Will Diarra shine in second spell at Arsenal?

The first time that Arsene Wenger signed Lass Diarra for Arsenal was on transfer deadline day back in August 2007, as Chelsea knew that he would be able to leave on a free transfer a few months later. This time, if the Arsenal transfer rumour in the Daily Express is correct, the Frenchman will sign the combative midfielder even later.

The 29-year old former Real Madrid star is not a free agent exactly, he is still under contract with Lokomotiv Moscow, but Arsenal can get around the transfer restrictions to sign him, apparently, as he has fallen out with the club’s management and so has not been registered with the Russian League.

Diarra can play at right back as well, but if Arsenal do sign him, it will surely be for his defensive midfield abilities and he could prove to be a real boost for us this season. However, his last spell at the club did not last too long because the emergence of Mathieu Flamini meant his opportunities were limited and he really wanted to play regularly at that age.

He went on to do really well at Portsmouth and earn himself a dream move to La Liga with Madrid where he played a lot for three seasons before being sold as they were overloaded in that area. I wonder what would have happened had we kept hold of him before, but I think it would be a great move for Arsenal to bring him back now and give him the chance to show us.     1. Just watched some his latest highlights for the Russian club he fell out with.

      He is faster than Arteta and Flamini
      Stronger…
      Can dribble the ball better
      Obviously can defend…
      Has scored some beauty’s in his short time there (I mean scorchers)

      Not our long term answer…but def an improvement…

    1) be 6ft 2 or over
    2) a monster
    3) a destroyer
    4) most important of all.. Black.

    Why not go for heavyweight boxer anthony joshua? 6ft 7 !! , 235 pounds! And black!!

        1. To get to the point we simple need more power and height in the team. We are a team full of midgets ( i am one to) and weaklings. De Jong would be a fine player for Arsenal.

            1. I am from SA too, as I suppose Zulu-Boy is too. Unfortunately here in SA, as soon as one mentions skin-tone in any way or form, it becomes a racial issue.
              For example, I was playing soccer against a black team (I am white), made a bad tackle which I apologised for, I had to leave the field because I was touted as a racist. Bad mentality here. So please excuse Zulu-Boy!

  4. I detest the lack of professionalism and appreciation being shown to the DM at Arsenal.

    To go from Vieira, Gilberto, Petit as shielding players to Arteta, Flamini, and possibly a washed up Diarra, is lunacy. No wonder we get steamrolled by top teams, there’s an open invitation to our back two…one of which has no mobility. There’s a reason Kos is the boss to us all, he’s the only one capable physically.

    I love Alexis so far, but a bigger improvement would have come if we paid 30-odd mil for Vidal and started Joel Campbell (or Vela) where Alexis plays now.

    Priorities are backwards as f*ck. Well I guess we don’t pay top dollar, or have a pile of cash reserves to improve the team….wait a minute… #amateurish

    1. Cheers Charlie, I agree but we are where we are, now what do we do at least until January. I say take a punt on Lassana, he will probably cost us about 30-49k per week and can most probably be a better DM then Arteta and Flamini.

      It is criminal that Arsene did not address that position and central Defense in this transfer window but, like I said we are where we are, how do we salvage something, anything?

      I say we get s Defender and a DM from free transfer and hope for the best.

      1. Agreed Jim. But it’s a bandaid approach that makes us look ridiculous in all honesty. And you can mention January, but that window is there simply for relegation battlers to throw the dice one last time – big business/players don’t move mid season for eligibility reasons etc. O have zero faith we will buy a DM in Jan.

        I’d wouldn’t bother taking Lass, I don’t think he’s an improvement on the two we have. He was good first time round, but so was Flamini. Time has passed to improve the first 11, you’re only gonna fill the squad with backups and quickfixes at this stage and I’m livid that 4 games into the league we are taking such steps. What a ride these fools running the club are taking us for.

      Ever been drunk on a night out? Then you get hungry. But this is no regular hunger. You don’t just eat a hearty meal. No sir! You make the wrong culinary choice. You go for the all bells and whistles shizzle that looks good but ain’t going to provide you nutritional value or make you feel good when the shizzle in your system is done.

      That is our squad. Looks good at the time but by the end of the game you feel sick and just want to go to bed.

        United wanted our third choice CB and would kill for a CB of mert or kos’s quality but we’ll conveniently gloss over that point. Even chambers at CB in his third favoured position would be a huge upgrade for their defence…
        Yes they have an abundance of quality in attack but it’s still yet to be seen if and when they’ll gel..
        I f&@king love our squad though!! And with so many players like welbeck, Walcott, Sanchez, Campbell, oxlade and sanogo all ready to take their game to the next level and be part of a new look exciting attack I wouldn’t have it any other way…
        But by all means guys, jump on the not good enough bandwagon while looking over at a struggling united!! Hey? If they can beat QPR they must be good!!

      Actually I got an issue too. On my phone, it is blocking me on LTE (EE) from coming to this site. It says this site is inappropraite and my network is blocking it. What kind of crazy shit is going on during the day on here?
