Crystal Palace are set to face Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK in the Europa Conference League today, with Eberechi Eze potentially featuring in the match. The attacker is on the verge of completing a transfer to Arsenal, which could be finalised in the coming hours. Despite this imminent move, he is expected to undergo his medical after the Fredrikstad fixture.
Eze played a crucial role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season, which secured their qualification for European competition. A victory over Fredrikstad would see the club advance to the league phase of the Europa Conference League, marking a significant achievement for the team. It is possible that today’s game may be Eze’s final appearance in a Crystal Palace shirt, allowing him to depart on a high note.
Cup-Tie Rules and Eze’s Eligibility
There has been speculation regarding whether participating in the Europa Conference League qualifying phase could prevent Eze from playing for Arsenal in the Champions League this season. Cup-tie regulations often restrict players from representing multiple clubs in the same UEFA competition, raising questions over his eligibility.
According to Sport Bible, however, these rules will not affect Eze. The report clarifies that UEFA distinguishes between the qualifying phase and the league phase of its competitions. Consequently, a player who competes for a club during the qualifying rounds can still participate for a different team once the league phase begins. This distinction provides reassurance for Arsenal supporters eager to see Eze make an immediate impact at his new club.

Expected Developments
Despite the clarification regarding eligibility, it is not anticipated that Eze will feature against Fredrikstad. The transfer is reportedly close to completion, and the club are likely to manage his involvement carefully to ensure a smooth transition. Nevertheless, the confirmation that playing in the qualifying phase will not hinder his Champions League participation represents positive news for both the player and his future club.
Eze’s imminent arrival underscores a period of significant transfer activity for Arsenal, with the club continuing to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season. While today’s Europa Conference League match may mark the end of his time at Palace, it is unlikely to impact his eligibility or readiness to contribute at Arsenal once the transfer is finalised.

Palace have announced that Eze’s not playing tonight. So no problems.
Palace have announced that Eze won’t be playing tonight
Phew!!! No sofa needed then
Sue,
What do you mean few, I’m gutted. I was looking forward to seeing what your sofa looked like. 😂🤣👍
🤣🤣 Damn 🤣🤣
👍Phew!!!
Yeah! Have a nice relaxing evening Sue. I might still watch the game, it’s live on 5.
Cheers Jax, you too 👍 I’ll still have a butcher’s
Just a thought, but with Eze now not playing tonight, I wonder if Arsenal will try to get the deal signed before the cutoff point for the weekend game against Leeds.
Any thoughts fellow posters.👍
It will be good if they do, Derek, as he’s ready to go that’s for sure!
Derek
Yes, I think Arsenal may well try, big boost etc., but it depends upon getting the last bits and bobs (to use a technical term) tied up. We’ll just have to sit back and see.
Derek, when’s the cut-off point? His medical is tomorrow, so he only gets one day, which won’t really be enough, unless he makes a very late subs appearance.
Jax,
To be honest I can’t claim to know the cut-off point for definite. But I believe it’s noon before said match day if I’m not mistaken.
And I saw a report on Sky, that Eze isn’t at the game tonight let alone in the team. So if that’s the case, then maybe he’s having a medical this evening. In the event that it’s taking place, then maybe tomorrow the pen can be put to paper and the deal is done. Here’s hoping.🤞👍
You’re right, Derek the cut-off point is midday today.
Jax,
I notice the time of your post. Don’t you ever sleep. 😂👍
Yeah, I was a bit late today. .
Spurs fans are going nuts on every social media platforms concerning arsenal hijacking of eze😆.
Am so happy we got our boy back😃. Can wait to see him in the arsenal colors destroying Spurs when we meet. The tears😭 in their eyes watching him rip them apart😱
Next is take rodrygo or malick fofana on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season😏. Move martinelli upfront to compete with gyokeres for the striker role. He martinelli might surprise us all playing well there than on the wing. I have always have these feeling that CF is the best position for him.
Yes, they are certainly making a fuss – mainly directed at Chairman Levy.
Interestingly, there’s was a report a little earlier that Spurs are moving towards signing an alternative … Rodrygo. Don’t know how accurate that is, but if it is I doubt Levy will want to be seen failing twice.
Can just imagine those poor Spuds fans not taking it too well.
Can’t wait to see that nimble feet lad myself running at defense
Bertie,
Maybe Arsenal are planning to do the same with Rodrygo, let the spuds think they’ve got him. And then Wham in we step again. They say lightening never strikes twice. Or doe’s it?. 🤣😂👍
OT. I’m reading on various usually reliable sources that Martinelli is wanted in the Saudi Arabian league for £80 million.
Well, if that ever came about it would be – on purely financial terms – a big boost for Arsenal.
That said, at 24 years old is it likely Martinelli would consider Saudi at this stage of his career? Clearly wages would be an incentive, but to go to a pretty insubstantial league compared to Europe, albeit a hugely wealthy one, in your mid-twenties?
Yeah, well perhaps they want him, but he won’t want them. He still has decent career with Arsenal.
It’s an interesting point that you make Bertie. It seems to me that some players head off to Saudi Arabia, do a 2 year stint, make stacks of money and then return. I don’t see Martinelli as that type, but you never know these days. He would also be young enough to rebuild a career in the premier league
Bertie,
While I can see why they do it. There not exactly on the breadline at their current club are they to be fare. 👍
Yeh scum bag jamie Ohara who I cannot stand having a meltdown was brilliant him Adrian Duram and Richard Keys absolute numties talk absolute rubbish and should not be allowed on air so anti Arsenal it’s untrue and so unprofessional when trying to talk football in a neutral way what they are paid to do but all 3 totally pathetic and should be kicked out!
Fair points but listening to O’Hara having a meltdown was priceless
SueP,
And O’Hara was pranked in the phone in by Andy Goldstein, and fell for it hook line and sinker. 😂👍
Derek, where are you hearing all this? I’m missing out on some laughs here.
Jax,
It was on the Jason Cundy and Jamie O’ Hara show on Talk sport.
I saw it on You Tube this morning.
Come on Jax, it’s time to get on the lets all laugh at Spuds train. 😂🤣👍
Thanks Derek. I hardly listen to Talk Sport these days, so will check it out on YouTube later.
Jax
Talksport is much improved especially the weekday mornings with Jim White, Simon Jordan and good guest pundits, plus the humorous duo of Hawksbee and Jacobs directly after.
Jax,
No problem. Enjoy your viewing. 👍
I watched it on YouTube last night and thought ‘what a pair of twats,’ and thought the same of the up his own arse idiot who made the fake call. Do they get paid for that drivel?
I’m giving it a try Sue. All adverts right now🤣
Fridays are usually Sam Matterface but still better than most
Sorry Sue but I can’t agree with you on Jim White, Simon Jordan. I find Jordan a pompous Git and Jim White always backs him against Martin Keown. I do however agree that Hawksbee and Jacobs are fun.
