Every day there are another four or five names thrown in the air as prospective successors to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, and as we have seen earlier today the Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac has been mooted as the new man, but there are still lots of other rumours around.
The Star confidently reports that the Gunners have reached an agreement “in principle” with Carlo Ancelotti, and the footy journalist Ian McGarry is also confident that the net is closing on on Enrique to replace Wenger at the Emirates.
He revealed: “I can say with some authority that there have been three meetings with Luis Enrique and his representatives in the past four months.
“And it’s my understanding that while there are other candidates, and no decision has been made, that’s the most attention Arsenal have paid to any one candidate in the time they’ve been looking for Arsene Wenger’s replacement.”
But there were other rumours saying that Enrique was demanding 20m to take over at the Emirates, which is over double what Arsene wenger was earning. I find that very unlikely as I have said before, but the Star report says that Ancelotti has only been offered 5m euros (4.4m GBP) to take on the role, which seems much more likely to me.
Another link today is with Jose Mourinho’s assistant coach Rui Faria who has worked with Jose for 15 years and helped him win numerous trophies over his career, and I would imagine that this sort of wage is about the best that a coach taking on the top job for the first time would be expecting to earn.
Ancelotti would never accept that amount with his fantastic record, so if that is all we are offering then perhaps the Buvac rumour is the most likely?
