Arsenal DID try to buy Aubameyang!

Arsenal fans were desperate for Arsene Wenger to spend some money on a new striker for the team this summer, because season after season has proved that we aren’t quite sufficient in the front line. If the media is believed to be true, Arsenal had various transfer targets in their search for striker this summer, with the likes of Morata, Lacazette and Vardy all getting plenty of attention from the media.

According to the latest reports from El Confidencial, which have since been reported in England, Arsenal supposedly held interest in Borrusia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer. I remember the links to the Dortmund striker and they persisted for quite a while, however of course nothing ever came from it. The media today however ‘reveal’ that Arsenal supposedly had a £51.8 million offer rejected! That’s Crazy money for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger to be spending! But the German side replied saying that they wanted a staggering £35 million more, which unsurprisingly ended Arsenal’s interest!

Of course Dortmund have every right to demand that crazy amount of money given the player’s quality, as well as the way that transfer fees are thrown around in the current transfer market. I’m not surprised Arsenal didn’t follow up with any subsequent interest, because the £50m+ offer alone would have smashed our transfer record, let alone a fee closer to £85 million.

Even though Lucas Perez may not quite be a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, I think Arsenal and Arsene Wenger managed to pull off a fairly decent deal for the Spanish striker! Hopefully he gets some more minutes and gets a chance to prove his worth, otherwise before you know it, we’ll be wondering what could have been with Aubameyang!
