Will Arsenal haggle themselves out of two key transfers?

Arsenal are believed to be playing hard-ball in their pursuits of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jonny Evans.

Dortmund don’t appear to be backing down from their strong stance as they demand the Gunners to break their club-record transfer for their star striker, and have even moved to name him in their squad for the weekend.

With deadline day set on Monday, time is ticking swiftly as we attempt to wrap up our dealings, and I can’t help but worry that we may well end up without any more deals, or worse, end up signing players last-minute who are destined to fail.

Jonny Evans is also high on our wishlist, and with Manchester City having pulled out of the race in order to move for Aymeric Laporte instead, we are believed to be leading the race for his signature. We are yet to offer enough to persuade West Brom to accept however, with the Baggies claimed to be in want of £27 Million, but manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he is available.

‘Jonny is still at the football club and we haven’t had a bid put to us that is anywhere near acceptable,’ Pardew said.

‘We’ve had a couple of enquiries of what we would be looking for, and the answer has been “we’re not going to tell you”. You make a bid and you’ll get some gauge.

‘What I will confirm is what you already know, Jonny Evans is a target for other clubs, we might sell if the price is right, that’s that deal, everything else is pure speculation.’

Surely Arsenal won’t allow themselves to fail in another transfer window? Can we afford to not add both a striker and a defender this month?

  1. But Johnny Evans who’s 30, comes and becomes a deadwood as he already is, get stuck with him and Wenger rewarding some new contracts to him. Why not buy young and versatile defenders? Why buy 30 year old Man U reject just like Sylvester?

    1. Both are good players but to me this won’t be money well spent at all.Take a critical look at it for yourself.

  2. Yes I’m just waiting for it to happen……….
Although I’m not bothered about Evans, but I would like Aubameyang!!!

    1. Auba is done 100% but Evans likely to be in the summer since his release clause will be £3m if WBA get relegated.
      100% sure.

      1. Kev we have had all these fake people on here before pretending they have sources and everyone has turned out to be a complete lie what makes you any different?

      2. Oh God not again!!! Someone should gag this guy and throw him in a sewer please, he’ll have more than enough of his sh!ts down there

        1. @Eddy Hoyte
The greatest beauty of democracy, is also its worst component: the freedom of speech.

This is what @kev or @resource or both enjoy.

    2. But don’t you think that if Wenger and Arsenal really wanted Aubameyang they would stump up the money and get it over and done with, so that he can get integrated into the team before our next game, or as usually happens we loose him, and Wenger will spout the usual claptrap “We tried, but couldn’t reach an agreement”. I think we should also be looking for a new manager in this transfer window, what do other readers think?

      1. Yeah I agree. What other leading club, with a clear run for a top class player haggles over a few million quid. They want a player, they buy him, but not Arsenal. Arsenal haggle while other clubs act with authority. But then we’re quickly becoming something other than a top club anyway, unfortunately. If we don’t buy Aubameyang its a clear indication of complete acceptance of what we have become………….

  3. Starting to get fed up with this rumour. If Auba had a sell on value for being 24 or something, he’d be worth allot more than 70m euro in this market. Alexis was a similar price before his contract went to the last year. I do feel Dortmund should come down slightly but am more inclined to agree with them, we done same thing with Lacazette and had to wait til following season to get him. Even Holding we would not pay the asking price I think it was a million pound difference. We could be looking at other targets in important areas but instead we will go to the last day and last hours to see who blinks first.

    1. Aubameyang is done 100% but maybe not according to media only behind the scenes.I decided to share news this time only if I was 100% sure.Hold me on my word for this. The guy will come latest by Monday or even before and will earn £170,000 a week.
Johnny Evans won’t be done until probably summer.I might be wrong on his case though.
I’m 100% sure and no jokes or fooling around.

      1. If Aubameyang comes on Monday to Arsenal, why is he included in Dortmund’s squad against Freiburg today?

I hope he really joins, because his physical attributes and skills remind me of Van Persie’s. But this is too good to be true, since Arsenal is notorious in making fake interests like Suarez’s and Lemar’s cases (Wenger promised to go back for him in January, but nothing happens till today).

        1. More like a farewell match .Whether he’ll actually start is another question.Sanchez was also included in the squad to face Crystal Palace but not the starting lineup just so you know.Hold me on my word for this.100% sure it’s done.No jokes.

            1. Farewell match actually sounds like something Dortmund would do. We had one but I can’t remember which player it was, not Henry although some might say that was a little like one.

        2. What I mean is Sanchez didn’t make the final squad but was included in the long list of players in the squad if you get me?

        3. Lemar prices escalate to 90m…even liverfool is hesitating….

          90m for 18yo Mbappe is a yes

but 90m is too much for a limited experience 22yo who is not as good as Mbappe…..

  4. Can somebody explain to me why we need Johnny Evans. Is he better than what we already have?. I’d suggest in Kos, Mus and Nacho we have 3 very good defenders who can play centre back with chambers, holding and the new lad as ample back up. I think the problem is a lack of a solid DM and defensive coaching

    1. Completely agree. Evans is a good player but not a noticeable improvement in what we have. We already have veterans in BFG and Kos to mentor Holding, Chambers and new guy. Evans will only stunt their development. A DM in the mould of Elneny (but better) who can slip into a back three is what we needed. If one iset available in this window then keep our powder dry. Xhaka should be in the mix further up field.

  5. Just pay the money and get on with it.
If it doesn’t happen then that’s two embarrassing windows in a row Lemar and Aubameyang innit

  6. For those wondering whether the Aubameyang deal is done or not I can confirm for all of you that the deal is a done deal.I decided not to say anything about transfers until 100% sure.He will earn £170,000 a werk and he’s due for his mefical latest by Monday.
As for Johnny Evans he will have a £3m release clause if West Brom get relegated and news coming in is that we’ll wait and make the move for him.
Aubameyang id done 100% but not so sure on Johnny Evans.
You people can hold me on my word for this.
These two signings will be good but when I fake a closer look I ask myself if the money is being spent wisely.

  7. I’m still hopeful we can get Aubameyang and Moura and get rid of Ramsey. For me if we arrange our attacking well enough, we dont need to add for defense just yet. Defense is bad but when you have Kolasinac and Bellerin as wingbacks and you have given them license to join attack every other time, the three CBs are also invited to attack and so is Xhaka and Wilshere. There is not defensive discipline. Of course they will be caught out and we shall concede and our attacks will be second rate.

With a strong attack they can stay put in defense and only come out in unique situations like set-pieces and also when i golden opportunity presents itself. We get Auba and if we arrange 3.5.2 this is what we can have…

Lacazette(Left Wing Forward) – not just playing centre forward but exploring the opportunities off the left wing.
Aubameyang (Right Wing Forward) – not just playing centre forward but exploring the opportunities off the Right wing.

Ramsey/Moura – Right leaning Attacking Midfielder, Mkhitaryan (Centrally placed Attacking Midfielder), Ozil (Left Leaning if Ramsey remains but if Moura is brought in and Ramsey is let to go, then he operates from the more familiar -Right leaning attacking midfielder)

Xhaka and Wilshere hold the anchorage. And they can attack but responsibly.

Any three most disciplined players in the squad for defense picked from Mustafi, Koscienly, Bellerin, Kolasinac,

    ——–Lacazette————————-Aubameyang——–
    —————Moura—-Mkhitaryan——Ozil—————–
    ———————Xhaka———Wilshere——————-
    ———-Kolasinac———-Koscienly———Mustafi——–
    ————————–Cech——————————-

  8. A tall and pacey striker like Aubameyang would be a great addition, but it would be better if Arsenal can get an explosive, skillful, agile, brave and speedy inverted winger like Salah, Mane, Sterling, Sane or Rashford. Rashford was dazzling as a central forward last night, he often dropped deep to get the ball from the midfield area, was very brave to take on the opponent’s defenders and produced a lot of good flicks for his teammates.

Reiss Nelson sucked when he played as an inverted winger in the left side, in his last match. He could not beat his markers and looked awkward as a left forward, but I hope he can improve gradually like Maitland-Niles.

    1. What we really really need is to take Xhaka out of our lineup and bring in a proper DM.The guy is so average but how people can’t seeit i beyond me.At times you watch him and you wonder what he really brings to the team overall. Will people debate that if Maitland-Niles was given the same chances at CM both last season and this season he wouldn’t have done better?

      1. spot on 132 sideways passes a game, anytime he passes forward he loses it. so average its embarrassing. as for elneny nice person good div 1 player that’s it

        1. Elneny is a good bench option. He should not be sold.We just needhim for rotation and it’s likely he’ll accept that.I just don’t really see anything about Xhaka. If only Maitland-Niles was given his chance he would’ve improved at his position so much better. We’re wasting the guy because of an average player.

      2. Have been saying this about xhaka for some time but maitland niles snt the answer …way to fragile defensively … If we don’t bring anyone else in I would try elneny with wilshere … Not that he is a long term solution just more disciplined

  9. Gabriel was a flop and we
lost 7 mill on the sale.
    Mertz is retiring-No resale value.
Koz is injury prone -no resale value.
Mustafi cost a whopping 41 mill and is not worth half that.
So the club has to buy cheap CB replacements
like Holding 2m and Mavropanos 3m.
WBA quote 35 mill for Evans.
So Arsenal offers dead wood Debuchy and 10 mill.
WBA counter buy demanding Chambers and 20 mill cash 🙁
In the summer Man City offered 60 mill for Sanchez
but Arsene demanded 90 mill. and Cit pulled out.
So Sanchez sulked for 6 months and refused to extend his contract.
In the end Arsenal had to accept a straight swap no cash deal.
Debuchy is worthless, Gibbs went for 7 m Le Coqu for 12m
Perez will go for a loss while Cazorla has zero resale value.
Only Chamberlain 40 mill was profitable with Walcott’s low
20 mill sale being offset by his ridiculous salary now off our books.
Signing a 29 year old Auba for 60 mill who will be worth beggar all
in 3 years time seems absurd especially when we have just
signed 50 m Lacazette and still have Giroud Wellbeck and Perez!!!
Dortmund want 60 mill so Arsenal offer 30 mill plus 32 yr old Giroud.
Dortmund feel totally eidiculed so now demand 70 mill for Auba
and offer a one year only 1.5 mill loan offer for Giroud.
And so it goes on 🙁

    1. “In the summer Man City offered 60 mill for Sanchez
but Arsene demanded 90 mill. and Cit pulled out.
So Sanchez sulked for 6 months and refused to extend his contract.”

Check your facts before posting will you?
AFC accepted the £60 million and we put a £90 million bid on Lemar which failed and then we pulled out of selling Alexis as we couldn’t get a replacement.

  10. Ozil has not resigned yet
and can go on a free in June.
    Sanchez is being paid at
    least 400k p/w at United.
Ozil is equally as good as Sanchez so
Ozils agent will be demanding 400k p/w minimum.
Even Wenger recently said 1 mil per week is not far away.
To avoid another Sanchez swap no cash debacle
will Arsenal sanction a 400k p/w 4 year deal for Ozil?
If not they have 4 days to find a buyer who will stump
up the 120 mill Arsenal will no doubt demand 🙂

  11. This Aubameyang ‘transfer’ has got the whiff of Benzema all over it. Dangle the carrot of an exciting player to the press, keep stirring the pot until the end of January, the player doesn’t move and all the fans whinge and moan but soon forget as we seek top 6 status in the coming months.

The longer our club plays this outrageous transfer game, the less likely top players will come to us.

Meanwhile, City pay silly money for a defender…

  12. What do followers of justarsenal think of utilizing Kolasinac as a DM? He appears to have been forgotten by Wenger and would allow him to be played in front of Monreal, Mustafi, Kos and Bellerin proving protection if Monreal and Bellerin raid down the wings.

    1. Monreal and Sead as LB, that gives us competition and cover.
Please do not risk injuring them both in the same game and be left with playing a DM in LB role, AMN has done admirably but he could be so much more replacing ElNeny in the CM 3.

  13. Why buy players like Jonny Evans who has clearly past his best, played the majority of his football, that 10 years at Arsenal main rival and enemy Manchester United, and is still committed in helping Manchester United resurrect their past dominance in the League.

That underline what Arsenal football club has becomes under Mr Wenger a little joke club with no direction.

  14. Well said Kev ‘re Xhaka .The same applies to Mustafi. While Evans is better than our current crop of centre backs he is getting on and tends to be injury prone.£25m is too much.Go for Manolas in the summer window, offering Xhaka and Mustafi in exchange.
