The real issue with us Arsenal fans is false hope

Arsenal deserve the Europa league. If Wenger thinks it’s a disaster, he should leave. by Konstantin Mitov

Hello everybody! Now hoping that West Ham will save Arsenal’s abysmal season is just pathetic and I’m sorry I ever believed there was a slight chance this could happen, especially after we beat them 3:0 in our worst form! You see, the real issue with us Arsenal fans is false hope.

We get fake promises that something will change. We’ll spend money, we’ll compete next year and what happens every time? The only good thing about this season is the fact it ends soon. And after it ends it’ll probably drag another month or two before we get any idea what is going on.

Worst thing is Wenger will stay. He will devalue the Champions League, the trophy he sacrificed domestic cups so many times in an attempt to win, because it’s not about trophies, it’s about having absolute power, which he has here. He’ll probably say that now people will appreciate the champions league once it’s gone, in the same matter he said that the fact Liverpool haven’t won the title for almost 30 years, doesn’t mean they aren’t a big club.

But truth is, that they aren’t and they haven’t attracted the best players for a long time. Same thing will happen to us now. Unlike United though, we won’t spend 200 million in an attempt to crawl back to success, but if you believe that we will, it just strengthens the point I made about falling for false expectations.

But the top 4 has been both a blessing and a curse, because our season was all about making it and then what? We never went big in an attempt to compete with the best of Europe. We just make the top 4 and we sit stale afterwards. No plans for the future. It’s like surviving until your next salary. While you have the job it’s all good, but once it’s gone, you have nothing to support your high standard so you lose it.

But what’s worse is that the whole future of the club is given to the hands of one man, who is clearly incapable of managing it. There is nothing to be excited about next season. We are in jeopardy regarding the future of the most important people at the club and the board has managed the situation terribly. I’m not sure it could be worse than the way they do absolutely nothing.

Rumours suggested Ivan wants to introduce change, but is he really? Cause if he is, he is the CEO, he should be number 2 after the owner and he should be able to call a decision or at least be strong enough to inform the owner things aren’t alright. And the way Arsene spoke about a director of football, which can basically apply to every person interfering with his job spoke volumes.

We won a bunch of games against average opposition with priorities elsewhere like the Europa league or the beach and people suddenly thought yeah, we’ll make the top 4 and win the FA cup, but they forgot it doesn’t work like this. We need massive changes, this football club hasn’t seen in a very long time.

I said before that if Arsene stays, I’m not watching the games anymore until he leaves and I stick by my predicament. Giving him an extension can only be explained with madness and his loyalty and stubbornness wouldn’t allow him to make the changes required to the backroom staff and the players that are just not good enough for us and failed us under pressure for so many years.

Wenger had a dig at West Ham players for giving it easy to Liverpool, but he should only blame himself for the fact he left Sanchez out of the squad when we went to Anfield and the fact that from January till mid April it looked like the players didn’t care at all.

I’ll finish with the fact that the protests, the fights between fans and the overall taste in our mouths after this season is like nothing before. Points wise, we’ll finish, where we usually do, a little above 70, but this time, the other teams are not as bad as they were and now people will see that we were never really that good, but others were just as bad if not worse.

The squad and the backroom staff, the manager and the board need a massive overhaul to change something. We’ll get none of this I fear, but it’s a summer for massive decisions and brave personnel to take them.

  1. this has to be the best article ive read on this site for quite some time , well done sir. there are an awful lot of people on here who feel exactly the same , but are actually afraid to voice their opinions for fear of being verbally attacked . some people are more equal than others on here it appears to me , this has crept into this site and it is very unfortunate for all . the author of this fine article has nailed it in my opinion, and has certainally put my thoughts into words. thank you for a wonderfully honest piece. like the author ,i too will be abandoning the arsenal for the duration of wengers extended stay . in my opinion , wenger is a cancer that we cannot get rid of , sadly , for arsenal , when le fraud does decide to leave , i fear it may be too late for the club. it is going to take arsenal years to recover from this dictators reign, sad times ahead for our wonderful club.

    1. Relax man, it’s never that serious. We waited 10 years for the stadium debt to be finished and Wenger to start spending. I think we can wait the 4 more years he said he wants to keep managing at Arsenal. All we can do is hope that at the end of the 4 years he will actually keep his word and step down because let’s face it, he is the one who decides when he leaves at Arsenal.

  2. Recent articles on Just Arsenal have quoted Wenger saying:

    – The club’s leadership won’t change
    – The club’s transfer policy won’t change
    – It will be bitter to miss-out on 4th place by one point
    – Things will be different next season.

So the current plan for Arsenal is to do exactly the same things as before, but expect to get different results somehow. Madness!

  3. I totally concur with mr Constantin. The Arsenal board are not planning, they are only experts in feeding the fans with false hope. A board that cannot look Arsene Wenger in the face and tell him the bitter truth has nothing to expect than failure. Some Arsenal fans themselves are not helping matters, these lots are beclouded with the past glory of Arsene some 14 years ago. Wenger can no longer perform, the fan has the right to demand that he leaves because with the dynamics of the current atmosphere, he can no longer effect any meaningful changes, and CHANGE is exactly what our football club need right now.

  4. A year later, we will mourn just like we are doing now simply because Wenger will still find a way to mess things up, bottle everything and come up with an excuse. It’s tiring..

In real life, you don’t expect to get result by doing same thing. Then wonder why some fans don’t see this as a problem and are always happy with top four.

I saw the game against stoke with an arsenal fan. I told him Wenger should leave after the end of the season. He said no, Wenger should leave. That Arsenal won’t survive if he leaves. I smiled and said.. Before Wenger Arsenal was, so please it’s time to go. I am a huge Wenger fan but he is tarnishing his legendary status right now.

FA cup final victory and Wenger resigns is what I want but doubt that will happen.

  5. Konstatin, you have a very convincing argument there. And a really honest and realistic take on state of things.

The Arsenal fanbase has some of the most fickle minded bunch you’d ever come across -lose a game and its “Wenger out”, win the next one and its “Wenger in all the way”.

Their beliefs, preferences, opinions and “long-term views” changes from game to game.

  6. “But the top 4 has been both a blessing and a curse, because our season was all about making it and then what? We never went big in an attempt to compete with the best of Europe. We just make the top 4 and we sit stale afterwards.”

This has to be most truest assessment of the club. The reason why people want to see the club genuinely try for something better/higher.

  7. The definition of Insanity. DOING THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS. Arsenal football club is insane. I too will not be waking up all hours off the night anymore to watch this crap until Wenger is gone. Being an Arsenal fan in Australia is hard work. With the time difference and all. I pray this is his last season but I’m afraid that’s not gonna happen just a pipe dream.

    #NO NEW CONTRACT

  8. Nice Article, as per (Konstantin) usual ?

But the real issue is ?? this is nothing New!
The only difference is… The Wenger trophy is in real danger of slipping through our fingers and that’s what’s making things more harder to swallow ?? Psychology, things seem worse than what they are when the minimum standards haven’t been met.

I still have faith that GroundHog will find a way! To save our day! ??

    1. In other words ? were ? and we as fans are more delusional than the Manager himself, for believing that we could be anything above the standards of ??.

      In general, we are:
      Solid ??
      Weak&Runny??
      Log sized ??
      Pea sized ??
Loud fart, with follow through ??

  9. Good article Konstantin!!

Meanwhile, the cycle continues, Wenger is laying the groundwork for this summer’s transfer window coming out and saying his squad is big enough and that he doesn’t need a bigger squad. Same story every summer.

Don’t expect an overhaul of the squad. In fact, I would be willing to bet £20 that Wenger will stay and both Ramsey and Giroud will play in the opening game of next season (bar injury to either).

  10. “I said before that if Arsene stays, I’m not watching the games anymore until he leaves and I stick by my predicament.” – Hallelujah! Now if you can also stop posting the same garbage on the daily basis here, I’ll be a happy camper, and so are most of us I’m sure.

    1. Seems to me like most people agree with the author here… Enjoy Europa League next season

      1. You won’t be watching? Come on, that’s where the party is. Seriously though, I hate it when people say they don’t and won’t watch the games until Wenger is gone. Do you support the manager, or the club? Regardless of how I feel about Wenger, I watch every single Arsenal game, and I want them to win every single one.

  11. Perfect article. I hope without C’League Arsenal does not get to fill their stands, we are the club that ask the highest for season ticket!

Whoever comes in for Wenger(I hope someone does), gets to keep most players, prioritize only EPL, win a top 4 spot, invest in top talent, clear the dead wood (Carzola/Sanogo will leave, sell Debuchy and Per, even Ozil) to make the wage bill lean and thin, buy good youth prospects and invest the money in Alexis contract, and Giroud replacement
