Arsenal among the clubs chasing €78m prolific Serbian hit-man

It is being claimed in the media that Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt goal scoring phenomenon Luka Jovic. The Metro, citing Marca, claim that Chelsea, Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the high profile clubs that are keen on signing the 21 year old.

Apparently, the Bundesliga outfit have set a whopping €78 Million price tag on the youngster which strangely has seen Man City dropped out of the running.

It should also be noted that Jovic is on loan to Eintracht from Portuguese side Benfica but they have an option to make the move permanent, which they almost certainly will do and as soon as that happens may look to cash in for an immediate profit, if they are persuaded to sell of course.

So why the huge interest in the young lad?

He is scoring at will this season in one of Europe’s elite leagues that is why, he has scored 23 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions and in the Bundesliga scoring charts he is joint second on 16 goals, three behind Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea were viewed as the favourites because of their desperation to sign a top quality striker but their impending two year transfer ban means they are probably out of the running, which can only be good news for us.

The fee is huge for sure, but that does mean we are out of the running, Champions League football and player sales could easily see us have a transfer budget over £100m.

One worry is that Benfica was not desperate to hold onto him and he has just had the one positive season, it is a bit risky to splash out such a huge amount on a player that is not proven over a few seasons.
