Arsenal close on striker transfer after Welbeck injury setback

There were a lot of unhappy Arsenal fans in the days following the closing of the summer transfer window, especially after it was then revealed that our England international and former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck would have to go under the knife to fix the knee injury that he had been struggling with since April.

It then looked as if Arsene Wenger had badly missed a trick and left the Arsenal squad dangerously short of firepower. His decision to not sign a single outfield player to add to the transfer of Petr Cech from Chelsea was looking even more short sighted when Arsenal lost first Theo Walcott and then Alexis Sanchez to injury. You could say that we have got away with it but then again we could have been in an even better position.

Maybe the manager himself has regretted his transfer decisions and now that we have heard that the latest injury update on Welbeck is yet another delay, it appears that he is not going to make the same mistake again. According to a Metro report we have stepped up our transfer pursuit of the Celta Vigo and Spain striker Nolito.

The news from Spain is that we are close to sealing the deal, beating the likes of Barcelona and other clubs that have been linked with him. With seven goals from just 10 games to add to his two La Liga player of the month awards this season, the release clause of less than £13 million appears to be a real bargain.

So is it the cut price transfer fee that has done it for the prof or has he realised that he made a mistake in the summer?
