According to Mirror Football, the controversial captaincy vote that has seen Arsenal boss Unai Emery thrown into the fire pit – was actually thought up by the club’s psychologist.
The Mirror report that David Priestley convinced Emery to take this approach in a bid to share the leadership duties within the squad.
The unusual decision certainly hasn’t worked out for the Gunners, Granit Xhaka’s credentials as captain were questioned way before the midfielder’s shocking outburst towards fans in last month’s draw against Crystal Palace.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken on the armband after the Swiss star was rightfully stripped of the duty.
The Mirror also add that a different member of staff leads the team huddle for every Arsenal game.
Whilst this revelation does forgive Emery for a seemingly poor method of deciding the Gunners’ captain, it could lead to some people questioning his control – or lack thereof on the club.

Of course Arsenal’s staff should have the chance to suggest new ideas that could benefit the team, but with such a sensitive issue – shouldn’t the decision rest on the manager’s head?
