Arsenal 3 Scotland 0 – Giroud makes it 7 in 7!

All the talk in the media is about how Arsenal are trying hard to buy a striker to oust Olivier Giroud from the Gunners starting line-up, while in the meantime the Frenchman is trying to prove that he will not be giving up his place without a fight.

Last night Les Bleus played their final warm up game against Scotland, and Olly scored their first two goals in the space of 35 minutes, before Laurent Koscielny added another to make it Arsenal 3 Scotland 0! Here is how the official Arsenal website decribed the game.

Olivier Giroud scored twice and Laurent Koscielny headed in his first international goal as Euro 2016 hosts France beat Scotland in Metz in their final friendly before the tournament starts on June 10. Giroud opened the scoring with a superb backheel, before adding his second 10 minutes before half-time. Koscielny made it three soon after, heading powerfully beyond David Marshall. Giroud was substituted just after the hour, with Koscielny playing the whole game.

Giroud was given some stick by the France supporters in last weeks game against Cameroon, in which he also scored, but having brought his recent record to 7 goals in 7 games I wonder whether he was given the same treatment last night.

It is hard to believe that this is the same striker that went three months without scoring for the Gunners, but we have always known that Olly blows hot and cold during the year. Right at this moment he is on fire, and if he carries on in this form then France deserve to be favourites to go all the way in the Euros….
