38-goal Kenyan international wants Arsenal but signs for Swedish side

Arsenal have just signed two young Nigerian youth international players, so it is obvious that Arsene Wenger has got scouts watching African players at the moment. Now it seems the best young player in Kenya, is also desperate to be given a chance to prove himself at the Emirates and last year he sent a personal message to Arsene Wenger via a Youtube video.

Michael Olunga was only 21 but is already a full Kenyan international and had scored 38 goals for Gor Mahia in last season’s Kenya Premier League, and is obviously committed to playing in the biggest Leagues in Europe, but his dream is to play for Arsenal.

To further that ambition he signed a four-year deal yesterday with the Swedish giants Djurgardens after a month’s trial in which he impressed the club. Djurgarden’s sporting director Bosse Andersson said: “The development potential is huge so with the peace and quiet of our Djurgården environment he can develop into a striker able to play in the biggest leagues in Europe.

“That’s Michael’s own ambitions and he has the characteristics required for it.”

Olunga, whose nickname is The Engineer, has made no secret of the fact that he thinks this will just be a stepping stone to greater things, and I am sure if he can score just as many goals in the Allsvenskan then he will draw attention from our scouts, but first of all he has to start proving himself. He told the BBC: “In the beginning I have to get going, but once I get started I tend to get on a roll with my scoring,” he told the club’s website.

“So far I have only played friendlies but it feels like a good level.

“Everything is very well organized and the quality of the training camp has been very good. It feels like it’s a good springboard to the big European leagues.”

If, by any chance, he does to turn into a superstriker in Sweden, at least Arsenal know that they will have an advantage if the big clubs come calling, as proved by this video he made last year…
