Alexis and Ozil highlighted in ’embarrassing’ Arsenal performance

Alan Shearer has slammed yesterday’s painful defeat to Premier League leaders Chelsea, describing Arsenal’s display as ’embarrassing’.

The Gunners succumbed to a 3-1 loss to the Blues, with only a late equaliser denying the home side a clean sheet. The scoreline could easily have been much worse however, and the manner in which some of the goals were conceded were literally hurtful to watch.

Eden Hazard beat Francis Coquelin in his own half, before speeding through to the defence, where he ended up putting Koscielny on his bum, and slotted easily past Petr Cech and Shkodran Mustafi and into the net to put us 2-0 behind.

If that wasn’t bad enough, a failed Cech clearance went straight to Cesc Fabregas on the edge of the box, with a clear open goal to put the ball into to put us three behind. I couldn’t believe me eyes…

I was defending the goalkeeper on this week after he was targeted by Arsenal fans this week, but I certainly wont be protecting him today.

Shearer has named two other players who deserve to come under scrutiny however, with key stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil

“This is embarrassing,” Shearer said on Match of the Day.

“Sanchez and Ozil, Matic just goes straight through.

“No pressure on the ball whatsoever.

“One simple pass and Chelsea are on the attack again.

“It was an embarrassing performance from Arsenal.”

There is little to defend about yesterday’s display, and I thoroughly believe we can count ourselves lucky to have only conceded on three occasions.

Arsene Wenger needs to take a look at his tactics and formation, much like Antonio Conte did after we beat Chelsea back in September, which led to their amazing string of wins which propelled them to the top of the table, and now look assured champions this term.

Does the French manager have the tactical knowledge to find a new formation which could allow us to be more unpredictable? Is our predictable system and style of play exactly why we fair so terribly against the other big sides?
