Women’s Finalissima with Arsenal’s Williamson & Rafaelle captaining England v Brazil

Women’s Finalissima with Arsenal’s Williamson & Rafaelle captaining England v Brazil by Michelle

The women’s football international break runs from 3rd to 11th April 2023 and lot’s of our Gunners will be on international duty during that period. Arguably one of the biggest events in this window will be the Women’s Finalissima between the European Champions England and the Copa America winners Brazil. The event will be staged at Wembley on 6th April 2022 but tickets for the event have sold out. The event will be shown live on ITV, kick-off 19:45 UK.

Arsenal’s Leah Williamson will captain the Lionesses and Leah’s Arsenal teammate Rafaelle will captain Brazil. Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy was not included in the England Women squad for international week but has since been called up due to Millie Bright withdrawing due to injury.

Just 5 days after the Finalissima England welcome the Australian Commbank Matilda’s to Brentford in what should be another good test – unfortunately we will not see Gunners Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord lining up for the visitors, as they have been withdrawn due to both sustaining injuries, and will remain at Arsenal to continue their recovery.

Next up after the current internationals week will be the FIFA Women’s World Cup proper, taking place across July and August this summer.  Australia and New Zealand are hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

The last international break saw the Lionesses win the Arnold Clark Cup, whilst the Matildas won the Cup of Nations.

Other key Arsenal players who will miss participating in the World Cup, due to injury, are Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead, who both sustained significant ACL injuries in November and December last year.
