Why Modric injury could HELP Arsenal complete January transfer

It looked like bad news for Arsenal when the reports came in this week that the Real Madrid and Croatia international midfielder Luka Modric had picked up an injury while on international duty. But now it seems as though it could actually help Arsenal to complete the transfer to solve the long running defensive midfield issue at the club.

At first look, the Modric injury that will keep him on the sidelines seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of our chances of signing Sami Khedira in the January transfer window, because it opened up the opportunity for the German to play regularly, while Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti would be reluctant to let him leave.

And while that may be true, the Daily Star have reported that this situation could actually open the door to the transfer of another Real Madrid midfielder, the young Spaniard Asier Illarramendi. The 24-year old moved to Madrid last summer after starring for Real Sociedad in the deep lying midfield role but he has failed to force his way into the first team and has only started three games this season, compared to the 16 started by both Modric and Toni Kroos.

And the report claims that Illarramendi is ready to force a January move if Khedira now gets the nod ahead of him. So it looks like one of the two Madrid players will be playing and staying at the Bernabeu. The other could well be right at the top of Arsene Wenger’s transfer list.

  1. He’s not really wat we need…As Carragher said, we need a big strong CDM. Illaramendi is sort of like Arteta.

Carvalho, Kryzhocki, Khedira, Kondogbia, Kramre, Schneiderlin, Iturraspe, Geis, Gustavo, Bender.

    1. yes agreed. But Carvalho is NOT ready for the premier league, very raw. With the exception of Khedira and Bender, none of these players would be above 20 mil. Unless Messi magically hands in a transfer request and wants to go to AFC, a CDM should be the top priority.

    1. the media love to play us arsenal fans.
      havent you seen the trend?
they build us up with these outrageous
rumours so we’ll click on their articles.
then they squish them and feed off our
      click bait again.

i dont put too much stock in these
      rumours:
      cech, khedira, hummels, reus,
      carvalho, quintero ON and ON
      and ON

  2. I still rather jeffrey kondogbia! He is strong on the ball, no nonsense, skillful and has pace! This guy is a beast we should really make a serious offer for him! Coyg!

  3. If Wenger gets a DM and CB it will end up being Gareth Barry and Rio Ferdinand or Sol Campbell coz they iz cheap Innit

  4. i just had a thought, so arsenal was found out by teams and the way to play them is to be physical with them then once dispossessed to counter attack right? Well why not make sure A) We have a sitting DM like a matic and B) Sacrifice of the one touch tiki taka football for strength/power?

    1. We don’t have personnel to go the power-play route. We tried it against Chelsea but once they shifted gears to a notch higher we were left flat on our stomach. For a small engine as ours 4-2-3-1 formation guarantees goals with the option of being hit as well i.e if we drop our level of concentration. 4-3-3 guarantees us the beautiful tiki taka display with very limited or no goals. Of-cause there is always the option of being mauled. 4-4-2 is a decent formation if we pick Welbeck supported by Poldolski as our main strikers since we are weak on the DM position.

  5. articles are getting bad to worst….

    we need some quality articles…

    come on Admin…

    spend the money!!!!

  6. I’m so sorry to say, in terms of Team selection, Time of Substitution and Transfers, Arsene Wenger is a complete idiot…. I do wish someone else do all that 4 him while he does jst d training and management of th team….. It’s so painful to be an Arsenal fan at this moment… What we buy is speculations and rumours.. We don’t really buy real and good players we need…. I won’t be surprise if wenger buy just a player in January, a player like Kallstrom…. He’ll keep giving us shits about how he tried to sign this and that

  7. For me Christoph Kramer from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Sebastian Rode from Bayern Munich are better, younger and cheaper DM than the Bender twins or Sami Khedira. they cost roundabout 10mio and they searching a new club.
