Arsenal agree £13.4M goalkeeper fee with Roma

Wojciech Szczesny is set to return to Roma this summer if he completes his medical tomorrow.

The Polish international goalkeeper is set to re-join the Italian giants on an initial loan deal, with Roma having the option to buy him for £13.4 Million come the end of the season.

Szczesny joined the Giallorossi 12 months ago on loan, and enjoyed an extended run in the first team, starting 34 of the clubs 38 Serie A fixtures.

Roma then signed Brazilian international goalkeeper Alisson from Internacional, and the Arsenal loanee did not appear likely to get another chance to extend his stay in Rome, but the Italian side clearly feel the need to keep him for the coming term.

It was previously reported that the Gunners would receive a £1 Million fee for the initial loan deal, which will keep Wojciech in Italy until the end of the coming season.

Everton are said to have made a last ditch attempt to bring the goalkeeper to Goodison Park this summer, but that deal looks to have fallen through.

David Ospina is now expected to stay in North-London and remain as back-up to first choice Petr Cech this season, who has proven to be one of the most consistent performers in England for a number of years now.

The 34 year-old has recently decided to concentrate on his club football, and will no longer make himself available for his country the Czech Republic.

As much as Sczcesny is not a part of our first team plans this term, at only 26 years-old, he could well have been a useful part of our team in the future, with Cech being the age he is.

The Polish international loves our club, and I believe with more experience he could take over the the former Chelsea star in a few years time.

Do you think we should not have included an agreed fee for Szczesny? Do you think he’d be good enough to take over when Cech starts to decline?
