Arsenal forward to continue rehab in home-country

Arsenal have come to an agreement with Deportivo La Coruna which will allow Lucas Perez to continue his rehabilitation from injury in Spain.

Lucas joined the club this summer from Depor in a £17 Million deal, and had just started beginning to impress before falling foul of injury.

The forward has been out since picking up an ankle injury against Reading in the EFL Cup, and had initially been expected to miss between six and eight weeks.

Perez has now informed the Arsenal fans that he is happy to have been allowed to continue his recovery with his former side on Twitter.

The status roughly translates to: ‘Happy that Arsenal and Deportivo have accepted me to come and recover in Coruna.’

The Spanish star also gave us a brief update seeming to remain positive about his recuperation time, telling Spanish Radio Cope: “I have been 15 days out and they told me it would be between six and eight weeks. The ankle is reacting well.”

It’s rather unlucky that Lucas picked up his injury just as he was beginning to settle within our squad, and was having a positive impact for our side. This sort of thing never happens on its own however, and we should hardly be surprised that Alexis Sanchez has followed the forward onto the sidelines.

The Chilean is also in his home-country currently, having picked up his injury whilst on international duty, but he is not currently expected to stay in South America as he looks to try to become readily available to return.

Sanchez has been vitally important to our season thus far, but we have a fully fit Olivier Giroud who will have to step back into the first-team fold, and we should be fine in the mean time.

Does Lucas returning to Spain worry you that recovery has not been going 100% to plan? Could he now struggle to have an impact on our season, with both Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez already more established players to challenge Giroud up front?
