Why Arsenal fans should take note of this former Spud

Arsenal fans have got clear reasons to not be too inclined to any feelings of warmth towards Harry Redknapp. Not only did ‘arry manage our arch rivals Tottenham for a few years, he fathered Jamie who played for the spuds and just loves to give the Gunners some stick in his role as a football pundit on TV.

But even though Redknapp had little nice to say about the Gunners during his time at White Hart Lane, I can understand that and it goes with the territory. In fact I cannot help but have a grudging admiration for him as a manager because he did run us as close as any Spurs team has in the last couple of decades and he did get them into the Champions League and into the quarter final.

So we should accept that he is very knowledgable about football and the Premier League specifically and that is why I was pleased to read his thoughts in a Daily Mail report on Arsenal and our imminent capture of the Chelsea keeper Petr Cech. Redknapp has no reason to big up the Gunners but it is clear that he thinks we are the club that Chelsea need to fear in their attempts to retain the BPL trophy.

The former Tottenham boss said, “It’s a great signing. I think it’s a massive signing. To have top quality goalkeeper is massive.

“I think Arsenal could now be the biggest challengers to Chelsea next season, particularly with maybe two more signings.

“I can understand where Jose is coming from.

“But in the end they can’t keep him there forever. Thibaut Courtois, for me, is the best keeper in the league.”

So is Harry right and can we do better than just putting up a fight and actually win the thing?

  1. Have to admit harry was spot on! Add A quality DM and a Striker to the list, and we can make a damn good fight for the title! Coyg!

    1. Arsenal have made a move for Morgan Schneiderlin, but the player already made an agreement with Man Utd.

      1. Apparently so. Missed out on Kondogbia too. That only leaves Krychowiak as far as I’m concerned. And if we don’t get a DM this summer and it inevitably costs us the league, I can see a huge backlash from the fans.

But I’m concerned over who we may/may not get.

        GK: Cech, great.

Defenders? We just bought Gabriel, and our fullbacks have been performing, so I don’t think so.

Midfielders? If not a DM then what? Surely not another attacking midfielder? And Ramsey is a top B2B, so no replacement needed there…

A striker? We don’t seem to be after one, though we need an improvement on Giroud it doesn’t seem as if one is coming.

A winger? If we aren’t getting a striker, sure. But again, no real rumours going around.

I know it’s not even open yet, but I’m worried about this transfer window. I trust Arsene and Gazidis not to wate our money when they spend it, but I don’t trust them to spend it in the first place.

  2. Arsenal made a move for Morgan Schneiderlin last week but the player already has an a agreement with Man Utd. Wenger left it too late

    source- agent edward

    its done guys

WE ARE NOT GETTING MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN

    MOVE ON LOL

    1. Unless you have a brother-in-law working at AFC public relations office it is nearly impossible for you to know the things you state about Schneiderlin. You could be right. But the transfer rumor mill is usually about 99.99% wrong/nonsense so the odds are not good.

    2. Agent Edward is a joke. Same guy who was completely wrong about fabregas. Twitter accounts aren’t legit sources unless they work for one of the legit news sources. Can’t say I’m surprised that united got to schneiderlin though but I doubt arsenal approached him at all because we were literally linked with him forever and way before United. If we are letting United get him I’m assuming we just passed.

      1. Just curious, why do fans always say we passed on that player? I think that we being interested and loosing out because of various reasons(player preferences, too much money being asked) is much more closer to reality. Just because we never publicly acknowledge we wanted to sign a player dosen’t mean we weren’t interested in signing them. Sometimes it goes our way sometimes it doesent. But its quite funny we as fans always prefer to think “we passed on that player because he wasn’t good enough for us or that we were never in for him!”

  3. when it comes to transfer we are just to slow to act. If united buy morgan schiniderlin it won’t be funny. Thats the thing with Arsenal. Oh we have artetta and flamini? Arteta and Flamini really? we are nuts if we think Coquelin can handle a complete season in England.
Wenger will start saying that some clubs were very quick in the market. Fxxxx Pool sent 3 directors to chile to go wrap up a deal . get permission from the brazilan coach and do medicals? why can’t we be ruthless?
Even the Cech deal? medical next week? Till you see him on Arsenal.com just hold your breathe. When it comes this transfer this club sucks.

We are very close to chelsea but we lack the balls to go out ther and get what we need. That why we aint won the league in 11 years. Its as if we don’t want to win.

City transfers are slow. Atleast i undrestand that they after big fishers like de bruyne pogba and sterling in £150m deal. Are we also after expensive transfers? its taking us 2 weeks to do a medical for CECH.
Atletico got Martinez and Vietto. Did their fans say they have too many attcking players? Did they complain about martinez age?
say what you want. truth be told we suck at transfers. Our fans are the only fans who look for excuse not to buy players.
    Martinez is old
    Higuain is shit
    lacazette is unproven
    Kondogbia is overated
    Schiniderlin is expensive
    cech is old.
That why we finish 4th most of the time.

    1. Wenger has indeed disappointed many fans with transfers. However he did get Ozil and Sanchez recently. If you don’t like these player then there is not much hope.

Also, demanding the acquisition of or the exclusion of specific/named players is a dangerous game. All we can do is hope that Wenger fills the right positions with players who fit with Arsenal and who appear to have talent.

      1. Yep he got Özil and Alexis. Top signings, but he also failed to fill the other positions we needed – a CB last summer is the best example, plus we’ve needed a good DM for goodness knows how long, a striker too. I know we have a limited budget but the neglect he’s shown to some positions has been totally unacceptable.

      2. Sanchez top signing,Ozil is coming good, but we all know Ozil wasn’t really needed as much as a top striker was.Giroud is not really a player who “fits” with Arsenals style of play nor is Mertesacker, both are too slow, yet Wenger bought them, can we really trust Wenger to fill these positions properly?

    2. I’ll give you plenty of excuses not to buy players, but I’ll always say who I’d buy instead and you’re free to disagree with me on that. For me our top transfer targets should be Cech, Krychowiak and either Cavani or Reus.

    3. Panicking Galen? 🙂
      not like you mate.
      Wenger bought in
      7 players last season.
Ospina Chambers Debuchy Sanchez Wellbeck Gabriel Campbell.
Coquelen Bellerin are like new players
Walcott Chamberlain Gnabry Wilshere are like LANZ
13 players stronger than this time last season.

  4. Cech could be the key
    in the title campaign.
    No wonder Mou says no.
    Why is Abramovich allowing it?
May be Roman rates Arsenal so
low he reckons it won’t matter.
Mate, Check the cheque for the Czeck Cech .

  5. I’m not convinced. Cech is a great improvement for us, but I don’t think it’s enough to get us close to the title. I won’t be confident of winning the title until we have a team that gives me belief that we could (‘could’) not even ‘would’) win away at Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and the Etihad without it being a fluke.

For me, a perfect summer transfer window would have us lining up at the Bridge like this next season:

    __________Walcott
    Reus______Cazorla_____Alexis
    _____Coquelin___Krychowiak
    Monreal__Kosc__Per__Debuchy
    ___________Cech

That’s a team I’d believe in, a team that could win the 3 points. A very strong defence, Cazorla, or Özil, don’t mind, to launch counterattacks. Those 3 up top would give us unreal pace, movement and (most importantly) quality on the break. Chelsea wouldn’t dare press us.

That’s not just a team for the PL either. It’s a team I would trust away at the Nou Camp if we drew Barca in the CL. It’s not a team to beat everyone, we won’t have a Messi or Ronaldo, but it’s a team that could challenge anyone, and to me that’s most important.

    1. win at the Nou Camp with Per at the back, and Walcott up top?not convinced matet, but the other positions look solid

    2. Great hypothetical team. But seems more a Klopp or Mou side than an Arsene or Pep one. Obviously prioritizing heavy midfield pressure and fast transition, as opposed to dominant possession and periods of intense pressure.
Arsene values possession football, and against the 99% of teams that we can outplay in midfield he’d opt for the extra creative. Even if Wenger signs Krychowiak, he’s going to try harder to field a team with two of Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey or Wilshere in positions of heavy influence than Coq and Krychowiak.
With Sanchez seemingly want to get involved absolutely everywhere on the pitch! I think we’re going to see a bit more of the lopsided 4-4-2 when attacking next season with Theo given a fair amount of freedom playing off of Giroud on the right. Ozil will drift into the space vacated by Theo and Cazorla will set up a bit deeper on the left linking with Sanchez. Obviously we play an extremely fluid, interchangeable system, but I suspect these will be the areas of influence.

      1. Apologies! Just read your at the bridge comment. Prioritizing the counter-attack seems futile against a team who will most likely have 6-8 players behind the ball at all times.

    1. I watched a few videos of him the other day. The way his head is always up looking for his team-mates is very uncharacteristic for a defensive midfielder. It actually reminded me of when Ozil carries the ball. Personally, I don’t have high hopes for him this season, but will be nice to see him pre-season and CC

  6. i d understand Morgan if they promised him a starting place at manu.
wenger couldnt have cause first choice right now is Coq.
But i d personally chose the betteer team and make room for myself..but i am no prof footballer so…

  7. papers and others are putting 2 and 2 together (not knowing if they are getting 4 or not) schneiderlin has said he has come to a deal with who he hasn’t stated and united have failed on certain targets. the belief being that schneiderlin was the fall back plan.

arsenal either haven’t got DM targets or they also have better targets.
