West Ham chief David Gold has claimed that there is no pressure on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to leave the club, despite the recent fans revolt. The Gunners’ boss is out of contract this summer, and has declared that he will make a decision on his future ‘soon’. That was said three weeks ago however, and there appears to be no announcement set as of yet.
Our bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League competition has since taken a turn for the worst, with Crystal Palace piling misery on our side with a 3-0 defeat, and we now have a mountain to climb to make the top four.
Despite fans uproar this term, and the continuous calls for Arsene Wenger to step down, West Ham chief Gold doesn’t believe there is any pressure on him to call time on his reign.
“I don’t really think Arsene Wenger is under serious pressure for his job,” Gold said.
“The man has been there 20 years and everybody knows how he works and I think if he wants to stay that will be that.
“He will stay. The Arsenal fans are a bit like Manchester United’s – they believe they have a right to trophies. They expect to win everything so this is very difficult for them.
“I think Arsene Wenger will be OK. He will weather the storm and I don’t accept there is some sort of dressing room revolt going on.
“He has been there long enough to know how to sort that out.”
Is Arsene Wenger really just ignoring the fans protests? Was his recent claim that the fans wishes would be considered when signing a deal a lie?
