Why Arsenal are in BEST position to challenge Chelsea

Arsenal fans will no doubt be getting impatient at some points of the summer and calling for Arsene Wenger to splash the cash and bring in the right players to push the team on and make us genuine challengers for the Premier League title.

But even though our slim title hopes this season, as well as the hope of a second placed finish, ultimately fell short, I think we have good reasons to believe that the Gunners are in the best position to wrestle the crown from Chelsea and Jose Mourinho next season.

The Blues will no doubt be a tough nut to crack again, especially as the easing of the FFP rules means that they can spend big money to strengthen an already strong squad, but I am not so worried about our other rivals for a number of reasons.

Man City have a massive job to do and we know that big money signings do not always settle quickly and that problem increases with the number of new players coming in. Even if they do stick with Pellegrini, which I doubt, the club will have to undergo a big transition and could be playing catch up.

Louis van Gaal may have steadied the ship at Man United but they have been far from convincing and they also need to make some big changes to their squad. Up front they need two new strikers and the Falcao saga proved that a big name does not guarantee you goals. Their midfield and defence will be overhauled as well and the loss of De Gea to Ral Madrid will be a massive blow.

Liverpool have had a torrid season and will do well not to crumble, especially with all those pesky Europa League games on a Thursday to cope with. Like with the other two clubs, Rodgers has a huge task on his hands and it may take half a season for them to really hit form.

Arsenal meanwhile are all about continuity and will have just a few key signings to slot into an already confident side. And if we really have solved the problem of constant and recurring injury problems then we have the squad to cope with all competitions. Now is when the decision to stick with Wenger through the bad times could pay off. But will it?
