Rival fans have been reacting to reports that Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. The verdict was reportedly delivered by an independent commission, although sanctions have not yet been decided and City are expected to appeal.
The charges relate to alleged financial rule breaches during the period from the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons. City have consistently denied wrongdoing, and the club has stated that the Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements still to be completed.
Arsenal would not receive a league title
There has been speculation about potential punishments, including the possibility of Manchester City being stripped of titles won during the period covered by the charges. However, no decision has been made to remove any trophies, and the sanctions process remains separate from the commission’s determination.
Some Arsenal fans have therefore discussed whether the Gunners could be awarded a Premier League title if City were retrospectively stripped of their honours. That scenario would not apply to Arsenal because they did not finish second to City during the seasons covered by the charges.

League Cup could go to Arsenal
As reported by Standard Sport, Arsenal would not be awarded a retrospective Premier League title because the seasons in which they finished runners-up to Manchester City, 2022-23 and 2023-24, fall outside the period under investigation.
However, Arsenal could potentially receive the 2017-18 League Cup if retrospective changes were made to City’s honours. The Gunners lost that final 3-0 to City at Wembley, meaning that competition is within the period covered by the charges.
For now, though, there has been no decision to strip Manchester City of any titles or trophies. The club is expected to appeal the reported verdict, while sanctions are still to be determined.
The current situation therefore does not mean Arsenal will receive any Premier League titles. Any retrospective changes would depend on the eventual sanctions process and the outcome of any appeal, with the relevant authorities yet to make those decisions.

It’s doubtful because, out of fairness and to recover financial losses, there would also have to be a complete repositioning of all clubs, including those that were relegated. Perhaps they would just get the dreaded asterisk against them, other than whatever sanctions are imposed by the Premier League.
I’d say that it’s more likely that most clubs that did lose out (Premier League losses and projected Euro winnings) would sue City.
This will go on for some time yet.
Nobody’s going to want to sign for them now, and they’ll have trouble hanging on to some of their stars.
what a filthy, disgusting, cheating club Manchester City is! The mugs must be relegated at the very least.
Between MC and Chelsea, they left a stain on English football. The fact that they got away with stockpiling players they never used for so many years. Ruined some potentially good talent. They cheated every step of the way. Plus they blew the lid off of the player purchasing prices and wage structure. Giving the players and agents virtually unlimited power. I’m with QD. They need to be relegated. But to non league football. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…
The logical outcome should be based upon one simple fact:-
Assuming validation of guilt the justice should be applied from the date the injustice took place NOT the date that the judicial investigation and resulting outcome was established!
It is a spurious argument to say that City met the the rules from some later date during which they remained plying their trade under a premiership banner! At this juncture how can they claim to be innocent? How can they claim any right to have remained in the premier league? They were the guilty party; and by any natural justice should have NOT occupied a place that they had achieved by falsehoods: no matter what gains or outcome they benefitted from!
The reality would be that their so called success at whatever level needs to be expunged totally! let them suffer the monetary punishment and redress caused to other teams! In full! That would send a clear message to all!
Turning to the question of award of lost title / cup winner opportunity to other clubs? Any such backdated award would always be a tarnished outcome! Unable to be spontaneously acknowledged and celabrated with natural joy!
The historic table / record needs to be made null and void! This, sadly, would forever paint a massive blot upon corrupt administration! A dire warning to all clubs NOT just City.
Sadly the poor fans just need to suck it up! At least they were able to enjoy a very skilled manager and a very skilled team! But giving them GONGS? NO WAY!
James
To answer the headline question, No.
The fact they cheated with payments and other stuff is neither here nor there, they had a team, albeit cheating to get it, they beat us to the title playing football with a better team and coach. The cheating wasn’t on the field of play or bribed refs. Sorry if that upsets people but an asterisk against us winning the title by default is meaningless to me.
no and we shouldn’t
strip them of titles but it becomes too convoluted to back date results
Absolutely agree Dan. You said it in far fewer words than I did 😊
It aeems us two older Gooners are going to disagree on this one GB.
If I’m reading the result of city’s corruption correctly then they (the owners) built a squad of players by deceit and hiding payments.
It goes back to Mancini by all accounts and covers the seasons that involved Arsene Wenger as well as Emery and Arteta.
Yes, they did have better players, but how did they get them and pay for them?
The same goes for the managers of course.
The foundations of this city dynasty has been established on lies, corruption, cover ups and cheating every other club that came across city since 2008 and the real point your missing (in my opinion) is that the club is still benefitting from it today, simply because they have been able to attract the very best players from cheating so successfully off the pitch.
I think every trophy they’ve won from when they were taken over until last season should be erased from the history books because they were achieved by cheating…..pure and simple.
Then let the REAL punishment from the authorities begin!!!
it won’t though
it will cover the period they were investigated for
from a selfish point of view I be happy with a massive points deduction that helps us in the title race
Dan,
It’s a tricky one this regards the punishment that could be dished out to City.
I hear you regards giving City a massive points deduction, but that begs the question how many seasons does that cover.
If it’s one season that doesn’t seem enough for the years that they’ve been cheating. If that were to happen it just wouldn’t seem enough as far as I’m concerned.
Now I don’t think this will happen and I’ll be astonished if it does, but they should be demoted like Rangers were in Scotland. I think it was two divisions if my memory serve’s me correctly.
And Rangers had to work their way back up. That’s what needs to happen to City, make them work their way up, and who knows they may even then appreciate how privileged they should feel playing in the Premier League.👍
I think City off record will say we will accept this and won’t appeal
if the sanctions are too heavy they will appeal and drag this on
I be happy with a points deduction which essentially relegates them
if you want to strip them of titles fine but you can’t award trophies to others
plus is the juice worth the squeeze?
Ken1945,
I agree with all that you said.
The only thing I will add is I personally don’t want the titles handed to us or the other teams who missed out on the league.
We weren’t good enough to win it on the pitch, regardless of what City did. For me that would represent a hollow victory.
But stripping City of all the Cups in that period would be poetic justice, and then as you say Ken1945, then let the real punishment begin. 👍
Thanks DEREK. The punishment should be commensurate to heal the wounds of the victims in this case affected clubs, fans, youth, the league, broadcasters, genuine investors.
It’s not about the past only; deter cheatings in the future.
Heavy penalties happened in other leagues why not in England?
Wenger could have won that elusive 2018 League Cup trophy to decorate his farewell
but that’s why this doesn’t work because how would we know that ?
Next time someone says we could go unbeaten and you say no, I’ll be thinking of your post above
good try but you miss my point lol
we can’t be awarded the league cup because Man City beat us in the final because what about the teams they beat in earlier rounds ?
👍 Derek
I don’t think I’m being too dramatic when I say this is the biggest scandal in world football!!
If they aren’t stripped of every trophy their fans will still be able to claims they won four PL titles in a row, the only PL club ever to do it.
The same goes for their one and only CL trophy, won by cheating!!
How chelsea must be patting themselves on the back by cooperating!!
doesn’t apply for all those season though
and I can think of bigger scandals
even if City keeps titles it’s tainted so In a sense who cares
Interesting Dan- please enlighten me on bigger scandals than this one.
As for keeping the titles, perhaps you haven’t heard chelsea chanting they’ve won it all while cheating and city 115 bragging about winning the PL four times in a row while cheating?
Anyway I’m waiting for your scandals that have had a bigger effect than this one Dan👍
but who cares mate if we know and they know it’s tainted
as for bigger scandals
what happened in Italy was bigger
what owners including ours tried to do with the Super League was scandalous
cases of racism have been more serious
Hillsborough abd Heystel were worse
If you say so Dan.
You what have your suggestions got to do with it? Nothing I’d say. Different altogether
well not really
he asked name a bigger scandal in football
what happened in Italy involved more clubs
I have just read an article festuring Mike Dean who was the referee in the city/qpr game that saw city win the PL in the last minute of extra time 3-2.
Dean is backing Wayne Rooney’s suggestion that “something fishy “ was going on during the game…..what is it they say about opening Pandoras Box?
Someone has also suggested that Mr Oliver might be worth looking into after what was deemed to be unfavourable decisions against city opponents and his all expenses first class trip to referee in the UAR.
The other suggestion was that Mikel Arteta was assistant manager at city when this was going on….it seems the lid has really been blown off the tin!!
It’s all happening out there and we haven’t even had the sentence revealed regarding those charged yet!!
“festuring Mike Dean”. A Freudian slip, Ken?
👍 Jax
Ken1945,
If Arteta gets dragged into this, does this mean we’re going to get stripped of out title?. 😂🤣
Who knows Derek?
As I say the box is opened!!
Ken1945,
Can I just say regards Chelsea and their so-called cooperating. They only cooperated because they were about to outed anyway.
Its easy to cooperate when you’re going to get caught anyway.
Derek, are you sure about Chelsea “about to be outed”? My understanding was that when Todd Boehly conducted due diligence when purchasing Chelsea, they uncovered the misdoings of the previous administration and went straight to the Premier League & self-reported.
I understand that also Jax. But I am sure someone would have eventually rumbled them further down the line. But the owners (Boelly) did it, hoping it would be just a slap on the wrist, if they showed up the Abramovich era.
Reggie, yeah, all things considered, the punishment was fair.
Jax and Reggie,
My apologies regarding the Chelsea outing. I will be having serious words with my source.😂👍
Yellow card Derek.
The biggest losers in this ironically are Manchester United. They were denied two league titles and one year Champions league football, by the cheating by City owners and people who ran the club. BUT you can not take the titles from them. Its hollow and its all hollow whatever you do. There should be asterisks against all trophies City won, meaning they were won illegally. They should never be given any credit in history books or records, it should be ignored as a feat. BUT all teams in the prem, those years should be able to sue City for loss of titles, positions in leagues and potential revenue loss. City have been sqeaky clean this last 8 years and whatever anyone thinks or says, Peps years are safe. The punishment should be off the scale in points and fines and should be over more than one season because the cheating was over more than one season and they STILL deny they have done anything wrong. As in law, they should be dealt harder because they didn’t admit guilt. The big problem is, as usual its the fans that will suffer. They didn’t want the owners to cheat. BUT if you have owners/board like City have, then you are at the mercy of the club being run like it was. Sad but City could end up with nothing more than a club like Blackburn. The people who run the club, have created an absolute monster, in more ways than one.
Reggie, I take your point regarding city115 fans and it’s a really excellent issue to bring up.
If we were to be presented with the same scenario tomorrow none of us would be to blame for what’s gone on.
But what is turning me against some of their fans, is their denial that this has happened!!
Ken1945,
I even heard a City fan today when questioned, said and I quote, they can’t relegate us were to big for that.
The height of arrogance right there, and I for one hope his words come back to bite him.
I don’t think they will be relegated but they could get a massive points deduction that could force a relegation, or at least finish nowhere. I wonder also what it does for European football because it all spills over. But a one season punishment is nowhere near enough. I also think there could be a transfer ban for a few years, of sorts.
You will always get that ken (at any club) and some are probably in denial. But the true fans have been kicked in the stomach and will suffer, when THEY don’t deserve it. Its embarrassing and people react in different ways. But City fans are in for a rough ride. City will get called cheats and liars from the stand everytime they play. BUT lets remember that could be any club. We all put our faith in the owners and board and we hope they run the job properly. We have no control at all.
I do not think there is any respect for City or the people behind it BUT I wonder if out of respect (all though nothing to do with him) wether Pep was one of the reasons this has took SOOOOOO long to come to this. It was strange he wasn’t talking about leaving, in fact the opposite and within a few days, he announced he was going. And did he have a word with Rodri? There was a bit of ship jumping by Pep reliables. Pep must have been tipped off.
Reggie, iirc, Pep’s backroom staff quit the week before he said he was leaving. I did think at the time that he knew what was coming.
I just think, Pep was huge for the prem, he wasn’t involved, I think someone tipped him off to go before the shit hit the fan. It would have been shocking for the best manager in the world to be associated with all this coming up. He didn’t deserve to be around, with this coming out.
Reggie, Pep was once questioned way back by some media hound about this investigation, and he said that if he suspected that City was involved in illegal activities, he’d leave immediately. Took him long enough.
100% perfect HD. Appreciate!
i watched the full England v Spain game. All the 3 City players in Oreilly Guehi Anderson were really below par to say the least. Is it the after effects of the City scandal? Players obviously discuss in the camp
amba, they must be feeling really crap.
Jax it seems like that. We’ll ride the title this season; one horse race from Week 6 onwards?
Jax,
Next fixture is City at Anfield. Will the Anfield crowd taunt City players with some chosen words verbally and with signs?
amba, I’m looking forward to that game. The only better one would be gainst United, but the Anfield crowd hate all things Manchester.
Appreciate THE ARSENAL and its leaders for making the club a clean well safe run club. Proud of your integrity!
they broke rules in the Super League
trust me had they done that that would have not been intergrity
Then like the rest of the PL clubs that were invited into the SL they quickly withdrew. Totally different to Man City who charges where spread of many years.
All the examples Dan gave were totally different to what city115 have done HD.
Managers, pundits, players and fans from across the country are commenting on the depth of corruption involved and the cover up planned.
The proposed Super League was dead and buried within a few days – the clubs involved dealt with and no other club was affected, no trophies tainted and no managers, players or referees questioned as to their involvement .
the notion of SL is never a crime. It’s aimed to create a balanced competition not to extinguish the existing competition and create a dynasty which is the sinister plot of City is. More than 20 clubs were involved in SL and not behind the screen. Totally different lol
I watched Guardiola with a blue shirt when he played for an Italian team Brescia which is now liquidated after persistent financial irregularities and scandals. Italian job
One or two people are overlooking the complications of awarding the league title to whichever clubs came second to City, and shuffling up every other team, including relegated ones, during those City-winning years.
Best to asterisk them and hit them hard with paralysing punishments.
I can’t wait until their next game at Anfield on Oct 11.
yeah lots of fans are saying what they want to happen not what will happen
There is zero pressure from other clubs to be awarded trophies as it impacts them if you hurt the brand any further
Dan, I wonder what might happen in the event of City winning the PL title this season😱, assuming that they’re still there to win it.
And you’ve just written an article on what you want to happen Dan!!
Who says there is no pressure from ither clubs?
Suggest you read what Pullis thinks should happen as an example?
