Why would Giroud want Sissoko at Arsenal?

Sissoko? Really? by DN

Arsenal brought in Granit Xhaka at the beginning of this summers transfer window, to add to a packed Gunners midfield alongside Cazorla, Coquelin, Ozil, Ramsey, Elneny, Oxlade-Chamberlain and the newly added Jeff Reine-Adelaide. In fact we have so much cometition in the middle of the park that Jack Wilshere had to go out on loan to try and get some playing time, so why on Earth would we want Mamadou Sissoko to come and sit on our bench with the rest of them!

So I have no idea what Olivier Giroud was thinking when he tried to convince Sissoko to join us instead of Tottenham, but he has admitted that he tried. “I told him to give Arsenal the priority.” Giroud said. “It’s true it was special denouement. Until the end he didn’t know what he’ll do,”

“It’s good for him. I think it was quite a long month for him so it’s good that something could have happened even in the very last moments. It’s great for him.

“Tottenham is a great team in our league. Obviously we all wanted for him after his good Euro and great performances, that he joins a premier League club. In the Premier League Tottenham are an opponent for the trophy this year. I hope he will not be in good conditions against us.”

I can’t think of any other player that has begged Arsene Wenger to sign him as many times as Sissoko, and I’m sure if Arsenal needed an ageing so-so midfielder at a ridiculous price (reported to be £30 million) I’m sure we would have got him, but thankfully Wenger is not as much of an idiot as Oliver Giroud!

  1. “Thankfully Wenger is not as much of an idiot as Oliver Giroud” — In the immortal words of Brian Moore, “That sums it ALL UP”

  2. Seriously people are still living off his Euro hype. The guy had a complete rubbish season last season contributing in Newcastle being relegated and even Newcastle fans were saying this. Tried to ditched them after he did nothing to help them from sinking and claimed his love for Arsenal. He is now where he should be with that bunch.

A bit disappointed in Giroud if this is indeed true, the player he should have been courting was the 1 he had a natural understanding with during the Euros. You know that guy that plays for Atletico Madrid, who could have slotted seamlessly in our RW.

    1. Wah gwaan bredda….girouh dont want no striker at arsenal..he’s afraid he won’t be starting as much which is what he deserve at this point…hopefully P9 keep him on the bench most games…big up urself

  3. Griezmann would be the perfect signing. Not a huge fan of Simeon but if he brings Griezmann with him the A big yes but it seems griezmann has set his heart out on joining Manchester United.

    1. Yet Griezmann has said he wants to stay in Spain because he’s happy there. I don’t care how much me loves Man Utd, if he moves there without us putting up a fight for his signature at least then that would be truly disappointing. I was screaming we should have got him back in summer of 2014 after the World Cup as a part of the Vela deal, the same summer we got Alexis Sanchez “BABY”!!! Would of thought Wenger being his fellow countryman would have counted for something then. Imagine how our wings would look now 2 years later. So he chose Simeone and Atletico Madrid who were defending La Liga Champions at the time but won nothing since. Money talks nowadays and oh PS Giroud as slow as he is, has anyone checked his age lately? Won’t get any better I tell you…

  4. As usual, this player (Sissoko) is likely not as good as the hype suggests and not as weak as his detractors claim.

The question is…….. would he really ADD to the squad. I am sure he would do OK – but he is not better than Arsenal’s current crop of players. Did Wenger not send Campbell on loan? Why do that and then get Sissoko? And his record does not warrant 30 mil for sure.

    1. his price tag is over the top but yes he is better than some of our over paid lads. he is strong, fast, likes to take opponents one on one, he shoots from anywhere, why would Walcott or Ramsey be better than him? for the love of your club and our players, you have a point, but in the real world? Sissoko is an upgrade to most of our soft so called CMs

  5. because he won’t want a real striker that ll make Wenger finally bench him.. but rather another midfielder to congest the midfield, this time an average one.
