Arsenal defender hoping to land move to London rivals

Mathieu Debuchy is hoping to leave Arsenal this month, with his preference to stay in London.

The right-back joined the Gunners from Newcastle in the summer of 2014, and was enjoying a first-team role until picking up an injury in September, which allowed Hector Bellerin to star in his place.

The Spaniard has come on leaps and bounds since earning a regular starting role, even picking up the award for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for last season.

Debuchy has now conceded that he will not be able to overthrow his younger counter-part in Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans, and is keen on the exit door this window.

Reports in France are claiming that he is hoping to secure a stay in England, preferably in London. Roma were previously believed to be strongly interested in signing the former Newcastle defender, but they are now looking elsewhere, but Galatasaray are linked with an interest also.

Surely Chelsea and Tottenham will not be coming calling for the full-back, but West Ham or Crystal Palace could offer him the chance to stay in London. The Hammers had Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson on loan last term, before he was ruled out for the term with injury, and could well be in the market for another option in defence.

Calum Chambers is able to cover at right-back should Debuchy manage to forge himself a transfer, although Wenger may look to bring in a replacement before the window closes.

Is Chambers good enough cover should we lose Bellerin to injury or suspension? Did Should we keep Debuchy as a more defensive option to Bellerin for certain match-ups?
