Why Arsenal should not wait to sign Vinicius Junior as a free agent

Arsenal have been keen to sign Vinicius Junior during this transfer window, but there are questions over why they are not simply waiting to sign him as a free agent at the end of the season.

The Brazilian has entered the final year of his contract at Real Madrid, and the two parties have struggled to reach an agreement over a new deal. Talks have been ongoing for at least a year, as Madrid moved quickly to avoid losing him without receiving a transfer fee.

Arsenal monitor Vinicius Junior situation

Real Madrid remain confident that Vinicius Junior will stay at the club, but the forward must sign a new contract for that to happen. This situation has encouraged Arsenal to believe they have a strong chance of adding him to their squad during the current transfer window.

The Gunners continue to monitor him closely and have positioned themselves well in case an opportunity emerges for him to leave Madrid. They have made their interest clear and are prepared to act if the situation develops in their favour.

However, Arsenal cannot simply wait and hope that Vinicius Junior becomes available as a free agent. According to Football365, that scenario is unlikely to happen because Madrid will not allow the player to run down his contract, and the Brazilian also has no intention of doing so.

Arsenal must act quickly

If Vinicius Junior decides against signing a contract extension, Real Madrid are expected to sell him during this transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of his deal. This means Arsenal must be prepared to make their move if they want to secure his signature.

The Gunners face competition and uncertainty because the player’s future depends on decisions made in the coming weeks. Waiting until the end of the season could leave Arsenal without an opportunity to complete the transfer.

For that reason, Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius Junior is focused on acting at the right time. If they fail to make their move, the Brazilian could decide to join another club instead.

  1. I’ve said all along that Real Madrid won’t allow to stay unless he signs a new contract. They are not going to miss out on over £100m.

    1. Herr Drier,

If Vinicius wants to let his contract run down, there wouldn’t be a thing Real could do about it.
Yes they could make his life difficult regards making him train elsewhere at the club as happens.

But if he was prepared to deal with such tactics, he could quite easily let his contract run down.

  2. Real Madrid won’t want to lose the player for free, but they won’t let him leave without a fight to keep him.

So, I’m sure they will give him what he wants and get him to sign a new contract

Much as I would love to have him at Arsenal, I doubt that would be. I hope I’m wrong though.

    1. It’s a bit more of a tricky situation for Madrid that just dealing with Vini’s contract in isolation. They started getting themselves in trouble with conceding to Mbappe’s requests when they signed him. Vini is now asking for the same deal.

So if they concede to Vini’s contract requests, then what’s to stop Bellingham also asking for 80% of his image rights? And so on with every key player.

It breaks their financial model if they concede their negotiating position on image rights to player agents and can’t recoup/cover top salaries from them.
