Agent plays down defender’s Arsenal move despite interest

Arsenal are believed to be keen on signing Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj this summer, but his agent played down such a move.

The impressive Albanian star is currently in France playing at Euro 2016, and helped his side to their first ever win at a European Championships yesterday, in their 1-0 win over Romania.

His side now stand a slim chance of getting through to the knock-out rounds, if two or more of the third-placed teams in groups fail to secure three points, or end up with three points and a goal difference worse than minus two.

His performances have opened the eyes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona supposedly, while Arsenal were already credited with an interest.

The Gunners are now claimed to have accepted the latest interest from Spain has raised his protracted transfer fee, and are still keen on striking a deal.

The 22 year-old’s agent however has played down such a move, claiming it would be a ‘side-ways step’ for his client, although Hysaj himself may not agree.

Mario Giuffredi said: “I consider Arsenal to be on the same level as Napoli, certainly not better.

“Napoli have become one of the most important clubs in Europe.”

I suppose in Italy they may rate their teams and clubs as more important than we do here, so I won’t abuse him too much for claiming that Napoli are on levels with us, when they only have two cup wins to boast since for their last 25 years, and only have four finishes in the top four since 2008…

I hope our interest in Hysaj does not stem from any worries over the future of Hector Bellerin, who is our main right-back at present.

Could we keep the two young international full-backs happy in the squad? Should we be worried about Bellerin’s future?
