Arsenal flop responds to questions about his future at the Emirates

Shkodran Mustafi admits he is open to a move away from the Emirates.

Arsenal have had the pleasure of signing some world-class players in the past, but they have also been guilty of making signings that have been so bad people wonder if they were ever truly scouted before they were signed.

One player who would probably always divide opinion among both Arsenal and football fans has to be Shkodran Mustafi.

The defender joined the Gunners after what was a considerably successful spell at Valencia, but he has never really lived up to the hype and he was even voted one of the worst defenders in a recent poll.

Mustafi was a member of the starting XI under Arsene Wenger, but he has been relegated to the bench this season, only being used in the Carabao Cup and Europa League.

When asked about his future at today’s pre-match press conference, the 27-year-old claimed he is open to a move away should the perfect opportunity present itself.

“I’m a player for Arsenal. I’ve got a contract for one-and-a-half more years

“If there’s something that suits me and I want to make a next step I’m open to think about it. It’s a situation where we have to put our own interests in the background.

“I can say that in the dressing room everyone is fully focused on giving everything to get out of this. Everyone is really looking to play football and win games with Arsenal.”

It is probably best that Mustafi leaves but I will say this about him, he never dropped his head, he trained hard, accepted he was no longer part of the first team and when given the chance, has played well.

He may not have been the best Arsenal defender we have seen but he certainly has a great attitude.
