Arsenal get boost in Marco Reus chase and Podolski still wants out

There is a never-ending supply of Arsenal transfer rumours linking the Gunners with Borussia Dortmund’s Marcus Reus, despite the amount of quality midfielders already in Arsene Wenger’s squad. Reus has a contract with Dortmund until 2017, but a release clause of just 25 million euros means that there will be interest from most top Premier League clubs.

Wenger is reportedly a long term admirer of the 25 year-old and todays news that Chelsea will definitely not be standing in the way of any potential bid for the German international wll be welcomed by Arsenal fans. Jose Mourinho made it clear esterday when he said: “We don’t want Marco Reus, that market is closed to us and the player belongs to Borussia Dortmund,”

“He’s a top player, but we have a lot of top players in his position and I have a fantastic relationship with their coach, so there is nothing in that at all.”

One definite attraction of Arsenal buying Reus is that it may be a lot easier to get Jurgen Klopp to follow him to the Emirates. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part but you never know….

One other reason I like this rumour is that here could well be a free space in the Arsenal squad shortly as Lukas Podolski has yet again demanded talks with Wenger about his future at the club.

“I like London, I like the club, but I don’t like the situation,” Podolski told German magazine Kicker. “I’m not some clown who can sit out his contract in the stands.”

This comes after his statement last week with the German national side. “The fun of the game is being taken out of me at Arsenal,” he said. “I’m a true-blood footballer and want to play.

“Now, I have even noticed that I’m missing something if I’m not playing regularly.”

Wenger obviously doesn’t like Lukas so I don’t see why Le Prof should stand in his way if he wants out, but perhaps the Arsenal boss could use one unhappy German to help entice Dortmund to let Reus come to the Emrates?
