Arsenal’s David Ospina has told the club that he wants to leave, and the board have told him he can go.
The Colombian shot-stopper has found himself playing as Petr Cech’s back-up over the past two seasons, and is fed up at his lack of action.
Ospina has featured in only six Premier League matches in the past two years, but did get the nod to feature in 11 Champions League games, but that is far from enough to keep the 28 year-old happy.
This sort of exclusion could also put his international place in limbo, and with the World Cup coming up at the end of next season, he will be keen to keep himself well in his manager’s thoughts.
Ospina has now told Arsenal that he wants to leave this summer, and is willing to go to Turkey where he has been linked in order to obtain his wishes.
David said; ‘I told my club that I want to go to a team where I’ll play regularly. They know my intention.
‘If the right offer comes, then I’ll happily come to Turkey. My agent is taking care of transfer business. In fact, I’m happy at Arsenal but I have to play regularly.
‘I told them exactly that. Arsenal’s board told me they will not be making things difficult for me if the right offer comes in. Let’s see what the future brings.’
Ospina appears more than likely to leave the club, which won’t pose a problem to our squad, with Wojciech Szczesny returning from his loan with Roma this summer, as well as having Emiliano Martinez already with our side, who has impressed in the absences of our main two goalkeepers.
There is talk of a possible move to sign a new number one this summer with Petr Cech having been questioned this term, but I don’t believe Petr will lose his place, although I would like Jordan Pickford to come and challenge him for a starting spot.
Did Ospina deserve more playing time this year? Surely he will have better options in Europe willing to guarantee him regular action?
