons to West Ham),Chambers(loan but terms involved in deal means he can be recalled) and possibly Mustafi if €30m asking price is met.

We are interested in Jerome Boateng and Demagoj Vida but Vida is becoming more likely by the minute.Jerome Boateng is only a real possibility if Pavard goes this window.

We are very interested in the following wingers:Thauvin,Bailey,Federico Chiesa,Lozano and Dembele.

    1. never possible that Mustafi will leave
that means we’ll have no defence, just new faces and inexperienced dudes
      can never be true
presently Mustafi is the Leader of that defence

    2. kev when you say “will leave Arsenal this week before the window closes” you open yourself up to ridicule if we are still stuck with one or two of them. What’s wrong with “might leave this window if we find buyers”?

The list of players you mention have been mentioned time and again as players we are looking to of-load yet in my experience and what I have observed, looking to sell a player often does not equate to actually selling him.

I don’t believe anyone knows with certainty, including Gazidas, which players will actually leave before the window closes.

    3. What happened to your earlier post, Aug 6, 2018, 9.08am :
‘‘As you can see I’ve stopped posting on transfers so as to spare us all the drama’?
Two hours later and here you go again!!!???

  3. I like Chambers. To me, he is at a stage in his career that he should either be with the first team or be sold. What is a loan spell going to do for him?

I also read some articles that Mustafi might be on his way out. If Chambers go than I don’t see Mustafi go.

I would like Chambers to stay and feel “endless” loan spells often don’t lead to great value for the club. Kepp him or sell him for decent money.

  4. It’s good to be back !
    Hola gooners .

Our window is running out and looking underwhelming. Vida is a 29 year old free signing 6 months ago for besiktas we are about to drop 25 million on him .
    Banter

Still need a winger and a proper cb
    Feel.for.emery . This isn’t good enough

      1. Went with the missus to Colombia and argentina
Had a great time. Spanish greatly improved 🙂

Plenty of banter incoming I imagine sue .
        How have you been ?

        1. Ooh that sounds good! Back in time for the start of the season hey?! Nice!
I’m good thanks….. you’ve got a lot of catching up to do on here for sure!
Good to have you back, banter & laughs incoming!!

  5. Apparently Fulham made an offer that is too good to be turned down

Should ask for Ryan Sessegnon from them as well

  6. Just watching as dramas unfold in the next 3 days.
Only a proven defender will please fans if Chambers is loaned.
I preferred we loan either Holding or Mavro.

  7. Its not hard to figure out the reason he’s been loaned out. Its simple! He’s not good enough. He needs more playing time than he will possibly get at arsenal. I rate mavro ahead of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Holding is loaned out too. The guy is ‘holding’ nothing down. I guess a proper defender may come in, but if it doesn’t happen, it makes no difference. Chambers may come good in the future, but for now, he isn’t good enough. I hope Jenkinson, Ospina, Welbeck and Campbell also leave before the transfer window shuts.

  8. Pat, you may well ask why! I read this in today’s paper and was gobsmacked and hope it proves not to be true, though it seems to be. Surely Holding is the one to loan out, NOT Chambers? Very strange! Frankly, I do not rate Holding at all and it now seems that we have Sokritis, Mustafi and also Mavropanos, whom I think will have left the others way behind(in effectiveness) by this seasons end. With Kos not likely to play a real part this season, if ever again, we are short at CB once again. I have to trust Emery BUT instintively think this is the wrong player to loan out. Chambers looks to be coming on very fast since the early Spring of this year. ODD, TO SAY THE VERY LEAST!

    1. I agree with you Jon and from what I’ve heard the deal with Fulham is with an option to buy after a year and in fact Fulham wanted to buy him but couldn’t afford him this season. Makes me wonder why Emery played him against Lazio and who is going to play against City on Sunday?

      1. True, Declan and it is VERY late in the day to change the defensive set up of which he has played a key role in pre season, let alone his much improved progress later last season. Common sense would indicate someone higher rated coming in before the week-end. Should that NOT happen , we would rightly be somewhat mystified OR conclude that Kroenke desperately wants to recoup money, even though it would only save Chambers wages . TBH, I just do not see Kroenke allowing a big buy this week, do you?

  9. far as i see it the rodriguez chap and even more so boateng are improvements worthy of this club, it appears an impromptu decision to suddenly see chambers off to fulham which can mean there’s room to be made for a quality addition likely to be former man city and bayern munich champions league regular *jerome boateng

    1. boateng no why do you think bayern want to off load him, when a player at bayern is losing form as by boateng they get rid of them.

      1. Quote: from Bayern Munich News and Commentary (article JUL 29th).

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to miss out on signing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng. Boateng seemed set on a move to PSG about last week after the Parisiens had started talks for the German and were close to agreeing a fee for him. Inside Futbol states that PSG’s deal for Boateng seems to be going down the gutters as they are refusing to meet the demands of the Bavarians and that could possibly lead to Boateng not joining PSG this summer. Bayern want a fee of about 60 million euros to part ways with the defender, but the Parisiens feel that the sum is excessive for Boateng, who is willing to leave Bayern this summer. Manchester United and Juventus have also been linked with the player, but no concrete offers have arrived. Bayern will sell the former Manchester City man, but only for the right price. (Ends Quote).

        1. Please note – i simply stumbled across this secondary source article about an hour ago. As to its substance i can’t be certain. But he could do a job until Chambers/Mavro have convinced (unai emery) there’s no risk fielding them as (big game) arsenal CBs.

  10. chambers needs to be in and around the first team at ARsenal now. Not necessarily first choice but certainly in the second choice pairing. I’d rather we sell Mustafi and bring in a clear senior leader centre back immediately and use Mavropanos and Chambers as our second pair. Send Holding on loan if anything.

  11. Chambers played well enough at the end of last season and in the pre-season games to be given a chance. Loaning him out will just see us selling him in 2-3 years anyway. IMO he’s at least no 3 in the pecking order of CBs.

  12. Chambers and Holding simply aren’t good enough, and we should get rid of both and get something better.
Chambers may be the best of the 2, which is why, Fulham want him. I doubt anyone in PL will take Holding.

    1. Trouble is the window closes in 3 days time. Unless someone has already been lined up of course?

  13. A strange decision to say the least if indeed it’s true.To my mind Chambers and Mav should start against Man City.Holding should be loaned out and Mustafi who is one of Wengers worst ever buys should be sold asap. The trouble is who on earth is going to buy him?

    1. The thing is that Arsenal have to compete in 4 competitions this coming season and given the club’s past experience with injuries (currently CB’s and LB’s), Arsenal now appears very light on.
I’m still annoyed that many of us on here wanted Virgil van Dijk when he was at Glasgow Celtic. Arsenal missed out on him and so many others, who ultimately increased greatly in value.
Sven’s “golden eye” better be working overtime.

    2. Grandad, I am with you on your rating of all our CB’s. However we, surely need to keep four at the club , plus the injured Kos, at least til and IF , Kos ever gets back as he once was. I would love to see the back of Mustafi, once properly replaced.

  14. I reckon its Chamber’s decision esp if he knows we’re interested in another CB, he needs to play because he misses allot of game time when he stays at Arsenal. From the guys there in a similar situation to CC, CC would be better back up right at this minute. Right now he even looks respectable versus the supposed starters. Holding and Mavrapanos are behind him so I can only assume he wants to go somewhere and play rather than missing out most weeks. Also he made his improvement after coming back from the last loan only he didn’t get enough game time here despite there being ample cause to play him ahead of seniors.

  15. Emery’s Got Someone Lined Up He Wouldnt Let A Defender Go On Loan Without Someone Coming In He Knows Our Problems And Is Working Very Hard To Solve Them Arsenal Fans Dont Worry

  16. Chambers? why? If I am the manager, I will start him ahead of any other person in this team. There are two Chambers, one at CB and the other at RB. The CB has always being impressive honestly. Even if we are bringing someone in, I’d have looked forward to partnering him with chambers. Maybe ‘Go ask Alice’ is spot on. But on any ground, chambers living is a negative for the team
