Arsenal confirm former club captain as Freddie Ljungberg’s assistant

Per Mertesacker will be Freddie Ljungberg’s assistant Arsenal have confirmed.

Arsenal fans have been wondering who would be assisting Freddie Ljungberg as he takes over the club’s managerial position temporarily this week.

The Swede has been the club’s assistant manager under Unai Emery before the former PSG boss was fired on Friday.

Arsenal has now confirmed that they will have two of the club’s former stars in the dugout for their game against Norwich as Per Mertesacker will be assisting Ljungberg.

Mertesacker has been managing the club’s under18 since he retired as a player.

The German won three FA Cups with Arsenal over seven years and also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.

“Per Mertesacker will be supporting interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg in the short-term,” the club revealed via their official Twitter account.

“Per will be in the dugout at Carrow Road tomorrow.”

Mertesacker has been touted to become Arsenal’s manager in a few years and he may even become the club’s permanent assistant manager should Ljugberg retain the position or Mikel Arteta gets the permanent job.

Arsenal fans are keen to see their team play at Carrow Road as they all have hopes that Emery was the problem and things will get better now that he has been fired.
