WOW! Welbeck stats suggest Arsenal get Giroud upgrade!

I can understand why Arsenal fans are less than thrilled about us signing Danny Welbeck. After the hope of getting Falcao and due to the last minute nature of the transfer, it feels like Arsene Wenger is settling for second best, but I have just been looking at Welbeck’s stats for last season and you will not believe what I found.

Remember that he only played 25 Premier League games for Man United last season, with quite a few of them as sub and that he was not in the centre forward position which he is likely to take for Arsenal. According to the comparison matrix on Squawka.com and going by a score per 90 minutes, Welbeck beats the Frenchman in most of the key areas.

His overall score (27.39 to 18.1), his attacking (24.1 to 22.33), his goals scored (0,55 to 0.47) and his shooting accuracy (53% to 43%) are all better. Giroud comes out better on assists and chances created but he was playing down the middle and Arsenal did have a much better season than United in general.

Welbeck is also faster so can offer different options and he is only 23-years old. So before you make up your minds that Welbeck is a second rate striker and that his transfer to Arsenal is a disaster, maybe we should give him a chance to show us what he can do down the middle with the likes of Ozil, Alexis and Walcott around him.
