Wilshere gets his England dream – but it’s not good for Arsenal

Jack Wilshere has come back after years of injury problems, and his excellent performances have seen him win his place back in the Arsenal first team, but it looks like the Gunners have decided that they don’t want him any more and they offered him a new contract with a pay cut on a take it or leave it basis.

We all know Jack loves Arsenal and would hate to play for any other team, but they should have offered this deal BEFORE he regained form and fitness, and they may have had a chance of it being accepted.

But now he is playing well and is free to talk to other clubs he will have realised that he is wanted by other clubs more than Wenger wants to keep him, and going by the reaction by football pundits he is now a certainty to be going to Russia with the England team this summer and a good showing will see him offered much more money by other clubs.

We reported earlier that Martin Keown makes Wilshere a favourite to play for England this summer, and now another Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has echoed his statement. Campbell said: “I think Jack is a wonderful player.

“The only thing that has held him back is injuries and that’s such a shame, because he’s got great tenacity, great footwork and speed and knowledge.

“He’s got great drive and he’s got a good goal in him too.

“I’m pleased for him. England need that type of player who can play in tight areas and make thing happen.

“Jack needs games. He needs regular games, he needs to build up that stamina and he needs to get that rhythm going.

“If he stays fit all the way until the end of the season he should be in that squad, for sure.”

Jack’s only problem would be if he goes down with another injury, which is why Arsenal have been shy about paying him too much, but if he realises his dream to go to Russia he could command massive wages elsewhere.

Jack himself is just over the moon that he has finally got another England call-up after two years in the wilderness. “I’m happy of course,” wilshere said. “it’s been a while since I’ve been in there but I never gave up hope. I’ve been fortunate enough to represent my country a lot of times and it’s one of the best feelings in the world. I never gave up that little bit of hope, so I’m happy and it’s down to me now to repay him [Gareth Southgate].”

And if he does repay him and plays brilliantly for England now and at the World Cup, he will also force Arsenal to reconsider offering him such a derisory contract, and after being insulted like that, why shouldn’t he be looking at earning much more money elsewhere. Wenger has been much more loyal in the past and given contract extensions to many previously injured players, like Diaby, Arteta, Cazorla and van Persie, so it is a mystery why he didn’t do the same with Jack.

It looks like the Gunners have made a massive mistake and it will cost them a hell of a lot more if they try to get him to re-sign this summer….

  1. Arsenal did hire that Huss Fumey (spelling?) to deal with contracts.
Wenger wants him to stay but it looks like he has no say on the contract.

Wonder how many people will blame Wenger and ignore how AFC have a contract guy.

    1. Midkemma,
      A great point to make.
For those with an agenda, thepoint will be ignored, of that you can be certain.
Much is made about Sven, Raul and Huss and how this is part of a new era that will solve all our problems
The fact that they didn’t sign a CB or DMF has gone unnoticed it seems, or Wenger gets the blame.
I think this is starting to look like the same situation as Judas RVP.
Injured far more than they played, then come back have one good season then demand the earth or leave.
The same contract negotiation seems to be starting with Aaron Ramsey.
So let’s see if Huss is as good as we are told and if Raul and Sven sign the players Wenger has been castigated for when being unable to get the players he identified.
I really do hope these three men succeed, because that means Arsenal will succeed. But till that happens Wenger will be blamed for everything wrong with the club (some of which he does deserve I hasten to add).

    2. Jack is not as good as he used to be honestly. Love him as a gooner. But he is nothing special. Arsenal need some special players to help auba ozil and miki. Teams like city have goals from silva aguero de bryne sane sterling jesus. What does jack offer. Poor assist rate poor goal ratio and not a great cdm. Sorry he needs to go and we need either a goal scoring CM or a very creative one like santi.

      1. If he goes then what?
Are you saying he isn’t even good enough for the bench?
Why not keep Wilshere but get a better central midfielder (if he is okay with that)?

We can’t fill up our bench with world class players. We need to improve our starting lineup yes but its difficult to get better players than wilshere for the bench

    3. @Midkemma

Wenger is still to blame, because the new boys are only just starting to unravel the mess he created! I think it’ll take a fair few years to really get us out the hole that Wenger has created.

In terms of Wilshere’s contract offer, I am fully backing the board on this. If it was up idiot Wenger, easy pay raise, no clauses, 4 year deal, sorted! So glad they have offered Jack less, but fuming with the contract Ozil was given, but then again, Wenger messed around with Ozil as well, and the board almost had no choice, what with Sanchez leaving for next to nothing.

  2. Three wins on the trot against average opposition and suddenly support is pouring back for the manager. Has the poor performances and shocking defending over the season been forgotten already. I want Wenger out but I’m one of those that respect his original tenure and would like to see it done respectfully. A Europa Cup win and managerial resignation would be perfect.

    1. Kenny,
      My thoughts as well.
If it happens as we would like, then its a win win for both sides of the Wenger divide, another trophy for Arsenal and C.L. football next year.
With that in mind, I think every gooner who has a ticket should attend the games, cheer on the players and show that this club is the best in the world.
A good start against Milan, with the stands looking fuller and the crowd getting behind the team.
Just hope “the new era” is what so many think is a foregone conclusion.

      1. I was glad the stadium was fuller last night Ken… yes the crowd were very vocal.. which was good. It really p****s me off when the commentators go on & on & on about all the negatives (Gary Neville) but last night I don’t recall hearing anything & that was Robbie Savage ?
So yes hopefully we can end the season on a high & then next season we can get back to being the force we all know & love COYG

    2. IS “support pouring back for the manager”? Not in my opinion! The overwhelming majority still want him out this summer(or sooner) Three wins against average opposition fools very few. He WILL still be sacked by May.

      1. Jon Fox,
It doesn’t matter if support is pouring back or not does it?
What every Supporter at the Emirates last night wanted was to see their team win.
They got behind the players who did the business.
Judging from the response from Sue who watched it at home, that was her objective as well, as I assumed every gooner wanted.
Nobody is trying to fool anybody, everyone is enjoying a good performance and a qualification into the quarter finals.
Enjoy the moment, they did it despite Wenger (not my view by the way).
Think like that and then you can enjoy the club you support winning.

    3. Kenny, But a Europa win and then Wengers resignation will never happen. IF , which won’t happen , he did win it, that and that alone might save him from the sack. But he will have to be sacked and will never resign

  3. If Jack gets back to something like his original fitness level then yes give him a contract and a decent wage. The majority of us like jack and he loves the club, even if it’s as squad player. You’re not going to win trophies with just eleven players so why not?

  4. Give him a decent contract already!!! i mean we gave Rosicky, Diaby and Mertz good contracts despite the obvious injury problems!!

  5. Robin Vanpayslip V2.1 (now with cojones - firmware update to increase cojones to Chuck Norris levels) says:

It takes cojones to play for England. That’s why Troy has so many caps after displacing Vardy and Kane with his cojones.

And also for scoring that penalty against Arsenal.

And avoiding getting that hair in his eyes.

Anyway – the curious case of Wilshere. By now I’m wondering if android is indeed a credible alternative. But all my messages will be green instead of blue?

  6. Southgate would have been mental not to have picked Wilshere. I hope he stays with us… Arsene has said he’s wanted players to stay before, and look what happened there…..
Jack will probably get offered more money elsewhere…

  7. Has anyone else, as well as me, even thought that the reason JACK HAS NOT YET RE-SIGNED IS BECAUSE HE WANTS TO SEE WENGER GONE BEFORE WISHING TO STAY. Also Ramsey, for same reason!

    1. Jon Fox
NO, not mentioned by anyone on any post even “justarsenal”, so it seems that rumours done and dusted.
Personally I haven’t SEEN, HEARD, READ, DISCUSSED OR EVEN SEEN RUMOURS TO THAT EFFECT, even last night at the Emirates.
Still, if it’s said enough times, some people will start to believe it.
