Arsenal can only start to prepare for next season…

Why the Rest of Arsenal’s Season is All About Building for the Next! by AT

Arsenal fans will most certainly be breathing a sigh of relief after two consecutive wins over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. Following a very poor start to the campaign, it really does seem as though Arsene Wenger’s side are once again fighting for lower level honours. Let’s face it, the Gunners are already out of the title race and the current squad is simply not good enough to conquer Europe.

As usual, we find ourselves fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League and hopefully retaining the FA Cup. Now while those may be respectable achievements, there is so much more that we Arsenal fans expect from the team. But with that being said, there is quite a bit to fight for before the end of the campaign. In my opinion, the rest of this season will go into rebuilding the side and going into next season as genuine title-contenders and with a squad that can go head-to-head with Europe’s elite.

As tough as it may be, if Wenger manages to sign a world-class defensive midfielder and a world-class central defender in January and add more stability to the side, it will make for a really good foundation for the team to be much stronger next season. Considering the improvement of our finances, we can boldly expect more world-class players like Ozil and Sanchez to come to the Emirates. In a nutshell, Wenger needs to add defensive stability in the positions mentioned earlier, get the team working as a unit and spend wisely in the summer so we can fight for the title next season.

Whether we’d want to admit it or not, the truth is this season has passed us by. Even if the boys go on to finish in top four and retain the FA Cup, we can’t really bill it as a successful campaign, Arsenal need to be going for so much more than just that. Personally, I think the rest of this season is all about getting the team set for the next. Here’s hoping Arsene Wenger can keep the pieces together till the end of campaign.
