Alexis issue highlights why Arsenal must replace Wenger

In some respects I have some sympathy for Arsene Wenger over the alleged training ground bust up with the Arsenal and Chile international star which ended up with the boss leaving the team’s best player on the bench for the crucial away game with Liverpool.

I can understand that Wenger had little choice but to exert his authority because a football club is not a democracy and any manager needs to be the boss. Unfortunately the Gunners lost the game and as we looked a lot better once the Chilean had come on for the second half this was a costly incident.

But I also have a lot of sympathy for the player and I can understand why he has been looking more and more frustrated as the season has worn on, because apart from him the Arsenal players have let us down once again and another year goes by without a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Is it any surprise that a player with the burning desire to win that Alexis clearly has is left frustrated after games like the limp and lacklustre loss to Watford? He must be wondering what is wrong with his teammates and I think that the blame for the attitude and lack of effort from must fall at the feet of our manager.

So while Alexis should not have done what he is reported to have done in training, does it just highlight the underlying problems that we have and reinforce the need for a new manager to take charge?
