Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his hopes of catching Chelsea this season, whilst admitting that even earning a top our finish is tough.
The Gunners have fallen to 16 points behind the league leaders Chelsea, albeit having played a match less, and more importantly, now trail Liverpool by five, with the Reds having played twice more than us.
Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on whether he expected to make the top four, but insists the challenge is not going to be easy, whilst keeping his hopes on closing on the Blues at the top of the table.
“It is not down to me to judge that I leave that to you,” Wenger said.
“We want to play in the Champions League next season we have a tough job with six, seven teams fighting for the places.
“It’s strange because we have games cancelled. You don’t play, you play FA Cup. You have no continuity.
“We are in a position where we cannot afford to lose points.
“West Brom is always a difficult game but for us an opportunity to come back close to Chelsea.
“We are in the semi-final of the FA Cup and have an opportunity to do that.
“Success is to take the maximum out of the potential of the team.”
He then seemed to add a swipe at the fans, who have been strongly critical of him and his side this term, saying: “Nothing is good enough anymore so you try to do the best you can.”
