Alexis to hit form after impressive Arsenal cup cameo?

Almost all of the plaudits from the Arsenal victory over Tottenham in the north London derby this week went to the player that scored both goals for the Gunners. And maybe the fact that Mathieu Flamini was rumoured to be close to leaving the club this summer as well as being known for his disruptive midfield play rather than for hitting the back of the net meant that all that talk was of the Frenchman coming back from the fringe.

But looking back on the game as a whole, there was a major turning point in the 67th minute. For the half hour os so before that point, either side of the halftime break and after Flamini had put Arsenal in the lead, we were being put under more and more pressure by the home team and were struggling to get anything much going in an attacking sense.

Arsene Wenger turned to our star of last season Alexis Sanchez and although the Chilean international did not manage to score his first goal of the season, he changed the game with his enthusiasm, direct running, pace, power and fancy footwork.

It is clear that Alexis has not been at his best so far but I think that the influence he had with his impressive cameo on Wednesday could be just the thing to get him going. He will surely go into the Leicester game in good spirits, but will that be enough to help him end his current goal drought and start to show why he took the Premier League by storm last year?
