Arsenal can and should use Man Utd tactics on Liverpool

Even though a draw would not be a bad result for Arsenal against Liverpool at the Emirates stadium on Saturday, it would be so much better for us to take all three points and stretch the Premier League gap between us and our opponents to a massive nine points with just seven games to play.

The win would also keep up the pressure on Chelsea, Man City and Man United and that could still pay dividends. So how do the Gunners approach the game? With some caution and solidity to keep the chances of a damaging defeat to a minimum perhaps?

If Arsene Wenger does not mind taking a leaf out of Louis van Gaal’s book then we could do both. To be fair, the United boss adapted his own tactics for United’s surprise win at Anfield from the way Swansea had negated Brendan Rodgers’ tactics in the previous game, so why should we not do the same.

JUst as against United, Liverpool desperately need to win and so will try the high press and to dominate midfield with their 3-5-2 formation, but if Arsenal make sure we keep a high passing tempo and work hard for each other, not taking risks but attacking in numbers when there is a chance, then the final whistle could see us having all but disposed of the threat from Liverpool.

But will the Arsenal boss change his approach?
